There are some very sick people in this world. It could be that the jail commander knew Donny was a sexual predator and then thought he would be able to trust him to keep it quiet in order to enact his own fantasies. It could have been his fantasy (as sick as it is) to watch his female relative get screwed by another man.

I don't know much about Donny other than the little I've read here but it could also be that he is just crazy and came up with this crazy story as revenge.

Usually the latter scenario is the most probable. However that bail amount is very high and it seems unlike the police to go out of their way to charge one of their own without having considerable evidence. Then again it could be that someone making the decisions has a grudge against him too.

It's illegal in the State of California (and most other states for that matter), to record someone without their prior consent. That evidence would not be admissible in court.

Actually in Donny's case religion probably has played a part in making him the fuck up he is today. His father is a minister, I forget what Christian denomination but I think evangelical of some sort - there's a lot of very weird shit to deal with if you're an intelligent kid and Donny is fairly intelligent.

One could also just as easily make the argument that religion probably helped him in that being in the environment he was/is in, caused him to better manage his mental disorder(s).

If i had to bet, I would guess that Donny's father shares the same mental issues that Donny has. Not learned, not the product of environment, but heritable personality traits that all point towards psychopathy (namely megalomania), sociopathy, anti social personality disorder and narcissism. His father may have been 100% sincere in his practice of religion and in his beliefs. Or as i've said, hyper-religiosity can also simply be a symptom of several mental disorders. Donny clearly is not hyper religious or sincere in his religious beliefs. Regardless, they both likely reveled in their ability to get everyone to gather in front of them and listen intently, as they position themselves as Gods anointed representative on earth.

What better place to take refuge for a psychopath or sociopath than by surrounding themselves with a community where "forgiveness is next to Godliness" and where its accepted that we all "sin", we all need forgiveness and its everyone's responsibility to get that person back on track? It's the perfect place for a nutjob to hide in plain sight.

I would guess that Donny found "religion" right after Belinda dumped him and he was already failing in this biz and that what seems to at a minimum, be narcissistic personality disorder drove him to doing something where he could be in the spotlight, be an unchallenged authority and get him more personal attention than he could manage and put himself in a position to manipulate and victimize others.

I don't know the particulars of the recorded conversation if it was used or will be used efc but most states allow one party to record a conversation between himself and another. All states are considered either one party consent or all party consent. Meaning either one or all need to be aware of the recording. Within that, each state has quite a few caveats as to the conditions to which it is and isn't allowed
