Sorry man. I had a friend of the family kill himself driving drunk. Luckily that was the extent of it - it could have been really much worse.

edit: no 50 post for something tragic and sad.

Every 20 seconds, a person in the United States has a heart attack. At least 250,000
people die of heart attacks each year before they reach a hospital. We know what causes most heart attacks. Should the government make Big Macs illegal or should folks understand the consequences of making them their dietary staple? Our government only prohibits pot because it's easier for people to grow their own pot than make their own booze, so booze is the bigger tax cash crop. Same with cigarettes. Yet both of those are tremendous health risks while marijuana's is negligible at best. Madness indeed.

This is a highly inappropriate place for this debate, if you'd like to explore it you or I should start a separate thread

The other day you were complaining that the new airline rules require that you remove your jacket for inspection, but that impedes on personal freedoms. And now you're calling for the banning of drinking and smoking? Puhleaze...

Nobody is ever allowed to leave my house drunk, or even with a couple beers in them. No excuses. It's not allowed. Period. And everyone knows that. If you want to drink, you're crashing on the couch.

This very simple rule based on RESPONSIBILITY would save all of those very unfortunate deaths that happen every year. I'm not giving up my Jack because some fuckstick has no responsibility and doesn't care about others.

Unfortunate situation Donovon, I'm sorry for your loss.

We feel for you and her family. Death is very bizarre. Seeing somebody brimming with life and now knowing she's silent forever. I'm sure you can still see her smile and hear her voice when you think about her. We should try to make the world just that much safer for somebody else so that they don't end up like her. If she could talk, I think that's one of the things she would want most.

There is no excuse for the idiocy of driving drunk.

I'll be the first to say I don't want the government to STOP anyone from drinking or smoking... however, DO IT AT HOME!!!!

It should be illegal to do either in public places and to be caught driving while drunk should automatically be treated as attempted murder.

But as I type this just a few blocks from my house the local bar just bought the plot next door to expend their parking lot. This baffles me. The cops should sit outside EVERY bar, EVERY night and flag EVERY car coming out of there. 98% will be shit faced, and the 2% who are not should be happy that the government cares enough to check everyone. Of course this is a pipe dream, but something needs to be done.
