BUT the point of our prison system is rehabilitation. i you sentence someone to 10 years for child molestation, and they get out, acording to the law, they are "reformed".

once again, kill them, put them in jail for life, castrate them, but if they get out of jail they have deemed rehabilitated by the state, and should not need to undergo the kind of embarrasment that they do.

i make this argument, because if they can do this with these types of crimes, what is to stop them from doing it with drunk driving, for example?

you fuckup, and get caught driving drunk, you goto jail, pay your fines, and then you want to move into a nice house and start your life again. but you have to go door to door in your neighborhood, and get all your neighbors to sign a sheet saying that it is ok if you live there, and your picture is plastered up on a website for all to see.


now it COULD be argued that this is a matter of public record, and it is. however, the format the information is presented in is not satisfactory.

A. I guess you need check why Megan's Law passed in the first place. It is needed for the greater good.

B. Drunk drivers should be shot. While I doubt this will happen any time soon, they should not be allowed to drive for quite some time after each DUI (may I suggest 5 years). Sometimes it's like walking with a machine gun around the city.

sometimes the idea of "greater good" is manipulated to pass laws that should not be. it's a hard thing to take a stand on though, because honestly child molesters and rapists are shit and should be slaughtered. The thing is that a VAST majority..I'd feel safe saying 99%..of sexual predators reoffend. Damn right I want to know if a predator lives next door before my kids go play in the backyard.

Jessica Lunsford was snatched from her bed less than ten miles from where I live..my 11yo son STILL won't sleep in his bedroom because he is afraid someone will come in and get him.

I can't argue with the never let them out idea...

But I do think that having their pics available does help-even ONE child spared from abuse makes it worthwhile, IMO.

I look at the offender's site with my son every few weeks, and he has pointed two out to me in public before, so I know that it is sinking in...and on the off chance that one approached him, my son wouldn't stick around long enough to even hear what he had to say.

...but you really can't argue that "stranger danger" isn't a real (and growing) threat, and stranger abductions are WAY more likely to end with the child's death.

That's what I think a lot of people don't think of...once an offender has served time for sexual abuse, and they get out, their next victim is more likely to wind up dead, because they don't want to leave a witness to send them BACK to prison.

you obviously do not understand the point of our prison system. once you are released from jail you are considered by the state to be rehbailitated. prison is not supposed to be about punishment (in practice this is not always true, but that's a whole different topic of discussion entirely).

It's definitely sad, but if a kid is abducted, raped and killed - it ends there... but if they are abused by a friend or relative all their childhood, when they grow up, they can become the next child sexual offender -- who may become the next stranger pedophile killer.

So if you really want to eliminate the stranger abductions, you need to eliminate the familial sexual abuse first! Sure, lock your doors and do your due diligence as much as possible to prevent abductions. And don't trust every "nice" adult person who wants to spend time with your kids!

Definitely a good point.

I can count on one hand the number of people I leave my kids with just for that reason. It's just a chance I'm not willing to take, and yes it means that I only get out without my kids once a month or so, but their well-being is worth it.
