No, you should always do weights and then cardio. But warm up prior to doing weights.
The point is, no matter how fucked your arms are from lifting, you can STILL do cardio. But if your body is fucked from cardio, most times, you can't lift weights. |

depends what your goals are
cardio to lose weight is best done in the AM prior of you eating much carbs at all http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/ar...s-fat-loss.htm you will be shocked at how much fat you will burn doing this now to build muscle is thats your goal with weight training you need to eat a good pre meal and post mean and def needs to include carbs your best bet is dedicate days or do day and night split and read the above link

Always do weights first so that you get the max out of your cardio. Lifting first depletes your available energy stores so that when you go rip it up on the treadmill or whatever your body is forced to dig deep for it's fuel (fat stores)

weights first, then cardio. like what everyone else said, weights first depletes your stored energy (carbs, etc) then when you do cardio, you are burning stored fat more easily.

My trainer told me to do cardio then weights, but after reading the posts here, it seems to make more sense to do weights than cardio.

True cardio/aerobic exercise, as opposed to anaerobic (exercising beyond the level for which you have enough available oxygen without your heart needing to pump excessively fast) is not simply a matter of avoiding the sudden short bursts of stress associated with weights for example. The whole exercise cycle should be lower key. If you take aerobic exercise to a level which is no longer aerobic, there may be other benefits, but from the heart-health point of view, to a large extent you are back in weight lifting territory. |

I personally do an hour cardio in the morning, then in the afternoon an hour of weight training followed immediately by 2 hours of fight training.

these vague questions are dumb and the answers irrelevant. no one can tell you anything without first knowing your goals, your training routine, intensity and your diet. this is always going to be true of any exercise related question. anyone answering these questions without knowing the details is doing you a disservice and you taking simplistic advice based on absolutely nothing is doing yourself a disservice.
if your goal is to get bigger and gain muscle mass... you might find that you shouldn't be doing any cardio at all for several reason. if your goal is to lose fat and you dont care about muscle catabolism then it matters less. there is no good answer. your body is a machine. a machine that requires good fuel at all times of the day for proper function, maintenence and repair as well plenty of fluids and rest. you can do a lot of things wrong that affect your ability to achieve your goals. there is no simple answer and if you are going to focus your time on shortcuts and trying to break everything down into simple rules like "good" / "bad" without understanding... then you most likely won't achieve your goals nn matter what anyone says because you will still be missing many pieces of the puzzle. |

My trainer, a Central American and South American body building champion, also says Cardio first. Have to question, what kind of shape are YOU in?

They say cardio should not be done prior to lifting because it will wear you out, and will decrease the amount of weight you can put up. Which usually means less gains because you can't push yourself as much.
As for cardio after lifting, they say it is bad because right after working out your muscles want to be fed so they can start rebuilding. Doing cardio will hinder this process which could potentially inhibit your muscle growth, thus producing less gains. Personally, I would try to keep cardio sessions at least 12 hours between lifting sessions, with lots of carbs and protein in between. But I think you should do what is comfortable for you, and see how it works. If you are finding that you gaining as you hope, maybe try changing it up and see what works for you. |

i didn't read the entire thread but I'm told that you should do the cardio after you workout. you should always warm up first but the concept is that if you burn calories during the weight training then you'll burn more fat during the cardio
I know there are a lot of guys here that know their training so I'll go back and read and watch this thread |

Well what kind of cardio ? Gerilja cardio : 20 sec run .10 sec rest then the same 8 times , its hard but will burn your fat like crasy .
Or normal cardio running ? to boring and a waste of time . Do Gerilja cardio and thank me in 1-2 mnths time . Well your ? Do weights on monday ,cardio on thuesday ,then weight etc until friday ... And its all about eating ...... You can do cardio as a warm up 15 min before weight training yes , but you will never find any serious training expert who says , run 1 hour after your weight training or before ,split it up and do it ..... I do Gerilja cardio 2 times a week , takes 4 min to do 1 , and i can eat whatever i want all year long , besides i do weight 3 times a week . + its burn your fat hour`s after 1 session , its free and super . So if you wannna get in shape do this and eat propely , but thats another story ![]() GL |

Actually pardon me. The best way, is do them in seperate sessions and not back to back.
So I get up in the morning, have a powerbar and read my emails, then do an hour of cardio. Immediately after I have a big carb/protein combination shake. The I work for about 3 hours, before hitting the gym for an hour's weights followed by training. The idea being that doing the cardio in the morning gets the metabolism pumped and running for the day. The body has plenty of time to recover the carbs and more importantly water spent during cardio. Between weights and fighting I eat fresh fruits to bring the blood sugar back up. I probably eat betwen 3000-4000 calories a day but when I first started and had to lose fat, I ate a strict diet of less than 2500 calories. Always as little fat as possible.

If you want to build / strengthen muscles you should lift weights first. Doing cardio later will keep you from getting as sore & you get more fat burning from it. Or you can cardio on a different day.
If you cardio beforehand you won't get as good a weight workout so this is only better if you are trying to tone not strengthen & build. But I wouldn't really say it is better. |
