![]() I'm amazed that no one has been fired yet over the lack of control in New Orleans. Bush (too bad we can't fire him) needs to fire someone and get someone in to get the job done. Who should he fire? Who isn't doing their job?

In early 2004, as the cost of the conflict in Iraq soared, President Bush proposed spending less than 20 percent of what the Corps said was needed for Lake Pontchartrain, according to a Feb. 16, 2004, article, in New Orleans CityBusiness. On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us."

Bush lied about WMD's. They were adamant there was "no doubt" and that it was "certain" there were WMD's despite the myriad of people saying there weren't any there. I seem to remember satelite photos of specific trucks and camps and facilities where there was "no doubt" and it was an "absolute certainty" that WMDs and chemical compounds were being produced. The administration repeatedly lied about the "imminent threat" to the USA by Iraq. They lied about the connection between Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden. They lied about there being no warnings of the attacks on 9/11/01. He lied about a "fleet of unmanned planes" that were supposed to be used by Iraq to attack us with chemical weapons on our soil. They lied about aluminum tubes, connections to terrorism, about the fact that they have been looking for a reason to attack Iraq since Innauguration Day. As I'm typing this here, he's lying about why he's in Mississippi and not in New Orleans on CNN. Scott McClellan, the press secretary, has been all over the TV trying to cover up the incompetence and lack of action by the Bush White House on Hurricane Katrina by saying "Now is not the time for politics". But meanwhile, the Republican National Committee leader is out there pimping the repeal of the Estate Tax.. er... uh.. I mean "Death Tax" (can't call it an estate tax because that makes it sound like what it is, a tax cut for rich folks, but if we call is a Death Tax the stupid masses will think, "Hey! I could die too, I need to get rid of that tax!"). LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE... And that's just the obvious ones off the top of my head. If you want to put on a matching set of tinfoil hats with me, we can look at some of the way out there lies like lies about who is at Gitmo and why and the like. IMPEACH - To charge (a public official) with improper conduct in office before a proper tribunal. I think it fits a whole range of situations that the Bush White House has muddled, fumbled and plain old lied about over the last 5 years. Unfortunately, it seems like I'm alone and nobody out there in DC has the balls to get the process moving. Sad. But don't listen to me, I must be some Michael Moore loving, liberal whacko. Not just a citizen who has had enough bullshit and is getting mad as hell, but someone with a liberal adgenda. I couldn't possibly be a wife and business woman who is trying to keep my family alive. I couldn't possibly be one of the masses who are struggling as our benefits are cut, our businesses dwindle along with our health and nobody hears our cries for help. It's not a lot of fun for a lot of us right now, but you ask those people in New Orleans (where the president can't be bothered to visit this morning because he's hanging out with Trent Lott and white mayors in Mississippi) if they feel like the White House is supporting them. My situation is bad, but I'm not dying yet. Those people are fucking dying.

The Governor could have called out the National Guard days ago, too. But she didn't. There are all kinds of Federal and non-Federal resources that either weren't deployed or were deployed in other places. 1) FEMA and the Guard are active all over LA, MS, and AL. And all we keep hearing about is New Orleans, because that's the place where the criminals are in charge. 2) New Orleans was already chaos and anarchy once the storm ended. It wasn't that days and days with no water drove them to it. We need to stop blaming the government and actually blame those who caused the violence. 3) If there wasn't an "armed resistance", the evacuations and supply deliveries would have started a lot earlier. The lesson FEMA and Homeland Security have learned is to plan for a military invasion instead of a rescue/relief effort next time. So, New Orleans will lead to a push for greater flexibility to declare martial law and deploy the regular military for combat within the US. Here's hoping that our cities aren't designated for liberation any time soon. ![]() |

The day Katrina hit the US was the day that the Iraqi war and its costs that blocked stronger dykes to protect New Orleans came to take thousands of US civilian casualties.

If (and I doubt it will happen ever) the news media figures out what the fuck they are talking about they might start reporting on the old fuck-ups that messed up this whole flood control plan from the start. You and I also know that until they figure out the difference between a levee and a flood control wall - none of the above will mean anything |

The federal govt is who should be blamed as they did not act fast enough. Hell the Governor declared a national emergency before the storm ever hit yet almost a week later people are still not rescued and out of danger. I do think the local government lacked a strong leader and maybe that could have helped things abit more, but in reality there is only so much the local govt can do. The brunt of the blame IMO lies on the shoulders of the head guys at FEMA, the head guys in the US National Guard and this corrupt fucking Bush administration. I bet if Halliburton was in the bottled water delivery service, we then maybe this admin would have gotten something done.

