Most people gain weight by eating a little more food than their body needs over time, not from eating carbs. Eating the right amount of food with an EXTRA 20oz soda a day and no exercise will gain you a about 1 3/4 pounds a month. Those in the US should know that with the large portions in American restaurants it's not difficult to figure out where we get extra calories from.

That being said, even though they don't taste like table sugar, carbs are a sugar. You can lose weight by restricting your carbs because your body goes into what is called ketosis. My friend owns a GNC store. You can get these strips there that actually tell you whether your body is in ketosis. You can do this and it will work, for now. My guess is that most people who "diet" and try to trick their body into losing weight will gain it back as soon as the "diet" is over.

Eating a reasonable number of calories and having a more active lifestyle is the healthiest way to lose weight and keep it off.

If you eat 1500 calories a day and jog for 20 minutes a day you'll probably lose just about 4 pounds a month. You can do this regardless of what it is you eat. A 200 pound guy can lose 50 pounds eating pizza and McDonald's if he eats the right amounts. Not healthy, but it can be done.

You were probably skipping breakfast thinking that was good. It's the opposite. You wake up and your body hasn't has any calories (energy). So it responds by slowing down your metabolism to compensate and start storing fat.

Colin is right on the button with this, counting calories is the best way to lose weight, and eat at least 3-4 times a day, preferably 6.

Theres literally hundreds of pages of information about this kind of stuff on bodybuilding forums. Unless you're drastically trying to lose weight fast, try not to eat foods high in carbs or fat and make sure you get heaps of protein as well or you will lose muscle as well.

If you think you will have trouble counting everything, sign up to Fitday.com, and record everything you eat.

Cardio is the key exercise in losing weight as well, check out some documents on HIIT training if you want to get a bit of extra knowledge that might speed things up a bit.

Easy, same diet I put my friend on.
3 squares a day, baked or broiled.. NOTHING fried (once I got off fried foods for 3 months 10 years ago now if I eat anything fried my stomach is fucked)

No bacon, ribs, steak, anything fat based or 'beefy'. Eggs (with kraft cheese if you like), toast, small sausage for breakfast.

Snack, fruit.. something creamy

Lunch, sandwich.. low fat mayo, thin slices of turkey or ham, cheese, low fat mayo (try Subway? don't get their drinks or chips though).

Dinner.. chicken, pasta, seafood, rice, try new sauces from the store and have fun with some new concoctions.

Hit the cardio AT LEAST 30mins a day in a single run. No 15mins here, 15mins there.. put the threadmill infront of the television and hit that shit. My machine shows me how many calories I'm burning (well the one at the gym) which is nice. Anyway, hit it once in the morning and once at night. Lose your 2lbs a week and enjoy.

always eat 3 meals a day. your stomach is like a furnace. the more good foods you put in, its going go burn, drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day, i suggest you get fish oil and green tea which is really good, go for a half hour walk. and do whatever other excersises. on a regular day chicken breasts and salads, like i said its a total change of lifestyle cutting out all the garbage. you want a change.

Seriously, I lost 15lbs in the first 2 weeks when I started my Atkins diet. I've been off of it for about 3 months and haven't gained back a single pound. I have been working out 5 times a week and eating balanced meals so that is probably why I didn't blow up after getting back onto carbs. If you want to lose weight fast simply cut carbs out of your diet and you'll shed pounds fast but be careful when you start eating carbs again...you'll blow up like Juicy's head.

yeah 1300 seems kind of low. make sure you eat small meals like every 4 hours... it might take a while for your stomach to adjust but it will happen. also with low calories you might not get all the vitimins you need, make sure you take a daily multivitimin.

Well the fastest unhealthy (and illegal way to lose weight):

Take T3 and Clenbuteral
Drink distilled water (no sodium so no retention)
Don't eat -- anything
To top it off take diuretics.

You're chances of dying from this are pretty good but you should loose a ton of weight fast.

Or you can accept the fact that you have a big ass and eat clean and exercise regularly and loose fat the safe way.

Your choice.

Heather,

did you see a doctor and checked if you have low thyroid? Most of the tips you got are great but if you have thyroid problems and you are unaware of it, you won't lose weight... dropping sweets, juice, drinking mineral water, doing exercise do help of course, but you should sort this out first.

Yet another tip for you... one of my friends also works from home, loves to sleep and put on some weight. She got a puppy from me for her birthday and she is losing weight slowly but it does not come back and she is looking great, the doggie reformed her life style.. worth to give a try

LOL - it's a healthy version of the Atkins diet. Less fat, and more "good" carbs. My sister is on it and has lost 22 lbs in 4 weeks.
