Reflected situation. Move?
I've got an important site hosted over there with tons of databases and scripts that I don't know how to backup and stuff... when my server goes down this site is fucked BIG TIME.
in their email they sent to customers they write that there is nothing to worry about because the shit effects two totally different companies but then again everyone is telling me to move. give me some input. |

Move your shit, and move it fast. They obviously are telling you everything is fine because they dont want you to move. Remember they just sold a month ago to servercentral. Remember donnie Gangsta saying how they were simply rolling along like biz as usual? then they sell out, and now the current ftc shit? I personally would take my shit and run.
This is just my opinion of course. |

Any more comments? I just have been in contact with the script writer and was able to backup everything... now what should I do more... should I have that domain setup on another box of mine as well so that in case the machine is down I just have to change the DNS or is it even possible to have the website running on several totally different companies so in case one goes down, the 2nd one takes care of the traffic?
keep in mind I'm a tech/server newbie |

Its all about how much you got to lose.
Ask yourself if you afford xxx downtime and you'll know what to do. (the downtime may never occur, but "better safe than sorry") |

If it matters to you, I'd say move or have a mirrored rig set up at another host and then if things are cool later you can always move back to them..

Trax,
Make a tar backup and send the login info to MikeW at [email protected] and we will put it on one of our backup servers for you at no cost until you have a better idea of what is going on with Reflected. - Matt

I dont know , but i def think its very very shady that they would put a disclaimer on their front page claiming its a different reflected, even though one of the people charged is FROM GFY and promotes reflected using his reflected.net email account, offers hosting deals for reflected and is listed as an employee of reflected, and is known as phil from reflected.net.
Now im not saying they are guilty im just saying it seems shady they would lie.

I have a solution for you:
SplitInfinity will set up a server for you exactly like your one there is for FREE. If there is a problem you can switch to us immediately. Obviously we could not just let it sit forever, but it surely would get you secured and safe in the case you need to jump ship. Anyone else need this kind of help? I'll post the letter to our customers we sent in a few minutes on a separate thread, so more people see it, but since someone says we're LYING, here's some facts: Phil Doroff, "phil21" on GFY, is named in the FTC suit as an officer of WTFRC, Inc., which is the company that sold us Reflected.net. WTFRC, Inc. is a Nevada corporation which doesn't currently do business as Reflected Networks because they sold the name, customers, and certain assets to us. Phil is currently employed as our director of operations, but he is neither an owner nor an officer of the company. The charges against Phil and WTFRC, Inc. are NOT against me, my partner, our company (Reflected Networks, Inc. of Illinois). We are in touch with the FTC's attorney for the case, and they understand that we are not the same company as WTFRC, Inc. in Vegas. They are NOT suing us for SPAM, pulling out our equipment, or shutting us off. Who's lying? Feel free to PM me with any serious questions. DHB daniel at reflected dot net |

They are fine. My sites are all good. Stick with them.
Dear Robert Ferrara, We are writing you to provide you with an update about the recent press from the FTC regarding Reflected Networks. As you can imagine, the events of the last few days have generated a high volume of inquiries from customers and other interested parties. We'd like to take this opportunity to explain to you a bit about what has transpired. As you may remember from the last email we sent, Reflected Networks changed hands of ownership last November. Substantially, the brand name, certain assets (i.e. servers) and the customer base were sold by Reflected Networks, Inc. of Nevada, to Reflected Networks, Inc. of Illinois. As part of the terms of the sale, the Nevada corporation was required to change its name to WTFRC, Inc. with the Secretary of State of Nevada. WTFRC, Inc. is not the same company as Reflected Networks, and WTFRC, Inc. does NOT conduct business as Reflected Networks, Inc. For verification purposes, this information is publicly available by visiting the Secretary of State's offices in the States of Illinois and Nevada online and conducting a few name searches: http://www.sos.state.il.us/CorpSearchWeb/corpsrch.html http://www.sos.state.nv.us/begin.asp We, the new owners of Reflected.net, do not belong to any affiliate programs, are not involved in any SPAM operations, and do not permit such operations to take place within our network. Most importantly, we'd like to reassure you that it will remain business as usual at Reflected.net. Our attorneys have been in touch with the FTC, and are working to get the inaccurate information stricken from the caption of charges (the part that says d/b/a/ Reflected Networks, Inc. under WTFRC, Inc.). The FTC will NOT be confiscating, seizing, or shutting off our servers, or our customer's servers. You'll also notice the WHOIS information for the domain reflected.net has been updated, as well as the contact info for our IP blocks. Since most of you work with Phil on a frequent basis you'd probably like to understand a bit about his involvement in WTFRC, Inc. and his role at Reflected here in Chicago. Phil was a minority shareholder in the old Reflected (now WTFRC, Inc.) of Nevada. When we purchased the Reflected brand and customers, we retained Phil as the director of operations, but he is neither a principal nor an officer of the company. It is important you understand that the allegations brought against WTFRC Inc. and Phil Doroff are purely of a civil nature, and not criminal - and that NO charges are filed against the Reflected Networks with which you conduct your business. In simple terms, the FTC is currently seeking monetary restitution, not jail time from the defendants, and the actions will not impact the high quality service we provide. If you wish to read any of the FTC's filings, they are publicly available here: http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0423168/0423168.htm. Again, it will continue to be business as usual here at Reflected - hopefully you got to meet us at Internext in Las Vegas, and of course we'll be in Miami this summer. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact us with questions regarding your service with us. Warm Regards, Dan Brosk and Jordan Lowe Owners Reflected Networks, Inc.

