Friends have wasted their money on it and never used it shortly after buying it.

Don't waste your money.

Get a gym membership.

Please don't waste your money. For less than half the cost, you can buy free weights, bench, and squat rack, which will do everything Bowflex will do and more. Oh, and it will do it better. Bowflex doesn't provide natural resistance nor equal resistance throughout the lift like free weights will.

The BowFlex doesn't give you muscles just because you bought it and sit on it. You have to like...... use it

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Some truly priceless comments.

1. People have to be honest with themselves. I know for me, I would never go run 10 miles out at the local track. But I will do a couple of miles a day on a treadmill at my house.

2. The gym fantasy. One of many reasons why people fail to do anything. Again, being honest with yourself, is that I can easily think of 10 reasons any given day why I do not wanna get ready, drive to the gym, work out for half a day and so on. But... if the equipment's here, I can make time for it. 3-5 times a week.

I just know myself and I am honest about it.

3. When you are out of shape, you do not need the 'perfect set up'. i.e. free weights, etc. Much like I started on a treadmill, and am moving to an elliptical. You have to walk before you can run.

Those things said, the comments are dead on for how most have memberships, and never go. Or buy equipment, and never use it, etc.

My old college roommate has a gym not more than a half block away he pays for, and has for 3 years. He's been there twice. Always has an excuse why he doesn't go, but keeps paying.

He's one of about a half dozen I can think of like that.

LOL ..... Get a good pair of boots (tennis shoes get wet in the rain) some sweats, a few dumb bells. Everyday spend 15 minutes to an hour doing calastenics, reps with weights, running fast (no fucking jogging) Don't puss-out because it's cold or wet or you don't feel good. Fuck health clubs, fuck fancy gadgets.

You're a basic, grungy, sweaty, smelly, sex driven male ... act like it!

"I" think if you get one you wont use it. I worked out for years in the gym and loved it then bought my own shit for the house and never touched it. I think a lot of people including myself get more motivated to do something in the gym environment. It's the simple things like having to get dressed, start the car, drive 15mins or so and then get in there. Having it in your living room gives you the room to say things like "ohh i'll get on it in a few mins, oh maybe after this TV show" etc...Not sure where you're from but look up Planet Fitness. It's a nice gym for $10 a month. Cant beat that with a stick.

There is a reason they never show the bowflex in peoples rooms and always in a warehouse setting, the thing is a fucking monster, it devours a room.

It's different for everyone. I belonged to a gym, went twice. finally cancelled. Got a bowflex and use it every other day, and my eliptical everyday. Took me 40 years to get in real bad shape, going to take some time getting back into a descent shape, other then round. I'm down a shirt size and a pants size. Arms are getting some definition back.

The trick is figuring out what is right for you and sticking with it. good luck.

Gyms are for people who feel the need to show off to everyone else and BS with everyone rather than actually get anything done.

People who have motivation will work out at home and get 10 x more done in the process.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I have another friend who is not motivated to do things by himself. He MUST have the gym, or friend go with him, or that 'competitive' spirit. Otherwise he just can't do things. He needs the 'routine' of it all.

It's not just in working out, it's his personality. He is one that just needs someone else going with him, or to make it into a competition to stay motivated.

Like someone else pointed out, just get a bar some weights and a bench... You don't need $900 piece of equipment when $150 bar and weights will do exactly the same....

That is what 24/7 fitness are hoping for. Imagine if everyone they sold memberships to actually went. There would be no room.

If your not gonna do the gym thing... then get a good incline/decline bench and those select tech weights. Takes up far less room, and the dumbells will work you far better and more evenly than the bows ever could.

Contrary to some posts a bench won't get you in shape. In fact your lazy ass will probably try and cheat with each lift and injure your lower back.

Well it's certainly better than nothing but that's about all you can say for it.

Myself I train about 4 hours a day 6 days a week. That's an hour's run, an hour at the gym and about 2 hours at martial arts.

