If A 'Starbucks' Employee fucked up....

If you were in line at a Starbucks and the manager pulled you from the line and told you one of his employees had insulted you publicly would you:

A) Whup that employee's ass like it t'wuddn't no thang.

B) Whup everybody's ass in the store on general principal

C) Call your lawyer and Starbuck's HQ and work them like a fo' buck ho, yo! ?

I would throw my cup of steaming hot coffee into the guys face and then proceed to bash his fucking skull into the starbucks counter.

Pipecrew you're one smart cookie!

Yep! The manager not only did that but with a witness and gave me his name and phone #.

I then asked him and his 'homegirl' if before they confronted me with this slanderous detail if they had consulted corporate counsel 'first' which is the standard procedure. No they didn't and fucked up even more. They just kept burying themselves in a whole in the ground and yes I have other 'jobs' which you GFY'ers don't know about.

I'm sure they'll settle out of court because the ripple effect is too much, but it'll be a lesson to employees and managers in what to do.

I love Starbucks but this incident went straight to the top and there ain't no way they're gettin out of it.

I'm sure one of my high school or college buddies is one of their attornies and we'll straighten it out. Every time I turn around one of my school mates is the top attorney for this or the top attorney for that. I forgot how old our asses are and they should be on top by now.

Sounds like it's a disgruntled manager and his girlfriend setting up a scam or you and an old high school buddy and his girlfriend that ain't a "top this or that" who's come up with this bright idea.

Expect the "we'll testify in your behalf that the offence was committed" if you'll give us a % of the settlement if it's just them communication.

Expect guys in dark uniforms knocking on your door if you were part of the plan.

Any store manager would have fired the girl on the spot - apologized to you and offered you anything you wanted free of charge. Any decent customer would have accepted the apology - especially since you didn't actually hear what she had said, been satisfied the offender was fired and wouldn't be someone you'd have to deal with again at that place of business again and ordered an extra large whatever since it was free and that would be the end of it.

Coffee ain't the only thing I smell in the air on this one.

KMR I can't go into too much detail let's just say it's a manifestation of a common behavior I've noticed here in Los Angeles. It's something I've never run into before anywhere in the world.

Businesses in California forget one thing: YOU are the CUSTOMER. NOT the 'help', NOT the 'guy who looks like the villain on the tv show', NOT the 'person who looks like someone's ex'.

I've never seen anything like this before. I pay CASH. Not credit cards and promises. I'm polite when I hit the door but people out here in Hollywood act like they're doing YOU a favor by taking YOUR money! There are only a few, few establishments I've been to where there wasn't some fight a few hours earlier!

In NY if you acted like this you'd be outta business by the end of the day and probably in a hospital.

I think the problem in Los Angeles is there are so many people now businesses don't have to compete for traffic so it's a 'fuck you be lucky you've got a seat' attitude.

Not only that but too many people out here actually think they're ON a tv show! They're in some kind of bizarre dream where they think they're the star of their own show and everyone else in the universe is a walk on player.

you think a manager at a major firm actually has the power to fire people, definatly not in the UK. They suspend you, then there is an investigation involving wayyyy higher people than store managers.

So someone told you that someone else insulted you sort of like a second hand insult. Now since this is a major company you will lawyer up and seek damages. Just how badly did this insult emotionally scar you, have you gotten to the point of PTSD yet?
Honestly I hope that you end up getting taken for a long ass legal ride where you end up with a large bill and a small payoff. Stupid fucking idiots running to the legal route every second someone does something now adays. Then we wonder why this country is getting so damn fucked up.

Uh yeah, right.

I don't know where you come from but where I come from your customers are your best friends. You treat them with respect and courtesy of the highest regard. If you're a chain you take responsibility to handle things so you don't fuss up things for everyone else.

We have legals so that arguments can be handled although I can agree watching the antics of some of the trials in the U.S. conflicts with that.

To be honest this thread sounds like absolute shite. No manager would go up to a customer and tell them that one of their staff has insulted you, they would take them out and deal with them, but they wouldnt jepodise the store rep by making a scene out of it.

You asked I gave response. Of course I was not there. Unless they splashed hot coffee in your face or urinated in your double mocha, why would you even ponder legal action over of all things a verbal insult.

What toenail did you crawl out from under?

Managers, depending on the infrastructure of a corporation and the law follow a procedure. He or she doesn't make up shit as they go along.

They have to be just as careful when disciplining an employee as they are when they hire one.

so do they have to explain why theyve fired people to their district managers? Sounds like a fucked up system to me, you could get really done over, just cos your manager doesnt like u

Generally no they do not with a few exceptions such as sexual harrassment issues. Yes you can get seriously fucked over if someone doesnt like you and your only real recourse is either legal action or a letter of complaint. Typically though a letter of complaint will do little to no good unless that manager has recieved a few already.

I've worked with major corporations for over 25 years. Moved from offices to remote nowadays.

When you hire you follow guidelines laid down carefully. When you fire likewise. In some cases depending on which state you're in, you can indeed release someone without reason. California is ONE of those states. You leave yourself open to some shit if you do, but it's legal to a degree.

Do not begin to pretend that people can not very easily be fired for nearly any reason. Yes they have laws they must obey which are very fucking open, and the company typically has some sort of disciplining guidelines in place that are just as easy to circumvent as the laws are.
No where did I say they just make up shit as they go along. If a manager wants to fire someone they can always find and have a reason to do so, it just may not be the real reason they did fire you.

Edit- And yes I am in California.

Agree 110%. Nothing to be gained. The only thing I can think is it went down like this:

Mgr: One of the girls on the back thought you were Michael Jackson.

Greg B: How dare you insult me like that!! I am going to sue you for saying that in front of all these people.

I don't know that Starbucks considers you an investor, just because you buy coffee there. However, let's go on the presumption that you are actually a shareholder in Starbucks. Then certainly you are aware of the fact that not all Starbucks are owned by Starbucks, so there is a huge fucking chance that all your little "corporate procedures" you are relying on would not even apply.

Starbucks, the corporation, is hardly going to be held liable over the comments made by the employee of a franchise owner.

Shhh, managers also can not fire people without approval.

Approval of whom? Look, I will admit that I have not worked for a company that was not a corporation since 1971, and prior to that I was always a great employee, and usually worked pretty close to the owner, so I have not had much personal experience, negative or otherwise with "managers." However, I have seen situations in small operations where a managercould make or break you.

However, let's talk reality here. An employee saying something to his manager, in private, about his personal thoughts about some guy standing in line, is hardly cause for termination.

Yeah in reality odds are the manager would not fire the person and at most just write them up, unless they did not like the person and wished them gone. Though in reality a manager would also never go up and tell the person in line what the employee said.
However my comment was not about what would happen, but what can happen if a manager wants it to.

They're in some kind of bizarre dream where they think they're the star of their own show and everyone else in the universe is a walk on player.

well then, you know what you have to do. join us back on the east coast where things are kept real all the time!
