Creatine?

I dont know if most of you guys know, but I am a tiny guy... I am 5'6 and weigh 130lbs

I recently started working out to gain some mass, not become a bodybuilder, but to have a nice body, become "cut"

The guy who works at the fitness shop next door told me that I need protein and creatine.

What do you guys think of creatine? is it unhealthy in any way? fucks you up at all?

he reffered me to a bottle called "Purple K" creatine.

I appreciate any input! thanx

creatine is great for mass and helps with strength, but some of your mass will be waterweight.....

GNC makes a GREAT tasting fruitpunch powder - creadrive

Creatine is good stuff, but if you use it don't use it more then 6 weeks in a row. Protein and weight gainers are probably better for you if you need to gain mass

Creatine is safe...at least no study has shown otherwise.

it comes down to weather you want to look puffy and watered up. sure you will almost instantly see a size difference in your muscles, but most of that is water in your muscle cells.

Creatine is great for recovery and will help you put on a little size, but most of the size you put on will be water and will be lost right after you stop use.

Cell-Tech will put 15lbs on you in 2 weeks...but I'm not quite sure how much you will retain. Cell-Tech is also over priced. There are good alternatives out there though with a similar sugar content and such.

good luck

creatine naturally is found in beef, so eating lots of steak is just as good and more natural

I was using creatine for about a year, loved it... You gain the mass quick which is what I wanted, just have to make sure you drink shitloads of water (I usually drink 3-4L in a day, so no problem).

The only thing is, once you stop taking it you shrink

You need 5 grams of creatine in order for it to be effective. So if you want to eat 3lbs of steak in one sitting after the gym then thats your business

Use it 1 month, then take a month break.

Keep taking the protien though. Best way to explain protien is "the only thing your muscles eat", and its true, so eat a lot of it

Never buy anything from GNC, go to a real supplement store that has real weightlifters working there, and they can help you out with both your questions.

Creatine works good, but not the old stuff, you need to get the newer creatine: Creatine Ethyl Ester HCL. I use some called XC4 by German Technologies, works great.

And you should always drink protein after you workout, will help you tremendously. There are lots of good mixes out there I use Max Gourmet Protein, by MM Nutrition, mixes so easily in water (just shake it up), and it actually takes good.

whatever you do, take the creatine with ALOT of water
and drink it instantly after you mixed it with with water (or whatever)

cell-tech is indeed overpriced, and not pure creatine

you sure 130lbs? sounds a little high.. you're a small guy

Go to costco and buy the whey protein.. one large shake is like 2200 calories so just drink half of one and you will gain weight. About 3-4 pounds a week. Creatine and other stuff works good, but its a pain in the ass to remember to take. The shake stuff I am talking about has creatine mixed in. Obviously I quit taking it all, but plan to start again cause my ass is getting skinny.

bdjuf take advice from me. 6'1"-6'2" 190lbs 7%-8& body fat

the typical whey protein drink will not supply you with 2200 calories. You're talking about weight gainers.

Forget about creatine. Your first concern should be working out. If you're not going to dedicate 5 days a week to the gym then forget about it. After you get the working out thing figured out then get yourself some protein. take 1 gram of protein for every 1lb of your body weight. Maintain a well balanced 2,000 calorie diet and in no time you'll start to see a difference.

Never take advice from someone who says "Take advice from me". Usually means they think they are always right and don't actually take the time to learn all the facts.

There is no such thing as "Newer creatine"...there are only products with fancy labels claiming to be "new" creatine. The only two things you need in your bottle of creatine if your not going pure is....Argenine or a sugar product. Don't be fooled by "german technologies" or fancy scientific names

Yeah thats right on! Eating is everything, and drinking enough of the right fluids as well.

Creatine does a number on some peoples stomachs, I had to stop taking it becuase it made me sick as a bitch everytime I would try to down it.

All of this advice sounds good.. However, be careful with the protein intake. My friend went a little too heavy on it and got the gout. He couldn't walk for a week and in turn, killed his workout regimine.

there is no magic supplement if your diet and training are not in order. I would start there first and forget about everything else. if you have poor training habits and an inadequate diet, nothing can help you grow.

as others are saying..

eat
train
eat
sleep
eat
train etc.

diet and training is 90% of the equation.