Editorial blasts federal response
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- The Times-Picayune of New Orleans printed this editorial in its Sunday edition, criticizing the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina and calling on every FEMA official to be fired: An open letter to the President Dear Mr. President: We heard you loud and clear Friday when you visited our devastated city and the Gulf Coast and said, "What is not working, we're going to make it right." Please forgive us if we wait to see proof of your promise before believing you. But we have good reason for our skepticism. Bienville built New Orleans where he built it for one main reason: It's accessible. The city between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain was easy to reach in 1718. How much easier it is to access in 2005 now that there are interstates and bridges, airports and helipads, cruise ships, barges, buses and diesel-powered trucks. Despite the city's multiple points of entry, our nation's bureaucrats spent days after last week's hurricane wringing their hands, lamenting the fact that they could neither rescue the city's stranded victims nor bring them food, water and medical supplies. Meanwhile there were journalists, including some who work for The Times-Picayune, going in and out of the city via the Crescent City Connection. On Thursday morning, that crew saw a caravan of 13 Wal-Mart tractor trailers headed into town to bring food, water and supplies to a dying city. Television reporters were doing live reports from downtown New Orleans streets. Harry Connick Jr. brought in some aid Thursday, and his efforts were the focus of a "Today" show story Friday morning. Yet, the people trained to protect our nation, the people whose job it is to quickly bring in aid were absent. Those who should have been deploying troops were singing a sad song about how our city was impossible to reach. We're angry, Mr. President, and we'll be angry long after our beloved city and surrounding parishes have been pumped dry. Our people deserved rescuing. Many who could have been were not. That's to the government's shame. Mayor Ray Nagin did the right thing Sunday when he allowed those with no other alternative to seek shelter from the storm inside the Louisiana Superdome. We still don't know what the death toll is, but one thing is certain: Had the Superdome not been opened, the city's death toll would have been higher. The toll may even have been exponentially higher. It was clear to us by late morning Monday that many people inside the Superdome would not be returning home. It should have been clear to our government, Mr. President. So why weren't they evacuated out of the city immediately? We learned seven years ago, when Hurricane Georges threatened, that the Dome isn't suitable as a long-term shelter. So what did state and national officials think would happen to tens of thousands of people trapped inside with no air conditioning, overflowing toilets and dwindling amounts of food, water and other essentials? State Rep. Karen Carter was right Friday when she said the city didn't have but two urgent needs: "Buses! And gas!" Every official at the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be fired, Director Michael Brown especially. In a nationally televised interview Thursday night, he said his agency hadn't known until that day that thousands of storm victims were stranded at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. He gave another nationally televised interview the next morning and said, "We've provided food to the people at the Convention Center so that they've gotten at least one, if not two meals, every single day." Lies don't get more bald-faced than that, Mr. President. Yet, when you met with Mr. Brown Friday morning, you told him, "You're doing a heck of a job." That's unbelievable. There were thousands of people at the Convention Center because the riverfront is high ground. The fact that so many people had reached there on foot is proof that rescue vehicles could have gotten there, too. We, who are from New Orleans, are no less American than those who live on the Great Plains or along the Atlantic Seaboard. We're no less important than those from the Pacific Northwest or Appalachia. Our people deserved to be rescued. No expense should have been spared. No excuses should have been voiced. Especially not one as preposterous as the claim that New Orleans couldn't be reached. Mr. President, we sincerely hope you fulfill your promise to make our beloved communities work right once again. When you do, we will be the first to applaud. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/04/tim...ial/index.html

This has nothing to do with Bush, he is just a convenient place for the local and state officials to hang to blame for not doing the things that THEY are actually, and legally, responsible for. And as for sending in Federal troops, etc. The Governer would have to declare Martial law throughout the entire state in order to have legal authority to send in Federal Troops. Declaring a state of emergency merely releases federal funds for state agencies to have access to.
