The downsides you are all talking about can happen in many situations.

Should you not date a girl that is in your circle of friends? I mean if you are in the same circle of friends you should click and get along really well, but at the same time he/she may have fucked someone else in that circle, he/she will probably be around if you break up.

The issue is are you mature enough to date someone in this industry and not give a shit about what other people say or do?

Any dating situation can have it's downfalls. Most are self inflicted and created.

Now THAT is funny. Very few people in this biz stay out of the drama. It's "As the Web Turns".

Sooo....Eric, uhm...what are you doing tomorrow night? Want to go rent Ghost and order Chinese take-out?

The coolest thing about dating a girl in the industry is that you could be looking at porn on your computer and she could walk in and not think twice lol.

Seriously though, it can be tough. If you're dating a girl who's job it is to flirt and shmooze clients, there can be some jealousy issues at hand.

Then there's the whole "dating talent" thing. I'm pretty secure in my manhood, but something just doesn't sit right with me when I know my wife or girlfriend is fucking another dude. I guess some guys can separate sex and love...I'm not sure I'm one of them.

Tanker + Ellisa
Rene + Jenn

Two good examples of people who have managed to remain low key for the most part.

What's the problem Chandie, are you backing down now?

haha

As I mentioned above, I am TOTALLY envious when it does
work. There are a few couples who make me rethink this
issue time and again....Jason & Gail, Tanker & Ellisa, Jenn & D-Money, J$tyles & Danielle (and baby makes three).

But I could also list (with ease) five times as many people
who it HASN'T worked for...and has created drama and
discomfort aplenty.

But who knows, perhaps someone will change my mind.
I never say never.

I try to be an optimist as much as I can. While I do see how it would be a nightmare and I would like to avoid it... I also think this is the ideal place to meet someone closely linked with the kind of person I am.

That being said... you can have drama dating a non industry person, or have it here. If you play your cards right, or try to meet someone NOT insane () I think even a breakup can be an easy enough thing and seeing each other at shows, or what have you can be a pleasent hello.

I keep in touch with most of my exs.. one even on a daily basis. So I know keeping things civil can be easy enough.

So my 2 cents... yes it can be tricky but if you want it to work and don't CARE about what others are saying, but still do your job I think there is nothing wrong with it.

I actually seriously dated someone in the industry and it ended horribly. But, we didn't bring a lot of people into our personal business so when it ended, the only drama was between us. We are now friends again and talk on occassion. But my current guy was not in the industry when I met him although I met him at an industry function. I say it really depends on the people and the situation. There is no right or wrong answer.

I'd say the success rate is about as good as with any other dating scheme. Mail order brides might have a higher conversion ratio, I dunno.

IF that person is that way. Let them be. All you can ever control is yourself. I always say "Kill them with kindness" do the same with an ex and for the most part they will have nothing bad to say about you. And if they do talk shit people will eventually see through them and realize they are not worth being around.

For the most part anything negative that comes out of a relationship is usually because the relationship was continued on longer than it should have been. So the real question is when you know something is wrong do you stay in too long or do you know how to cut the cord early before things become too drama filled. That is where the drama comes from most of the time from all relationships industry or not.

I know more guys like that.

Do what you want I say and fuck what anyone else thinks. Anyone that wants to get involved with my business and cause drama is certainly going to get a lot more than they bargained for.

It's up to the person, you can't help who you dig, if you are mature about it, it's all good. The shows shmos, if you can't remain civil then you should not even be banging or in a relationship at all regardless of the industry or person. (well unless the guy or girl is a total dick and you can avoid situations where you are one on one) Whatever, do what you want when you want and with whomever you want.

you know i think that it can work but it is a lot of work and sometimes you can find yourself in situations that make your partner uncomfortable and i think that is the major thing.

you need to be respectful of the boundries that you and your partner have set forth and not let one person feel bad in a situation.

just my thoughts ..

I see a lot of valid points. I would date a pornstar, however not a girl that's actually in the industry (webmaster or working for another company).

Why? I find most pornstars hot. And they know how to get their freak on.

Why not some other girl in the industry? Because of the points already made.

That's true. I guess "fuck" was the wrong word in my post. I meant having any sort of intimate relation, whether it's fucking, sucking, or even kissing. Call me old fashioned, whatever...

Btw, does anyone know of any long-term relationship where either person (or both) are talent?

Yes. Rick OShea and Brittany OConnell. Been together for about 10 years I believe.

I don't know that I have ever experienced someone
seeking to hurt my reputation or "talking shit". I guess
I am just more uncomfortable with hurt feelings and
the (unavoidable) discomfort that people feel when
two "ex's" come together ie: who to invite to dinner, etc.

For being a huge industry, it can sure feel *very* small
*very* quickly.

you need to be respectful of the boundries that you and your partner have set forth and not let one person feel bad in a situation.

just my thoughts ..

i totally agree with you jeff! now lets move on to the hard part of what you just said.... how about actualy following through on that.

I say it's better to bring people from the industry into your life rather than bringing people from your life into this industry.

I think both are best to stay away from.

If someone has to choose between ex's for dinner, that's just bullshit, if there are more than 8 people at the table.

The problem is NOT dating someone from within the industry, the problem is how to act professionally while you're dating someone within the industry.

If you're hanging out with your friends that met in the business on vacation somewhere, then that does pose some thought. But if it's a business dinner, then act professionally, whether you're ex's or currents.

That's Rule #1.

There are people that didn't start out in this industry, ended up in it with their spouse or whatever you want to call it, that have split up while in the industry. And both of them still come out to dinners, act professionally and things are good all the way around.
