Best amount of "Cardio" to do in a week?
I did a hour today on the treadmill like 50 min yesterrday?
Is it too much to do it more than x amount of times per week? Os there a point were it will not be beneficial? |

my cardiologist says a brisk walk, 1/2 hour 3 times a week.
if you do it every day you can lower your cholesteral. |

Don't think you can ever get too much cardio in...unless you're trying to build mass.

Of course just doing cardio will work, but I find that lifting + cardio is more efficient... and, as always, if you're looking to lose weight, changing your diet will have far far more effect than how much exercise you do. Good luck to ya, guido |

if your body gets used to a lot of cardio, your normal heart rate will drop, and you will burn less calories while not working out, and it will make it easier to gain weight...
but thats a pretty long term result.. wont happen that easily

Frequency - In general, cardio should be performed 3-5 times per week without more than 48 hours of rest passing between sessions. Any longer than 48 hours and your body starts to lose the positive effects of the previous session(s).
Duration - 20-60 minutes per session is sufficient for intermediate and advanced cardio fitness levels. For beginners, 1-2 small sessions of 10-12 minutes (not including warm-up/cool-down periods) should be performed for the first few weeks, then gradually up the duration per session each week thereafter as your body progresses. Intensity - Using an appropriate intensity level is key to obtaining significant results from any type of cardio activity. Beginners should work at a pace below 55% of their maximum heart rate for a few weeks to build a strong tolerance to the cardio activity before raising the intensity level. While intermediate and advanced individuals should work at a pace of 55/65-90% of their maximum heart rate Exactly from http://forum.bodybuilding.com your best source for bodybuilding. |

you're pretty good man.. an hour (assuming that includes a warmup and cool down) is good.. like 3x a week and SOME form of exercise the other days.

I find 4-6 times a week is best for me..
if u do it too much your body can't recover, if u do it too little your body can't adapt to it (or so I find)

Since you already have some muscle, you should weight train some, too. The extra muscle will help you burn calories and you're going to have to do it anyway, eventually. I guess it depends on what you like to do. I personally don't like to weight train and do cardio on the same day. I know a lot of people do both, but it always made me feel too shitty. Whichever one I did first, I never got a good workout on the other because I would be tired. I did weights 3 days and cardio 3 days and rested the extra day, just because I was lazy and wanted a break.

I started off doing cardio one day and then doing weights the next, though I've found that I've built my cardio up enough that I like to do 15 minutes as a warm up before weights.. lifting goes much better then with the blood pumping... otherwise I do 30-45 minutes of cardio on either treadmill, row machine, or eclipse.. I've been wanting to do a bit of cardio after lifting weights though I just haven't been bothered to.
Cheers, Matt

The amount of time you must spend doing cardio is inversely proportional to how fucking fat you are. Simple formula:
A (lbs of FAT) C (time on tradmill) --------------- = -------------------------------- B (Goal Wgt.) D (# of twinkies you eat) Solve for C |

20 min 4 times a week to prevent heart disease.. this keeps me pretty skinny but i also weight train.
Anything less than 20 min is useless, more is always better. |

I've been doing 4 days a week, straight cardio with no weights, about 45 minutes each session. Mainly to tighten up a bit as i'm not looking for mass. I plan to start on the weights in two more weeks in between those days. Mainly light wieghts just get the muscles moving. But I find that cardio is getting pretty damn addicting. I'm really enjoying it.

It seems 3 to 4 days a week are the majority of the answers in here.

From what I've read, the more cardio you do the more calories you will burn. So If anything you will see quicker results by doing cardio everyday. Never heard anything negative about doing it everyday. I wish I can do it everyday, but I'm lazy and get bored half way through.
