For those of you that actually read this thread - that original quote from the Attorney General was part of that DOJ memo that was posted in the Washington Post over two months ago when they were trying to recruit FBI agents to man the "porn squad" - this is way old news and a bunch of BS being thrown out to scare WMs again - when this first aired in the news people were laughing at it because the FBI agents wouldnt even volunteer for this job - trying to tie together (pun intended) these cases where a guy got hammered by a local sheriff and someone allegedly pushing pedo to gain memberships in your organization is the worst kind of scam!

Hey, cutters need love too. On a serious note, though, anyone who attempts to do any sort of blood/cutting/piercing play needs to be thoroughly trained in how to do it BEFORE attempting it and should always have at least one first-aid qualified standby available in case accidents happen. (One of the main reasons that most public dungeons have DMs (Dungeon Monitors) available is to keep an eye on not only the entire dungeon but especially dangerous play situations. I've been DM qual'd for years.)

This increase in hate toward BDSM sites is another reason I'm dragging my feet about launching mine.

This is exactly right. There has never been any kind of change without people willing to take the chance and fight for their rights and their lifestyles. The forces of intolerance will continue to push as long as there is no resistance.

As many of you know BDSM was illegal in Canada and we were brought up on obscenity charges because of our Sadoslaves and Miss Pain sites. We defended ourselves vigorously because you can see this type of material everywhere you look in the mainstream. From shows such as "Kink" to popular movies, to popular fashions - fetish and bdsm themes are pervasive. All we had to do is prove to a judge that these practices are part of a safe and sane sexual life with testimony from renowned psychologists etc.

We were found not guilty and now it is safe for people to produce this type of content in Canada. We are very proud of what we accomplished and I sincerely hope there is someone in the US who will challenge this in court.

I reposted the article in good faith after taking it at face value...and I admit to the mistake of not checking the validity beforehand.

Aside from that, I now have a call in to Susan Wright (spokesperson with the NCSF - left voicemail) attempting to verify the validity of that press release.

I'm waiting to hear back from NCSF at this point (and the webmaster who originally posted the release).

And yes, I'm aware of the DOJ memo in the Washington Post.

Also they misstate two cases in Florida - first off they are both the same case and same person - and second he hasnt been prosecuted yet.
The also list the fact that there were 40 obscenity cases prosecuted in the US since 2001 - this would also require some facts to back up as I think that there has only been 1 and that one the govt lost.
The fact that one WM has decided to close down their site without fighting sounds to me like they are probably part of this organization and doing it to back up getting people to donate to this cause - which in this case unfortunately sounds like a bunch of people embellishing the truth to make money.

If someone has a real case (and not a pedo case like the other case they mention in that release) then I totally agree that we should back the FSC or EFF to go after the Gov't - just like we have in the past - and won.
They also mention that only 4 cases were brought during Clinton - but if I remember correctly - his Atty Gen did exactly the same thing and caused all of us to have problems and fight against the first COPA - I still remember everyone having the little ribbon and the black pages

The overall point is that there are some people in this industry that try to benefit from causing alarm based on false stories - and it seems to be growing exponentially in the last year - its shameful - but expected in an environment where its already worked once

The also list the fact that there were 40 obscenity cases prosecuted in the US since 2001 - this would also require some facts to back up as I think that there has only been 1 and that one the govt lost. The fact that one WM has decided to close down their site without fighting sounds to me like they are probably part of this organization and doing it to back up getting people to donate to this cause - which in this case unfortunately sounds like a bunch of people embellishing the truth to make money. If someone has a real case (and not a pedo case like the other case they mention in that release) then I totally agree that we should back the FSC or EFF to go after the Gov't - just like we have in the past - and won.