Im inclined to believe Daniel above, and think you should be fine with Reflected. The name was just thrown around because of previous involvment by Phil who was affiliated with Reflected.
Id be willing to say you're safe where you are, and should stay.... If you are truly worried you can make a backup of your files (which you should have to begin with, FTC problems or no). |

If this is the case im sincerely sorry , Infact i would still guess phil is just caught up in the case but not the "targets" in this case. But you have to admit its AWFULLY shady looking.. phil is named in the charges and so is reflected net but it happens to be a different reflected.net ?? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the correlation. Regardless even having an employee of your hosting company being charged by the ftc is fairly scary and worrysome for partners/customers and the way your disclaimer reads, it makes it sound as if its all just a confusion with the name , and its not.

http://www.spamhaus.org/rokso/eviden...kso_id=ROK2235 Put that together with the YAHOO news stating reflected networks and phil together , then tell me anyone wouldn't put 2 + 2 together ?? Phil works for you and is charged by the ftc , but its just a coincidence that your also known as reflected ? ANYONE is innocent until proven guilty , but looking out for your interests is just a no-brainer

There was no flaming or anything meant when I started this thread... but I had a similair thing happen to me in the past which cost me a nice chunk of money. Therefore I just want to be sure, cuz when my server goes down or better... is taken offline I will surely have to kill someone on the next convention or whatever.
Just want to clarify my point hehe |

Does the fact that we bought the name reflected.net mean that we are guilty of any spamming or sending emails with sexual content? No. Are we charged by the FTC, is our address listed, or our names mentioned? No. Please, take some time to educate yourself by reading the FTC's charges, or at least my other post where I explain what has happened. We're working to have "WTFRC, Inc. D/B/A/ Reflected Networks, Inc." at least updated to "WTFRC, Inc. FORMERLY KNOWN AS Refleted Networks, Inc." on the FTC's charges, but whether or not they update it, it is NOT our company. I reiterate myself - my partner and I are not mentioned, and have no direct involvement in the case. |

I have read all the charges from the ftc site. ANYONE would come to the conclusion its reflected.net . I appreciate your concern if your innocent , but dont blame me for stating the correlation , you should take that up with the ftc.. What your saying is shortly after phil *allegedly spammed reflected to death he sold it to you and now works for the same company he sold it too ? Confusing to say the least ?? http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/sbl.lasso?query=SBL14923 spam complaint with your domains listed as recently as july ?? Im not saying YOUR guilty or even that PHIL is guilty im just saying its not as cut and clear as you make it sound.

phil is a good guy and reflected networks are obviously a top notch hosting company and I dont honestly see why they should suffer because some government agency has decided to issue charges against him
DOES IT MEAN HE'S GUILTY? no, it doesn't.

Reflected has provided me with top notch service and flaming fast bandwidth for quite some time, I have no complaints with them what so ever. Do an export of you db's and make some tar backups of your sites and download them if your worried, I do it every month or two on all my sites anyway, they are nice to have just in case and anyone running without backups is taking a huge risk.

We've got about 20 servers over there, so of course we had some concerns. Phil put me in touch with their attorney yesterday and I now fully understand the situation and have no concerns whatsoever. We will remain a satisfied Reflected customer.

I'm with reflected too and they have been great to me from Day 1.
Every business has its dramas and they only make the business stronger. I see reflected surving this and being a stronger company on the other side. And hey, as mentioned above - customers remaining loyal will not be forgotten. Saying that, it's always good to have backups - no doubt about that. but you should have backups no matter what host you are with! |

You should make a backup copy at the very least, not next week, but now. That I can assure you is a move you can never go wrong with.
