Just been getting back into excercising the last couple of months.. Slowly shedding a few extra pounds. All in all, i'm not terribly unfit, but i'm not about to go to the olympics either.

Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! I used to have a job that had me on my feet 12 hours a day, Now I sit on my ass for 12 hours a day and don't get ANY exercise. The good news is I quit smoking, but I gotta get some exercise, just to relieve stress if for nothing else

I'v been sitting on my ass coding for almost 3 years, so I had to join the gym. Been going every day for 1 month now, it's damn good and I can see the results already.

Usual workout is

- 20 minutes walking (speed 8.5 which is almost a jog)
- 30 minutes cycling
- Pullups (12 x 3 sets)
- Pull downs (12 x 3 sets)
- some other arm weights.

Normal workout is 1 hour. It's all good!!

Creatine isn't really good for you!!

It builds up a high level of ammino acids which can cause a higher risk of injury when exercising!!

thats bull. so you're gonna tell me someone who eats a lot of meat or fish who will get essentially the same amino acids are more prone to injury? protein and amino acids are the most important items in your diet when gaining muscle.

Amino acids are essentially the "building blocks" of protein. I think he meant lactic acid, which builds up within the muscle tissue during prolonged exertion, which causes you to experience that burning feeling at the point of failure. I imagine an over-abundance of lactic acid could in some cases cause injury, I'd have to research it though. I'm really not sure.

creatine stops lactic acid from building up so quick. you can go a bit longer, not a whole lot longer but a just a bit.

2 yrs. now 5 days a week. 4 day routine.

1. Chest (3 to 4 Weight Exercises + 1 Machine) / Calves / Abs
2. Bis n' Tris (3 to 4 weight exercises for each + 1 machine) + Squats and leg presses
3. Shoulders (4 weight exercises) + Traps / Abs
4. Back (3 weight exercises + 2 machine exercises) + Legs + Deadlifts

of course every few months I switch up the routine.

this is where i want to be (muscular wise)... thats my goal

anyone think its "too" much or not enough, etc... ??

Ahhh, it's all coming back to me now! Yes, I see where Ross was sort of correct then. Since the lactic acid buildup in your muscles is the body's natural way of preventing injury due to overstrain, creatine users could be doing more long-term damage than good. Could be, that is. Ross really should post some documentation to back up what he's saying.

I can see where moderate use could benefit a bodybuilder, enabling him to push past the point of failure. It would be good for those guys that are "stuck" and not seeing good gains.

CDSmith... i don't really plan on competing, but lifting all this time has made me addicted. i've made good gains through these 2 years and now i only want more n' more but I guess early on (like me, im 19) none of the pro body builders ever really thought they'd be competing. they keep up with it and try their hardest (along w/ a few steroids here n' there) and think to themselves, damn, i can compete!

most bodybuilders are on roids. the drugs allow them to workout 3-4 times as long with heavier weights. they usually don't get injured.

what happens is people take creatine and get injured then think its because of the creatine. i don't know anyone on creatine thats had an injury from working out. mainly football injuries.

if the lactic acid doesn't build up then your body should be able to handle it because thats the bodies way of telling you to stop. biggest things i found with creatine was increased water retention, muscles felt pumped more after a set and recovery was a bit better.

ephedrine can make you handle a lot more reps then creatine along with more weight. if you've been working out for a while i don't see how it can be a problem if your body can handle the increase.

I do web cams shows all day and run after my three kids lol
It's keeps me in good shape

I was 170 lbs for my last pregnancy! I'm normally 116lbs (it was a bit hard to deal with). I breastfeed her for a yr and I lost it all. Now I'm at 100lbs ,so I'm happy here

-Lifting between 30-50 lbs (my kids) is a good workout for my arms ;)
-Running after them all day is good for my legs.
-And for my tummy lol...Kelly drives a standard and thats enough workout fo rmy stomach lol ;)

yeah, I don't understand that comment...

'gonna start taking whey'

you should always follow up a workout with a protein shake to help build your muscles... I thought that was common knowledge in the world of fitness.

i work out about 3 or 4 times a week. i'm not trying to look like a huge bodybuilder. i just like to stay in shape and i enjoy going the the gym. it give you a lot more energy and makes you feel good about yourself anyways. i dont take any supplements except for protein and multivitimins. creatine is not only bad in the ways cdsmit described, but it also filters through either your kidney or liver... so when you take creatine it puts that much more of a strain on it. after creatine has been around for a long time they will probably start realizing the damage it causes.

i'm a girl. last year i went to the gym a lot. this year i may have worked out once at the gym. i figure walking to and from work and having sex counts as exercise. although i just changed jobs so i don't walk to work anymore. i guess i'm not fit, but there's not enough fat on me for me to look fat. 5ft 2, 100 pounds?

I have to agree with Dr. Guile on this one...

By looking at this thread you would think that webmasters are some buff muthafuckas. In reality (at least, from the ones I have met at shows and the such) we are a good sampling from each catagory - fit, average, and "good god man (or woman), get outta that chair once in a while"

I used to be in the "good god" catagory when I started in the industry..... now I am average (i walk/rollerblade/ice skate occ. and work out twice a week)

By January I am hoping to be in the fit/smokin hottie catagory....

Hey! Miracles can happen! hahahahaha

Once it gets here I'll be on my bike daily, probably hitting 60k a day uphill, downhill, etc. Looking for a gym in my area and I have the biggest swimming pool in the world right outside my back door, doing laps across English Bay! I've managed to lose 15 pounds of flab in the past month just by giving up on eating CRAP food. Amazing what not mixing carbs and protein can do for you! ASAP I'll be back on protein & creatine supplements. Designer Protein & CreX-12 are what I use, what about you guys?

my exercise consists of sex (not enough lately but getting better) and walking to/from the bus. i might start biking around again, dunno. i'm in pretty ok shape - i've finally gained enough weight to be "normal" and i've settled in at 150-160lbs (5'7").

i'm happy enough with my body. i could stand to lose a bit around the belly and get some more muscle, but all in due time.

the thing that keeps me from dedicating blocks of time to it on a regular basis is i just don't have the time for it. i would need to get up around 6AM to do it in the morning (not gonna happen) and after work i have about an hour+ commute.

i used to work out with a co-worker every other day, but it's so hard to always wake up at 6AM to do it.. heh.

Where are you getting your "facts" from? Creatine has been around since the early 60's man! There are few muscle building suplements that have been researched and tested more than creatine has! This kind of rhetoric is the same kind of misinformation that makes people think smoking a joint is the same as smoking a half-pack of cigarettes. Of course if you abuse creatine it's going to cause damage to your body, the same as drinking too much alcohol, or even over-exercising!

If you've ever even so much as had a beer, don't presume to tell me about how creatine is going to hurt my liver. Creatine WORKS. Period. Taking a supplement like grapeseed extract will help scrub out your liver and repair any damage done by over-drinking or over-use of creatine. Please enlighten me and show me exactly where you got this information from. And don't tell me CDSmith, I want to see names, research and clinical studies, not just the word of one person. Hey, did you know eating Pop-Rocks with Coke will make your stomach explode? Some guy on TV said it so it must be true! I can quote about 30 years of research and my own experience, how about you?

take too much creatine at once and you get the shits. body just gets rid of it. all that nice white powder right into the can.

i've seen studies that said once creatine is in your body, it will stay for a couple months if you stop taking it. if you keep taking creatine, you just piss it out because your body doesn't want anymore. so i just use it 2 months on 2 off.
