Bank of America just charged me $400 in NSF fees in 1 week. What now?

So, I got a Bank of America account 3 weeks ago, and I have 2 other bank accounts, this one was just a back up account cause there is a branch within a minute of my house.

To make a long story short, I setup 4 different direct deposits from my bank of america account to credit card companies so they can automatically take out the payments out of my account.

I dunno how it happened, but somehow I forgot to add the sufficent amount of funds in there, and the direct deposits all tried to take out the payments, and they all came back as NSF, and within a span of 5 days, I racked up $400 in NSF fees!

I just checked my statement today and saw this, so I deposited all the NSF fees and then some to being the account to positive, and I called and talked to an associate who told me they cannot refund any of the money, and I talked to a supervisor who said the same thing, they wont even give me a courtesy removal of just one of the fees.

Is there anything else I can do? Am I stuck with $400 in fees?

Bank of America sucks imo. Unless you're a longtime customer there isnt much you can do. I'd make some calls or go in to your branch and go as far as closing your account. You MIGHT get some of the money back. But technically, and only TECHNICALLY. B of A is in the right here and it was your responsibility to have funds to cover your accounts payable from that account. With that being said....i feel for ya..it sucks

I can't believe they won't even remove 1?? They give me 11, and won't even remove 1 as a courtesy.

Why would you be stuck with $400.00 in insufficent fund fees? Most banks...I think...usually charge $10-$25 per insufficent fund charge.

Switch to Wachovia. The best bank in my opinion.

Why didn't you have overdraft protection?

i have heard bad things about bank of america as well..

I always prefer to use small local banks and credit unions because you get better service and nicer people...

At my local bank if i get a NSF i just go down there with a nice size deposit and apologize and say something like i wasnt able to get down here in time to make this deposit yesterday.. and they always remove it for me

Why would you have 11 charges when you only had four accounts to be taken out...and to the best of my knowledge they are only supposed to process each one...a single time?

My brother had this happen with bofa

heres what you do. Dont just say " refund them or i close my account "

get a meeting with the bank manager. Explain that you cant afford a $400 loss. Explain it would be in their best interest to toss half the charges ( or something ) and that they would make it back eventually ( because you plan on doing lots of business with them )

Tell them you already have an account with BANK1 and that they have worked with you on this sort of thing before , if they dont work with you , you will have no choice but to find a new bank

i'm kinda curious but why should they even give you back one when it was obviously your mistake?

let me give you an example here, customer calls because a membership put them in the negative and their bank charged them nsf fees. are you going to feel badly for that customer and give them their money back because they were not responsible enough to keep money in their account to cover their purchases?

i think not.

i feel for your 400 loss and it's a costly lesson but one well learned i am sure.

You are stuck with the fees ... I had a similiar incident with them and I couldn't get back my money at all. Don't use BofA, they are the worst bank.

Because they charge you $30/incident ... and when it happens in bulk and it's $400, they should give you some kind of break. Does it really cost $30 for them to process an NSF payment? No ... I use to work in the NSF department at Norwest Bank (Now Wells Fargo).

I had a big problem with BofA a few days ago as well (you may remember the thread "Fuck Bank of America"). While I still agree that BofA sucks ass, I have to say that when I went in and talked to a Personal Banker she really took care of me. If you happen to get lucky and talk to the right person (IN PERSON - over the phone they can't / won't do anything) they will seriously help you out.

Also, tell her that you'd like to signup for a BofA credit card while you are there and they will be ten times as good to you.
Good luck man.

again, i ask why should they give anyone a break for lack of responsibility? don't tell me "because they should". that's not a valid reason.

i am the first person to say banks and their fees but there is also a thing called responsibility. if it was a bank error, then i can see the reason for the complaint but it wasn't. although it sounded like an honest error on his part, he is still responsible for his mistake.

i dont believe merchants should be charged ridiculous cb fees due to dishonest customers (or any type of customer for that matter) and i don't believe a customer should be railed with ridiculous fees BUT if you are in the wrong, then you are in the wrong. take it like an adult and don't make the mistake again.

With all due respect, you are clueless. Just because you don't make $30/hour does not mean that the company isn't paying significant monies to take care of this type of irresponsibility of their customers.

Seems to me that they have entire departments they had to start just for these instances.

For B of A to charge $ 33.00 per item you have to have had like
(think it's 10 or 12 items) returned within the last 12 months. Other wise it's $15.00 per item.

He's not being truthful.. Maybe I should say HE lie

BOFA is shit - they did this to my wife, she made all the bill payments on line, think it was like 10 ebills and it said delivery time 2-3 days and they took all the money out before the check cleared and there was like $300 or so in bank fees - they were all at $33.00 each! we called the bank manager also the 800 number THEY WOULD NOT DO SHIT!

closed the account the next day.

time to move on.

Funny banks you guys have in the USA:-) WHen I hear all these stories over fees etc, the only thing that is better there, is that it's free to cash a check
