I enjoy watching and playing all sports, but personally American Football is by far my favorite. The problem is that people from other countries see it as boring and slow, with too many pauses and breaks. The reason why people don't like it is usually because they never take the time to learn the mentality, dynamics and philosofy of the game. I know MANY people who thought it was dumb and bopring but when they actually took the time to learn the rules and watched a few games became big fans of the sport. It is truly a unique combination of strategy and violence, very similar to war in that it is a territorial sport. Once you learn the fundamentals you might be amazed at how symmetric the game really is. NFL players are todays modern gladiators. No sport out there demmands as much from your body and mind.

I know the rules of the game, 3 tries to get 10 yards, if they don't they lose the ball where they failed so they normally kick it as far down as possible if they don't think the'll make the 10 yards. Lots of strategy involved. But it is still boring as fuck to watch as a 45 minute game takes 3 bloody hours.

Boxing is probably the most tollin sport you can do, boxers are the modern day gladiators, not American Football players

Correct. Rugby was originally very popular in the US and American Football was derived from the Rugby game largely because it was felt that Rugby was too brutal a game. They also wanted a game more strategy based and less free flowing. The protection came about (ironically) to make the physical contact element less of an issue as it was with rugby.

Soccer is the worlds most popular sport largely because it is simple to play. You don't need equipment except for 1 ball and the rules are very basic. No matter how poor or deprived you are you can still play soccer. In most of black Africa it is a relegion. No other sport can or ever will challenge soccer's world domination.

It is also the greatest sport on the planet

I modestly disagree.

True, in rugby you don't use equipment, but it is for a reason that you use equipment in American Football. If you try playing "professional" football without equipment you would literally die. In rugby you can only hit the player with the ball, and below the waist I believe. In American Football everyone hits each other. There are blind side hits, there are players running down a straight line, looking back at the ball, and as soon as they catch it get popped brutally by a defender without ever seeing it coming. Also, all the equipment you see on a player is not only used for protection, but also for hitting.

The thing with Amercian Football is that the entire mentality of the game is violent.

Except they arm tackle in rugby. In the NFL, every play is a simulation of a 45 mph car wreck.

Its hard for people to understand, but imagine you are playing soccer against the 11 fastest, strongest and most powerful soccer players in the world. The refferee hands you the ball and tells them to separate you from the ball when he blows his whistle. He gives them helmets and pads so they dont kill you when they get to you. If you study the history of football you will see in the beginning it was more like rugby. The forward pass was illegal and so all the plays were RUNNING plays. Running is something you do by using your feet. Also kickoffs, punts, field goals and extra points are all done by using your foot. Most of the players in the top 20 all time in scoring in NFL history are KICKERS. Kickers use their feet 100% of the time.
