Personally, I am in favor of a flat tax that is not a sliding scale. No matter how much or how little you make, its the same rate.

Flat tax would never, ever, ever work. To equal the amount of money our government rakes in(and we do need that, and even more after recent happenings), everyone would have to get taxed more than the poor to middle class people can afford. Capitalism + flat tax = economic collapse.

Yes but the rich will make more money because the poor people will be able to afford luxury items such as pornography. Rich people are rich because they're cheap. You think they'll spend the money from tax cuts? Fuck no. A tax cut for a poor or middle class person means they get to take a vacation or if they're losers, buy some paysite memberships

I think Kerry will just ride out the presidency. Nothing in his long career in the Senate demonstrates that he will actually change anything in the country. (He hasn't done jack shit in the Senate)

So it'll just be another 4 years, but it'd be better then another 4 with Bush at the helm.

All these guys that run for pres is a joke. THey have never woked a honest days work in there life in the real world. They never had to worry about if they call off sick one day that they wont be able till pay rent next week. never had to worry about childcare and medical insurance and the unemployment rate. Shit will never be right until there is a REAL workin man that gets in for prez. How can you say whats right for people when you never walked the walk!

Government is really simple - I should run for president.

If this country didnt spend so much money, we wouldnt need to pay 30% of our wages to it in taxes.

If we drasticly cut spending, we could run this country in the black. The federal government has gotten way too big. It was orginally intended only to protect the nations borders from invasion and to uphold the consitution and nothing else. Now it has gotten itself into everything from spam prosecution to tree planting.

When I say drasticly cut spending, I mean:

- Disband NASA completely.
- Bring all of our troops home - and I dont just mean Iraq. No more of this police man for the world bullshit.
- Cease participation in the United Nations, which does nothing for us yet somehow we always end up footing thier bills.
- Elminate welfare, food stamps and other products of socialism.
- Stop funding for all government "giveaway" programs like art grants and all this other crap.
- Cap the salary of ALL government employees at $35,000.00 per year.
- Make ALL elected posts within government on ALL levels non-paid, volunteer positions.
- Make social security contributions voluntary.
- Eliminate the tens of thousands of non-productive, over-paid government employees in the agencies mentioned above.
- Get rid of the Ad Council, which is an agency that uses public money to buy advertising time from the media to run various feel good commercials. It is a roundabout way of bribing the media.
- Make extensive use of voluntary convict labor from non-violent felons. Allow them to earn credit on thier sentances for working without compensation of any kind on building roads, painting bridges, etc. It is possible to rehabilitate certain people (others are simply a lost cause) but we have GOT to get out of the business of warehousing people.
- Legalize drugs. Yes, thats right. All of them. No only will our law enforcement system be less burdened withdrug cases and no more war on drugs but people woulnt be killing each other over something that is avaliable for $9.95 at your local 7-11. THIS is the soultion the gang problem people talk about.

If all of these steps were done, we could reduce the amount of taxes people pay by 75%. The government has turned into one big massive spending machine. A flat tax could work if the system is brought back under control.

but rich people tend to employ more people than poor people do, so I see no reason to keep jacking their tax rate as all they'll do is lay people off to make up the difference...

a flat tax is a great idea...my only problem with a flat tax is what % do we set? Will congress just keep raising that flat tax higher each year?

Edwards grew up pretty poor himself. Kerry's family had money and he could of gotten out of Nam I am sure, but chose to go over there, took a few bullets, got a silver star for valor, bronze star, 3 purple hearts, etc.

Your list is too long. Make it real easy: Government is supposed to protect the borders, provide a stable currency, and negotiate foreign affairs. END. All other issues should be handled by the states. If you do not like an oppressive state (California, New York, Massachusetts, etc.) you can move to another state that is more to your liking. Currently the tax rate on upper incomes is so high, you need to leave the country and give up your citizenship to get rid of it.

Bush is always on vacation. His life is just big vacation that we the people are footing the bill for. He spends more in one month on fine food than I have spent in the last 10 years on rent. Last year, he spent most of his time flying around campaigning for his party and trying to fill congress with GOP lackys like himself.

I havent had one for five years. Thats going to change this year. I am gonna go on a three-week, 4,000 mile road trip the first three weeks in July. Never been out west except the few times I flew to LAX - I didnt see much. This time I am gonna see every inch of it.

Oh yeah - I am planning to run for a city council seat in a couple of years just for the hell of it. And I do plan to practice what I preach - I will not cash any of my salary checks written out to me by the city.

Civil servants should be just that - sevants. When our founding fathers created politicans, they werent trying create jobs. The idea was that you'd hold office for one or two terms and then resign. Good leadership practices voluntary term limits. Something this town has never seen - most of our current officals (except the mayor - she lost because she's an idiot) are multi-term crooks.

I strongly belive that public service should not be compensated except for documented out of pocket expenses - it should be a service to the community and not the community servicing you.

Under that plan, the country would be absolutely wealthy. Everyone would be able to expand their businesses drastically, and the rest of the world would be left third world, because they can`t help themselves.

Private schools would prevail, and every responsible person in the country, would responsible for helping their own kids avoid the messes of drug abuse and insecurity. Rather than have the government mapping out your life for you.

Of course there would be as much low-life scum as there is now, but they would be " for each their own ". And PRIVATE SECTOR rehab clinics would be available for these people, probably on a non-profit basis funded by volunteers and good hearted donatees.

Life without a government would be good. Put the Government back on the borders and back in control of threats, not out to police the world.
