I don't tell many exactly what I do and don't think I ever would just meeting someone for the first time.

if the topic of work comes up at some point early on.. it's the ole "internet marketing and advertising".

I guess I've just run into the wrong people. I enjoy some high end things and guess I've not found someone who is secure enough financially to keep up with me. I also love to treat people, etc..but when the guy asks you to dinner and the new restaurant in town then stares at you when the check comes... I'm done. They've all just seemed to get too comfortable with my income.

This doesn't have much to do with the original topic of the thread, but I really don't understand the people who think there is only one way to do things, ie, men and women should only fuck and have kids and that's it, or that everyone has to get married/settle have kids and that's it. Some people seem to think that anyone who thinks differently just hasn't figured out the "truth" yet.

You want to know the real truth? Everyone and every situation is different. Trying to make everyone fit into one box... whether that's the "marriage and soul mate and kids" box or the "fuck and run box" is just silly. There's not one particular way we "have" to live in order to be "right." Some people go through different stages in life, some people may never feel the need to settle down, others may never feel the need to have a one night stand. Why do you assume that your way is everyone's way? We all work in an industry which requires some pretty open-minded thinking, why, when it comes to this kind of thing, does everything turn into a black and white issue all of a sudden?

Dating in the Industry can be hard. It's got it's pros and cons. And it's inevitable that you have to run into each other from time to time. And then there's the shows with flowing drinks that can cause a few confusions and you know there are the few crazy's out there that just by saying "hi"...you are automatically trying to work it out with them or are magically back together...haha. But the worst is when you start dating someone else in the industry and you both have dated other people in the indutry and the next thing you know...you are all at the same awkward party...lol Also, I have noticed that the crazy ex's are inevitable too in both the industry and with "civilians"..Now lets talk about the Stage 4 Clingers!!!LOL

Wow, after reading that Megan I realized we had a lot more in common that I thought, hehe. In regards to what you said about dating in the industry, it's called "you don't shit where you eat" and unfortunately, I had to learn that through experience like you. That always sucks. But in my opinion what you're going through is not because of the industry we're in, it's because you're a highly intelligent, ambitious go-getter that's also highly competitive. It's unfortunate that only a small percentage of men are able to be with a woman like you because most men eventually become threatened. I know alot of woman with your same story. My advise to you and to my gf's encountering the same dilemma...focus on your career now while it's only you and you have the ability to do it. You're right..it's always a boy's club at the top, and to compete you have to be able to work harder and put in more hours than they do. They go off on their little tangents and they're lost. I just tell them I work in online media now. I find that it actually helps if they DOn'T know what I do. I mean, they can't even being to relate to my lifestyle, and I think you will find Megan that none of them really can. I've been in the biz since I was 23. I'm 33 now. All through my twenties I thought it was the coolest thing in the world to be part of this business. I would totally introduce myself as a "porn site operator". ESPECIALLY when I used to work for Hustler. It was fun to tell people I "help run some of the largest online porn sites in the world".

I agree 1000% percent. The worst part for me was being stuck at home for days at a time. This business can be very anti-social.

As corny as it sounds, I actually like having a "day job" now cause it actually gets me out of the house.

But meeting women that are "ok" with this biz are hard to find. It seems like the "bad girls" are the ones ok with it and the "good girls" run for there life thinking we must be sleazballs".

I learned this lesson the hard way a few years ago. I met this gorgeous Italian American girl at a family friends wedding. Cute, funny and best part of all Italian American like me. We totally hit if off and were talking, hanging out a lot. But of course I had to brag that I have a cool rockstar job running adult sites. That instantly put me in the "friend zone" cause she assumed I was a perve.

I have NO doubt in my mind if I would have just held out telling her and got her liking me more first, she would have had no problem finding out later. If I would have just waiting till after actually sleeping with her it would have been fine. She's be all googly eyed for me and not think twice about it.

I can't imagine how I would deal with dating while having interests in adult business.

I had just met my now husband when I got my first job in adult in 97 and he had no problems with it, ended up working there with me, and here we are 10+ years later through it all and still making money from adult interests.

If I had to date, with the already difficulties in "dating," I'd probably be a celibate pseudo dyke because of the hassles of having a vagina while profiting off pornography on a social level. Scary.

I feel for those of you facing these difficulties. And the data trails on the internet, what a nightmare of evidence piling on top of the issues.

I had just met my now husband when I got my first job in adult in 97 and he had no problems with it, ended up working there with me, and here we are 10+ years later through it all and still making money from adult interests. If I had to date, with the already difficulties in "dating," I'd probably be a celibate pseudo dyke because of the hassles of having a vagina while profiting off pornography on a social level. Scary. I feel for those of you facing these difficulties. And the data trails on the internet, what a nightmare of evidence piling on top of the issues. therefore I have no advice or real contribution to this thread.
