Sorry Internet Hippies: SOPA Vote NOT Delayed
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201...l-2012.shtml?r
Despite the fact that Congress was supposed to be out of session until the end of January, the Judiciary Committee has just announced plans to come back to continue the markup this coming Wednesday. This is rather unusual and totally unnecessary. But it shows just how desperate Hollywood is to pass this bill as quickly as possible, before the momentum of opposition builds up even further. |

There absolutely is "due process" as any site accused will be contacted and can file for "relief". You're against it because you don't know what the law even does. Just reporting that a website has a copy of a video is not going to get the site shut down. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...qjuAVE:e11714: |

Are you saying in this new bill, a competitor cannot contact your billers and hosts, accuse you of stealing content, and get your site added to the black list? Are you saying a court is now involved? I can't see anything about that in the news. Your link has expired. So educate me as I clearly misread it. As did the EFF, Google, Facebook etc etc etc You need to get the word out there, bro. |

Wow! Big surprise, other people don't read either and just go on a rant.
Or they do read and then spin it because they have an agenda. The link is posted above; read it for yourself. Read where is says "Relief". How can someone get relief and yet, by some magic, have not gotten "due process"? ![]() |

My god,
we Americans are so fucking naive. If you don't know by now, that this bill has a lot more angles to it then just to defeat online piracy, your an idiot. Down with online piracy? Sure. That's it. Nothing else. None of my other rights infringed? That is NOT what this bill offers. It will set another precedent, and our asses will be wide open for the taking. In the end, we will all be walking around butt naked with clown noses stuck to our cocks.

"the bill encourages private corporations to create a literal target list?a process that is ripe for abuse. Under Section 103 (cleverly entitled the ?market based? approach), IP rightsholders can take action by themselves, by sending notices directly to payment processors?like Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal?demanding that they cut off all payments to the website. Once notice is delivered to the payment processor, that processor has only five days to act.1 The payment processor, and not the rightsholder, is then responsible for notifying the targeted website. So by the time Visa or Mastercard?who will no doubt be receiving many of these notices?processes the notice, informs the website, and the website decides whether to file a counter notice, the five days will almost certainly have elapsed. The website will then be left without a revenue source even if it did nothing wrong." "section 104 of SOPA also allows payment processors to cut websites off voluntarily?even if they haven?t received a notice. Visa and Mastercard cannot be held accountable if they cease processing payments to any site, as long as they have a ?reasonable belief? that the website is engaged in copyright violations of any kind" https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/1...till-blacklist |

Musicians and journalists are against the bill. Not all of them of course, but this would negatively effect many smaller musicians and a few large news paper companies (either Washington post or ny times) journalists have spoken out against it

It still amazes me how stupid people are and that they actually need to watch CSPAN once in a while and read the actual information rather take what the media blows out of proportion. Second this also only retains to Intellectual Property. And only IP is protected under this. They just can't shut you down unless you show proof you own that copyright/IP.

It's funny when you see webmasters trying to articulate the language of a bill, such as this. Everyone thinks they understand and that they know exactly how this bill will be enforced. The very fucked up and ironic part of all this is we (the public/gfy) probably read and argued about the bill more than the people voting for it. Maybe more scary than ironic.
It's bills like this that are destroying America. Just like the defense bill. They are worded so vaguely that abuses can and will occur, and ultimately we're all left with less freedoms, whether it be on the internet or in real life. To me, it seems like these two bills are working together. Limit communication on the internet while at the same time being able to detain people in "real life" without charges or trial. Oppose our corporate run government in such a way that it draws the attention of the public and poof, you're gone. |

Translation : The bill allows what already happens to continue to happen. Paypal already cut your ass off. CC processors will cut your ass off if your content is "wacked". CC processors will cut your ass off for charge backs. Visa cut everyone off without due process until they paid $700. ![]() What is NEW? What is new is that now the government will ask to have your shit cut off for violating laws. Quit posting spin and post the actual law. |

Now, your competitor can report you, and you can get cut off without any judicial process whatsoever.
Now, there will be a blacklist that your competitor can add your name to. etc etc Read it. Then come back and explain why you think those things are good. |

You read bulllshit, I read the law :
http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-1...12hr3261ih.pdf Quote:
Now that's your due process under this bill. What due process do you have now if google deletes your website? NONE! So you are against a law that gives you due process with google if you think you have been deleted because of content piracy. |

The stupidest argument is that this bill limits freedom. Lol freedom to what.....steal???? Again you can clearly see in this thread who is part of the problem and who is a legit producer or content owner who has been stolen from.

The secOnd stupidest argument is that a competitor will be able to have me shut down. Lmao. Good luck with that. Only reason you'd say this is because you don't actually shoot any content and you have no proof that you own what is on your tgp or tube so the content producer can shut you down if they choose to. Looks like some people may have to actually start working to make their own shit instead of living off the backs of producers who are being slaughtered by piracy. Instea of coming out to support a bill that would help those that made you money by allowing you to use their content you are against it leaving them in the dust. F that. It's bout time my hard work was being protected wether you like it or not. Without producers nothing would even exist. So get on board or watch this industry go to 0 with no new work produced and no new models to shoot because they won't get paid what they want. Danielle from annabelleangel stopped working on her site because what she was making was just not worth her showing her shit all over the web. And she is not alone. She saw her income drop from good to nearly nothing in the last year. And forget about opening a new site. Impossible today I don't care who you are. It will get ripped in one day so no one has the need to join. I say let's get these assholes and get back to work!!!

Yes you are.
A few writers made millions on their TV and film projects but most people in the writers guild will not make shit. Writer's don't finance any big film/tv productions. You just want to keep up your secret web site that you never post a link to and will make any argument you think of for that. |

who the hell do you think drove traffic and sales to you and paid for your lifestyle all these years moron?
i regret sending you sales years ago. and i stopped because your content got tired and no one wanted to buy it anymore. all the draconian privacy laws isn't going to make your irrelevant old sites sell any more. Quote:

do you understand how a filibuster works
no matter how many days this goes on they will keep trying to tack amendments that will require hours of discussion until the opposition has enough time to educate the public the hope that they can pass a bill without the normal public scrutiny the last ammendment will be to make the penalty for making a false claim as serious as infringing ie lose all your copyrights if you make a bogus claim. |

No, I'm implying that someone could make false accusations against you under SOPA.
I mean, that's what your argument was, wasn't it? That's what you feared about it right? Having your website shut down without due process based on false claims is the fear right? I don't remember that you argued that you are a violator and it should be allowed. You argued that you are not a violator and would be shut down anyway. At least that's the way I read it. Seems like I'm fucked if I agree with you or not. |

If you think the end game of this bill is anything other than shutting down sites where you can google "avatar steaming" or "beyonce mp3" and be met with thousands of results you're fooling yourself.

They have tried to introduce amendments that wouldn't make it so easy for some random asshole to blackout your website but they have all been rejected. Regardless of what the idiots above say the way the law is written it WILL be abused. If they really wanted to go after the blatant thieves they would have happily added the amendments to prevent abuse. Even if you expect them to iron out the kinks eventually it's still a bullshit law that would cause harm in the meantime. Never mind the fact that it won't help a single damn person here make more money in the ways they are proposing. Never mind the fact that the government has abused every single law of this nature that has been passed in your lifetime. Never mind that free porn will be as prevalent online next year as it is this year regardless of it passing. It's bullshit, through and through.