I personally started with a personal trainer so as to learn proper form, how to build and change up routines and good nutritional information. You CAN learn this all your self, but it's much easier, especially with exercise forms to be taught by somebody that knows.

As for doing it, well, just do it. When I don't feel like running in the morning, I just put my running shoes, ipod and heart monitor on and head out anyways. It helps to think of it as your time "away". When I'm running, for instance, I never think about work or anything else and my mind sort of drifts away. Same with the gym. Since I work from home it feels like I'm always at work, so an hour at the gym in the early afternoon is a great break.

Exactly. Bowflex isn't horrible. It will provide resistance sure, but there are many better alternatives for less money.

Maybe you are describing your work ethic on fitness chief?

Um, if you are all flabby from the waist up. Lifting weights 5 times a week for an hour or two will get you in better shape. Not cardio, but otherwise.

Comprende?

Nice troll, like if everyone has the same machines/classes at their home that any decent gym has.

lots of nonsense in this thread.

only about 5% of you guys are in shape and the simple reason is because being in shape is a lifestyle thing that requires discipline and real work, rather than talking about it.

i've had a bowflex sport model almost 3 years. bought it cheap on ebay from a fat guy in chicago who never used it.

bowflex is very well made, and it does take up lots of space so you need a place to use it without having to push it around. truth is ANY exercise gizmo will help you if you set your timer and work with it every fucking day.

to stay in shape you must be on a routine, which means exercise must be convenient, which means having a machine at home that you can do 15 minutes on while your oatmeal, walnuts, flaxseed and raisin breakfast cools in the microwave means you stay in shape and don't waste time.

you will not build up huge muscles on bowflex, what it will give you is a flat belly and a swimmer's build.

i do 15 mins daily on bowflex for arms, and ride my bicycle for 30 mins (indoors on bike trainer during winter) every fucking day.

and i am on a careful, 1900-2100 cal/day diet.

and it does work.

If you call just doing bench presses getting in shape knock yourself out. That was the context my comment was about.

I understand what you are saying.

I was referring to the Bowflex's 60 plus you could do. So you could tone up your muscles.

That works for me.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned (even considering the challenge) that 50% OR MORE of doing something like this or any program is WHAT YOU EAT, your intake of cal. and amounts of protein etc etc etc

and the bowflex is a great machine when used correctly and you stick to a strict diet

I have had my bowflex for over 4 years. I use it regularly and keep on a routine, when I am home I eat very well. You can add size if you take care of the machine and don't keep the bows bent at all times.

The trick is just like anything else. If you use it, it will work!

For me instead of driving 15 minutes each way to and from the Gym I walk downstairs and in the 30 minutes of drive time I get my work out in.

Very good point.

I changed my diet about 2 years or three now since I quit drinking. That was nice, and I have lost 30 lbs in that time. But diet will only get you so far.

I bought one of their TreadClimbers for $2500 about 6 mos ago. Took me about 4 fucking hours to assemble it. I have used it once for 10 minutes. The concept is good, but the only workout I got from it was writing the check for it and lugging the 4 really fucking heavy boxes into the house.

I have one here at home and I second this comment.

The bowflex, when it was in my garage, got used regularly and it worked really well. I don't use it now, but that's because it's in a room where someone else sleeps. It got moved from the garage to upstairs and hence became dusty.

It also made for a great place to fuck, you have to use your imagination, but it's pretty fucking cool when you're used to the same old sex.

It's a piece of crap. Either get real equipment or join a gym.

I used to have one. Didn't use it much though. It was nice when I used it though. Beats spending 45 bucks/month on a gym membership + time and gas spent to get to the gym and back. So it takes about an hour to get a 30 minute workout at a gym. You really don't need a bowflex or gym membership as you can do everything you need to with a exercise bike and some free weights and this:

http://bodylastics.com/

Don't overdo it with the weights and go too fast and get wrist and hand tendinitis like I did!
