"I bought it. Don't like it. It makes doorway pages. I thought it was something different. I asked politely for the Webmaster to return my money to my account. He got shitty and refused to do it. He has a disclaimer on his page, which I really think, he put up after I asked for my money back. I did not even test it for speed and efficiency, as I already have software that will make doorway pages. The templates and keywords have to be heavily modified to be worth anything as doorway pages.

He told me that the script is really worth thousands instead of $89.95. It was purchased through PayPal so even though I filed a complaint, because it is PayPal, I don't expect to get my money back.

I won't knock the script (as I did not test it) so if one wants to put in the time, it may make doorway pages, efficiently. You have to download and install Perl."



The way I read these E-mail exchanges is: You (Dave Lewis) have given me permission to do with the script as I see fit, so I assume that you will not have a problem with me providing the script to whom ever E-mails me and asks for a copy of the script.

Am I correct in this assumption?

It was the AM when I purchased the script and at that point I had been awake and working at the computer for close to 24 hours. To me (at the time) the explanation of what the script does was not completely clear. I thought that it may make actual pages of links (like a link site) with alot of pages of links. His site still does not clearly identify the script for what it actually does. I did not see any disclaimer at the time of the purchase.

I'm sorry but you did not ask "politely," you threatened to make a complaint with paypal. In my opinion this was not a good way to start off the process.

I have been selling at eBay using systems like paypal and Billpoint for a number of years now and this would have set me off as well...even though I would probably have still returned your money...that's just the way I run my business.

However with that in mind we are speaking of a different kind of business, this person is selling software. I dare you to go to Best Buy buy any software package and return it telling them it wasn't what you expected.

You will not be able to return it because 99.9% of stores return policies are that once the package is opened you can only return it for the same product if the original is found to be defective.

This keeps people from being able to purchase what they wish, burn a copy of it and then getting their money back essentially stealing it.

How is this software owner supposed to know that you aren't using his product after he returns the money? He doesn't.

#1 I agree with..as I stated I would have returned your money because that's just the way I handle business.

I would rather have someone discussing that on the message boards than what we are discussing here today.

#2 you say "thirty-forty items." Items is a lot different than software.

I doubt it very seriously you were able to return 30-40 packages of OPENED software to any store for a return...and if you have you say over your "lifetime," I'm sure a lot of those stores have changed their policies to only allow exchanges of the exact same product.

Examples of return policies for software, cds, videotapes etc:

Wal-Mart:
CDs, DVDs, audiotapes, videotapes, video games and computer software must be returned UNOPENED within 45 days of receipt.

CompUSA:
Opened software, DVD movies, pre-recorded videos and game cartridges may ONLY be exchanged for the exact same item and may NOT be returned for refund. These items can be exchanged in-store only.

Best Buy:
Exceptions
Computer Software
Video Games
Prerecorded Videos
DVD Software
Music
In order to receive credit for these items, they must be UNOPENED. If the original is defective, you may exchange these items for the SAME TITLE.

This is just a standard policy across the board when dealing with software, but once again not necessarily how I would have handled it if I were the business owner.

I did return a open box of fifty floppies to Walmart. After trying about a half dozen floppies and finding them to be corrupt, I returned them. Walmart wanted to do an exchange for another box of floppies of the same brand, but I declined, so my money was returned.

i've talked to visa about this. verisign has a no refund policy and i couldn't chargeback even when their system was fucked and i couldn't get access to domains i just renewed a couple weeks earlier.
