IBS? - Constant Diarrhea, upstet stomach, nausea.. suggestions?

Ok.. So lately I've been having terrible shits.. 2-3 times a month it seems I get the shits and sometimes its more if I am stressed the hell out (got plenty of that right now)

I was wondering, anyone ever done any herbal colon cleansing or high colonic to reduce IBS?

Anyone who knows me or has worked with me in the past know's I've had a loooooong history of getting the Mud Butt.. its getting to the point where I've gotten sick of this and am willing to do almost anything (even a degrading high colonic) to cure it..

I eat a good diet now, and I try to drink a lot of water.. but I still do booze it up a bit, mostly beer now.. not nearly as much hard alcohol as I used to consume.. but I want to get this fixed, I know I can feel better if I do something to change it..

Sounds like you may have gastritis -- I am no doctor, but you seems to be having classic symptoms. Beer is the worst for it, as the yeast tends to aggravate your digestion.

Colonic. Flush that baby out. Might have a religious experience in the process, too.

Edited to add: Definitely get checked out by a doctor. If they don't find anything, though... opt for the big flush.

Not sure if this will help you, but throwing it out there:

When a virus wiped out the necessary good bacterias in my intestines a few months back, I had to avoid the following until the bacteria all rebuilt (not to mention ingest a vial of billions of bacterial spores daily heh but that's another matter):

- dairy products
- mustard
- any type of spicy food or hot sauces
- anything acidic (vinegar, oranges, etc...)

Though many of the above are very healthy or needed items, maybe try avoiding them for a bit and see if it helps.

Media,

I also highly suggest you go see a doctor and get some tests done. Do not self diagnose. It could be more serious than IBS.

My friend has had what you are describing and his issues were due to gall bladder but then I have had other friends with these issues that had problems in the colon or the stomach.

Again, go see the doctor and let them run some tests, and please go see more than one specialist. Once you are aware of the issue then you can use herbal remedies and diet to resolve if the problem is not too serious.

How dare you say such things about beer!!!! No really that sucks ass.. Alot of these symptoms do seem dead on to that... I used to drink Patron Silver like a motherfucker.. 3-4 double shots a day on the rocks.. (I know that its terrible to use in excess like that, I had a stressful year with divorce and lawsuit) BUT I've cut way back now.. maybe I need to go with something a little less yeasty..

Spicy foods.. FUCK, thats another thing, I eat crazy ass spicy foods, I can chow down on a habenero pepper with no problem up front, then out the back its pure hell..

So maybe I gotta cut out all the hot sauces and peppers now too.. damn..

Thanks Tim! Appreciate the info...

I would go if I still had health insurance.. Gotta get it again in a couple months.. Have to wait till my ex wife tells me which plan to get for my daughter so I can do that and add myself onto it as well..

I miss having insurance... So until then maybe I need to do the following:

1. Cut out spicy foods
2. Cut down even more on beer and booze
3. Cut out my dairy for a while, cuz this does sometimes cause me to have explosions..
4. Start taking more good bacteria pills.
5. Try to stress alot less.. lol good luck with that one..

NP. But you gotta go see a doctor mate. If you do have gastritis, then it must be managed and address. Good-luck

Try baking soda. The instructions are on the box. Also you should cut down on your smoking. Nicotine plays hell on the digestive system.

Number 3 stands out at me... you could just be lactose intolerant. Mild or extreme you would have simliar symptoms. I was having similar issues, as well as mind numbing acid reflux. Doctor tried a myriad of options to fix the problem including nexium to cure it. years later, after switching doctors, went back for a prescription refill and checkup, and doctor asked me to just cut dairy for a month, which I did, and everything became a nonissue.

Until you get insurance it is a great idea to start eliminating certain foods from your diet and check results.

1. Dairy
2. Acidic foods
3. Spicy foods
4. Fatty foods

I recommend Calcium (this is how antacids really work), and get yourself some probiotic pills from the vitamin store.

Try eating more raw foods (vegetables) but stay away from tomatoes. Eat grilled foods with just a bit of sea salt. Use only a small amount of olive oil

I hope some of this info helps and good luck man.

You could have about anything with those symptoms. You need to find a good doctor who will do an allergy blood test, and all the other pertinent tests. Watch out if the guy just prescribes something. You need to figure out the issue not put a band-aid one it. Look for a MD who understands healthy diet.

Until then go on a very bland diet and slowly introduce foods, give yourself 1 to 2 days for a reaction.

Keep away from:
-Dairy as you said. Also egg allergies are very common. You need blood allergy test to determine.
- No alcohol, caeffine, energy drinks.
- No soda, candy, or sugar
- Watch out for high sugar fruits or tons of carbs
- No fast fatty foods.

Instead
- Tons of vegetables, especially leafy greens
- Tons of chicken and fish
- A little fruit, apples, pears, low sugar ones.
- A little brown rice.
- Some grains, some people are allergic to gluten.
- Drink water, lots of it.

At least when you get to the doctor you might have some idea on what is causing it.

Get tested for Celiac Disease.

About 1% of people have this, including myself. However many are unaware until it's too late. Symptoms vary, and I'm not certain you have it based on your description, but if you do have it and you continue to eat gluten (poison to a Celiac) you'll likely end up with bowel cancer. There is now a simple blood test to diagnose this.

And stay away from any of these new-age hippie Eugene doctors. So many quacks here.

Try taking a pro-biotic pill. It's helped me a lot. Right now I'm taking sustenex. It tastes AWFUL.. like just the 3 seconds it's in my mouth before I can wash it down the pipes, but it seems to be helping me a lot. It's much easier than eating yogurt or anything like that. Plus, bulk up on the fiber. Eat more fruit and veg.

