They say cardio should not be done prior to lifting because it will wear you out, and will decrease the amount of weight you can put up. Which usually means less gains because you can't push yourself as much.

As for cardio after lifting, they say it is bad because right after working out your muscles want to be fed so they can start rebuilding. Doing cardio will hinder this process which could potentially inhibit your muscle growth, thus producing less gains.

Personally, I would try to keep cardio sessions at least 12 hours between lifting sessions, with lots of carbs and protein in between.

But I think you should do what is comfortable for you, and see how it works. If you are finding that you gaining as you hope, maybe try changing it up and see what works for you.
