Who has a Treo 650?

When you're connected to the internet and browsing sites and such, do you get charged for airtime in addition to data transfer? What carrier are you using?

Thinking about getting one but just not sure yet.

One of my friends just got that one. I think you just get charged a flat rate on Verizon now.

Its real a great combo of devices.

I hear the Treo 650 is the best right now. I started a thread a few weeks ago asking about these things and it seems the Treo 650 is the winner

i have an RIM Blackberry 7250. i love it. i looked at the treo's, they seemed a little ungainly to me. plus the only things it seems to have that the blackberry doesn't is an mp3 player and a camera. two things i wasn't really interested in having on a phone.

check out the bb's before you jump right into the treo.

I'm checking a bunch of different sites and such for reviews. Sprint seems to be the way to go as it's cheaper and looks to provide more services than Verizon. Too bad most people I talk to are on Verizon and I wouldn't get "In" minutes.

Hmmm. decisions, decisions.

Had a treo 650. Took it back.

Buggy, and no wifi support. Went and got an audiovox 6600 with a combo sd + wifi card.

I have mine through Sprint. Reason being, the data is cheaper through them .. Unlimited data from the PCS Vision plan, for 15 bucks a month. With the cheapest plan at 39.99 a month, that puts you at 55 a month .. add $5.00 a month for insurance, because that 650 ain't cheap to replace when it breaks, and if it is anything like the 600.. ... it will break eventually. $60 a month through Sprint, not bad.

Verizon and Cingular both have Unlimited data plans, which are 40 bucks a month .. then you have to buy a phone plan on top of that.

Not to mention, Apparently .. Cingular's unlimited data plan does NOT include unlimited text messaging, wtf is up with that?? This is what I have heard.

In Short, with pSSH, VersiMail, VeriChat, PocketTunes, an SD Card, and a decent web browser .. there is not a whole lot I can't do with the Treo 650. To top it off, the Bluetooth sync's with my car, and also with my laptop giving my laptop wireless net when I am out of a WiFi hotspot.

Now if I could only get my NoviiRemote working for a universal remote.

The original treo 600's were pretty weak, I had my screen go bad on that one, when they sent me replacement thru the warranty, i got a brand new treo 600 of the new version, it was SO much nicer and sturdier (so it seemed) and still is very sturdy and no problems at all...

This post sums up perfect what I've found out the last couple of hours and it's the setup I'll probably be going with.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I have treo 650, great combo device, but I will change it tomorrow for JAM... Why?
Well, first I already have other PDA (HPx4700) so I bought plenty of software for that one, and now I need to buy similar software for PALM.
2nd, as I said it is great device but has buggy speakerphone. Sometime you can't hear almost nothing in first couple secondes of talk.
3rd it has only 32MB of RAM (23MB which you can use, and majority of app you can't instal on SD card)
4th 640x480 camera (this one isn't important, at least not for me)...

With change tomorrow I will lose EDGE (I will miss this one), and QWERTY (I will not miss that)...

If you don't have other win based devices, and this is your first PDA (or combo device) then I will say go with Treo 650, otherwise if you are used on PPC based software go with JAM or HP...

I have 600 and will go up to the 650 soon.

I love it.

Get it throug Sprint - cheaper data - flat rate per month.

I had trouble with the phone once, took it to Sprint for service, and they ordered me a new phone for absolutely free - no questions asked.

you have to get some $50 device that goes in the SD slot to extend the range of your IR in order to get novii to work beyond 3 or 4ft.

also, i love my treo650, would recommended it to everyone that does any business on the internet.

I agree - I find my 650 to be quite useful in my day to day activities. The only thing that I can fault it with is not including voice dialing into the phone app itself. There's a great program called VoiceDial that requires *NO* training whatsoever. No prerecording of names either, just say the name that you typed into the phone book and it JUST WORKS.

The downside with this is that it doesn't work with a bluetooth headset which kinda sucks (it works with the headset in, and transfers the call appropriately, but you have to speak into the phone, not the headset - and the headset cannot initiate calls.)

That aside, I love mine.

I thought Sprint disabled the bluetooth to laptop feature?

verizon gives u an option of paying as u go or add a per month fee ontop of your regular plan... whenu browsing the internet it's using up your data usage which you pay for as you go or per month.

you kidding? Treo 650 ranked #10 in PC World this year and no sign of Nokia hitting the top notch as far as PDA is concerned.
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...3,pg,12,00.asp

excerts taken from a Review site:

"The conclusion is rather simple - buying it is possible if you have much money and are ready for brave experiments. Anyway you can try what Nokia 7710 is in a shop. Words about mythic "power", "strength", and "functionality" of the device do not pass real life tests; the smartphone is uncomfortable in everyday life. If you need a business device, you'd better have a look at Nokia 9300/Nokia 9500. They have a higher operating speed and comparable functionality. If you need a touchscreen, you'd better turn to Sony Ericsson products or MS Windows Mobile smartphones."

The latest OS update for the Sprint phones provided on the Palmone site, enables this. No longer a need for the Bluetooth DUN Hack.

What is the Treo 650 Updater 1.12?

New with version 1.12:

* Enables Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking
* Updates VersaMail to version 3.1 to enhance stability and add improvements
* Adds support for more Bluetooth carkits including Acura, BMW, Chrysler, Toyota Prius (see all compatible car kits)
* Reduces post-dial delay before a call is connected
* Send SMS messages from Missed Call Alert or Call Log
* Now there's a new user guide that incorporates the changes after running the Treo 650 Updater: Treo 650 User Guide (PDF)

Nice... so if i got a treo 650 and had a dialup ISP I could dial into it with a laptop and bluetooth adapter, and just get billed for airtime instead of data transfer?
