I can also think of reasons it could go the other way, too, because of the amount of rope exposed to force. I doubt either of these are the answer you are looking for, though :) Edit: I see we settled on "c". I guess we were assuming there were no variables such as give or the amount of rope used. Correct - specifically ill-gotten gains . It's one word I will die if I ever use over here :)

Which number is next in this series.
10,4,3,11,15 ...?

14,
1,
17,
12,
None of the above.
and why, unless your answer is non of the above. |

then you wrote the question wrong.
10 pulling one way versus 10 pulling the other way would break a rope much faster than TEN pulling against a tree |

This is beginning to remind me of the old Monty Python 'is this the room for an argument' sketch

I rechecked the question. Did not see error in it.
if 20 men pull on the rope (10 on each end), the stress on the rope will be no greater than if 10 pulled from one end and the other was tied to the tree. The tension on a rope is no greater than the pull at one of its ends. |

Ok no answer for that question.
Correct answer was a. 14 Why: when spelled out, each number in the series is longer than the previous number by one letter. |

Two of the fastest horsemen in the kingdom proposed to the king's daughter. The king did not like either suitor, but wanted to look fair so he suggested a horse race in which the winner would have his daughters hand. The only catch was that the winner would be the person whose horse came in second. The kind was certain the race would never take place because he felt that neither horseman would let the other win. Finally, the king's daughter made a suggestion to the two horsemen that would guarentee a fair race. What did she suggest?

The Monty python ones reminded me of that one.

Have more then 2 horsemen compete in the race.

This is something to do with picking the horse I think - but I don't know what. Either that or a gangbang :)
