China is not Iraq with a paper miltary, they also own a large amount of the US government debt. THe US will back down on this one and try to talk it out.They dont want to fuck with China.

I taught English in China for almost two years, but that was a long time ago. China's military buildup is not American fear mongering, maybe 20 years ago they were what you described, but you clearly haven't been paying attention to their military budget. They are developing a high tech military, including an air force and navy. If they're not ready to take Taiwan yet, which almost everyone who studies foreign affairs agrees they are, they will be within the next two years. This is well known. You're talking like it's 1985 and they're still driving around on bikes. China has developed faster than any nation in the history of mankind.

The PLA is a political force that is meant to support the Party. 99% of what they do is keep people from spitting gum at Tian an Men or keep the peasants in line. Currently there is a huge problem with the division of rich and poor in China and some areas are not really in government control any longer. Except for a few specialist units the PLA is a police force.

To sum it up China is not yet capable of projecting military power and there is no credible threat to Taiwan now. In time yes, but not for many years. And I don't think they will go this route...Taiwan is a Chinese ethnic nation and in time the borders will blur. The people at the top know winning Taiwan is not a military struggle.

Of course you are wrong again...eh Richy boy? The only reason the pentagon is concerned about China's military buildup is concern for Taiwan. We have had a defense treaty with Taiwan since Taiwan was called Formosa. At the present time China does not have the military capability of invading Taiwan...modernization of their military and an increase in naval vessels would give them the capability...without intervention from the US.

Doubtful. Just like with the USSR... The Cold War was largely a hoax. The average hillbilly in Kentucky was better equipped to fight a war than the average Soviet Soldier. If China made a move on Taiwan, I doubt America would use military force against China. America can't afford the consequences.

I think there would be a lot of talk and political rhetoric, maybe America would give Taiwan some weapons to help it fight off China, but I don't see America getting militarily involved, the consequences are just too great.

I think whether America would ultimately "win" in the end is irrelevant. I don't think the average American is willing to suffer the consequences of such a war just to ensure Taiwan's independence.

You didn't read it very well, they're not saying they're just going to attack the US. They're saying that if the US attacks them when they invade Taiwan, they'll have no option but to use nukes.

The US does not have anything to lose from N Korea.. its a regional issue, not a global issue. That is why China, Russia, Japan and Korea have been taking the lead roles in dealing with them. N Korea does not have missiles that can even reach the US and the local governments have more influence over N Korea and stronger ties - and N Korea wants the US to participate only to continue blackmailing the US into feeding them and sending them oil. The US is trying to stay out of it so that they cannot continue their blackmail scam. Thats they only reason they need nuclear weapons to begin with... not for defense or offense, but for blackmailing the world into propping up their failed Stalinist regime with more aid.

If China attacked Taiwan its not a forgone conclusion that they would win. Even without U.S. help, its possible Taiwan would emerge victorious IF they had the will to fight, which is somewhat doubtful. But history has shown over and over again that the side with better technology wins, and the Chinese military, like most conscript armys, is barely a notch above Sadam's legions.

Actually that is incorrect. In the Arab/Israeli wars, the arabs were always beat by Isreal, and badly. In the last conflict Moscow called Washington to threaten intervention unless the Israrel pulled back from humiliating the arabs any further.