Take probiotics. A good probiotic supplement will have way more active cultures than you could ever get ingesting yogurt.

Also quality probiotics are stored in refrigeration. Don't buy anything off the shelf, go to a health food store and get something out of the refrigerated case.

It doesn't sound like you're sick enough to have to get the VSL3 like we were talking about in the other thread, it's pretty pricey, but for sure start taking some probiotics. It's can only help.

Also like others have said, cut back on the beer. I don't know about you but I grew up knowing about "beer shits". Beer- like ribs and mexican food- gives people mud butt. Dems the breaks.

If that's you in your pic, you don't look like you have high-risk heritage for celiac ... it's more often a problem for people of a pasty white scottish/english background ... but I don't know your family tree, so I'm suggesting it anyway.

If you think it might be tied to your drinking, well, beer has gluten in it. The damage caused by it can also cause you to have problems with dairy and other things, but those symptoms will get better once your guts have time to heal.

Hope that's not your diagnosis; makes for a boring menu, and figuring out what's safe to eat can be tricky.

As long as it's clean water and a little bit of salt is added (to prevent mass water absorption through your intestines) you can be feeling as good as new in a matter of an hour or two.

I don't know why but I've had symptoms of IBS for the longest time and I did eat healthy. I felt backed up probably most of my life. The fear of having the shits at an inopportune moment really had me worrying, which increases IBS, and completes a circle which can be hard to get out of. So if I am not regular during the week I will take one or two of them to make sure things are flowing smoothly.

If you really think you have a health related issue, go see your doctor anyway, it won't hurt.

Eat a lot of fruit (not too close to your sleeping time) like apples, bananas, other fruit with high fibre. Sooner or later your stomach will have to reduce the symtoms of IBS because you have to much fibre and its hard to totally liquefy that shit.

I eat a good diet now, and I try to drink a lot of water.. but I still do booze it up a bit, mostly beer now.. not nearly as much hard alcohol as I used to consume.. but I want to get this fixed, I know I can feel better if I do something to change it..
I'm kind of in your same boat, though realistically I should have gone to the doctor years ago (my episodes involve EXTREME colon pain i.e. 7 or 8 on 1-10 scale that usually is relieved with a BM, but coupled with my father having Crohn's I really should be extra careful). Lucky for me, my episodes have occurred less since I had significant weight loss 2-3 years ago and have mostly curbed my horrible eating habits. I've noticed however that eating excessive junk food and stress both seem to increase the chances of it. I'm glad at least one of those I have control over, though unfortunately I do binge eat now and then anyways. I wish the pains would start the moment I THOUGHT about binging because then I certainly wouldn't, lol.

Anyways, as others have said you probably should get it checked out. As I mentioned, my father has Crohn's and granted out of lack of money he let it get out of hand a number of years back, he had to go through a series of 3 surgeries to get better...during that period something happened such that he had a tear and was bleeding internally and if not for emergency surgery would have died within hours. Before he finally went through the 1st surgery in that time span (which was his 2nd span of surgeries for Crohn's, the first being a couple decades earlier), he was living alone in Arkansas in such bad shape you have no idea...he had gotten to the point where he could barely eat anything and would sometimes go days without eating in order to avoid extreme pain. His body was actually starting to decompose (nothing like pissing black ooze and knowing it's your organ matter breaking down), was extremely frail (was in his mid 50s and looked like a sickly 70-80 whereas he had previously looked about his age and now that he's better and 60, looks about his age again thankfully), and was probably within days of dying had he not FINALLY acted on it. Sure California taxpayers ultimately ended up paying for it as he was fairly broke, but at least know that it directly resulted in saving his life.

So yea, having said all that, I know I need to get checked out, BUT at least what I CAN say is that engaging in healthier habits (staying active, eating better, not constantly overeating) that maintain a healthier body has helped me tremendously and I don't have nearly the amount of IBS episodes I used to when I was a behemoth, drank shitloads of soda and ate shitloads of fast food. So if anything, if you have any bad eating habits or are pretty inactive throughout your day, I'd suggest addressing those things. Cleanses are nice and all but if you have underlying habits that are getting your body to the point where it's doing stuff it shouldn't, those are what you need to address.

Important message about smoking cigs and Crohns-

I have friends, two sisters. The younger sister has had crohns since before we became friends, was diagnosed when she was little. The older sister stopped smoking almost a year ago and started having symptoms a few months ago. She went to the gastro and they diagnosed her with ileitis crohns. They told her that smoking tobacco somehow had frozen the disease in it's tracks and by quitting smoking she allowed it ti rear it's head.

I know this sounds crazy, but you can read about it here:
http://ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/ibdfaqs/a/smokingguts.htm

They have Crohns because of genetics, but pretty wild about cigs being the reason the older sister didn't have any symptoms for so many years. She's lucky her symptoms aren't severe, but she's so mad she quit smoking.

It could be a bunch of different things, mine turned out to be IBS but it was misdiagnosed as colitis for a while.

You can try all kinds of things, but the wrong thing can hurt you as much as help.

It sucks not to have insurance.....but I hope you'll sincerely consider this.

Take what you spend for one week on spicy foods, beer and booze - and use it to go to a gastroenterologist. It may or may not be all you need - but when I found the right guy, I only needed one visit and I was fixed.....$250 and I was done (except for the monthly cost of Miralax and probiotics).
There are times that you can wait to go see the doctor. This isn't one of them.
I really hope you'll consider it.

i was going to suggest yogurt with active cultures, but i guess the probiotic is the same times 10..
also eat some raw foods like vegetables, they aid the digestive process.

avoid processed foods altogether.