"real" bodybuilders that are shooting up 400-1000mg+ of deca a week, 500-1000mg+ of test a week and 4-8 I.U.s of HGH a day would certainly have no use for creatine since all of the above cause massive water retention and achieve the same thing, making creatine pointless. Almost all bulking steroids do. a lot of "real bodybuilders" take creatine as they cycle off and no matter what you might think.. creatine helps quite a bit with strength gains.

Just so you know, I have been lifting regularly for 15 years now. 5' 11" 215lb @7% bodyfat.

I've seen the fads come and go. I will say, take CEE (creatine ethyl ester). Muscletech CEE is my favorite but a product called Green Bulge might be good for you. CEE is better than regular Creatine since you have to take less and it doesn't dehydrate you as much. Creatine takes a lot of water to work but for some reason the CEE doesn't give you the chapped lip problem when you forget to drink the last couple of glasses of water. You don't have to cycle off either. Take it as long as you want.

For protein nothing beats Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard. Strawberry is my favorite. Best price per serving and taste of any Whey. Isopure is also my secondary protein that I drink 45 minutes before and after EVERY workout. It's a high quality fast acting whey so it comes in handy before and after. A good casein protein is good right before bed too or you can jsut pick up Muscle Milk pre made shakes for the pre bedtime shake.

I would also suggest a product called Deisel Test. Don't let the name fool you, it's all natural. ZMA should also be pretty good for you.

There's other even more powerful supplements out there but start out with the good protein/creatine/herbal combo. Those other things that are out there do some real nasty potentially irreversable things to you especially if you haven't mastered the basics. Don't let anyone tell you different. Stay away.

Need anymore info just hit me up. Icee kew 152-970-595

Im a big advocate of creatine.

If it works for you, and results vary quite a bit, you will gain muscle mass, explosive strength and have quicker recovery times. All that from "water in your muscle cells." Yes, when you come off of it you will gradually lose those quick gains BUT the whole point is you are working out more often and with more weight the whole time you are on it. Those gains don't dissapear overnight.

Do some research then try it.

never buy from GNC, its overpriced even after the membercard discount. shop around.

ultimate nutrition is the creatine i used for years. just chuck it in some grape juice or something.

you'll gain 5 pounds after the loadng phase, you can either do the 20g a day load or just not load(a month for the results). two ways to the same results.

if you wanna gain weight and you're small like me you'll need to eat 20-30g of protein at a min every 3 hours, max 4. metabolism will eat away gains if you go without a constant stream of protein. thats where protein shakes come in, but normally you want to eat higher quality protein from food sources and use the shakes as supplements to that.

if you truely wanna gain mass, don't worry about gaining a small gut, you can always cut later once you reach a higher weight.

When I was training for fight professionally, I worked out 6 hours every day and had a nutritionist analyze my diet. I was burning over 5,000 calories per day. I couldn't eat enough food. I would eat even in between rounds on the heavy bag. Only after taking creatine could I gain any weight, and even then it was just 6 lbs.

The only negative things I've heard are it gives some people headaches and can be rough on the stomach. Just make sure you drink lots of water.

why not just work out and get toned and be happy with what you got. no need to put all this chemical bullshit in your system just for some muscles.

Cell-Tech will put 15lbs on you in 2 weeks...but I'm not quite sure how much you will retain. Cell-Tech is also over priced. There are good alternatives out there though with a similar sugar content and such.

good luck

Actually a good friend did an extensive study on Creatine while at LSU and would beg to differ with your statement. Many doctors and reasearchers were involved in the study which concluded that creatine isn't all equal and it can have negative effects.

Creatine is a compound created naturally by the body. By overloading on it you can actually shut down the body's ability to produce it naturally.

What do you guys think about excess of proteins? I have heard the could be really bad in the long term for your kidneys and that you can get the gout.

I'm starting to workout again after 5 years not doing it, i'm recovering fast my muscle mass and can lift more and more on each week. My problem is that i'm the kind of guy who gets massive soon, but that has problems getting cut. In the past i used to drink 90% protein mixed with water and that helped to get cut without loosing weight because being on diet/doing cardio, so i'm thinking on buying it again as i can't eat tons of steaks, milk and eggs if i want to get cut, but i'm worried about the secondary effects of it.

yeah, that's true. I think it would be better just to eat beef.

Sounds good to me, I would go back to the gym and start pulling my muscles once again.
