I am not disagreeing with any of you that a BMW or Porcshe or 350 Z are better cars. They weigh about 1500 pounds more too. And for the record I could afford a much more expensive car but that is not the point. The point is that America, the most innovative country in the world has for the first time created a machine that is the fastest production car every made for under 20 thousand dollars. I can appreciate this so I bought one. It was an easy sale. And for those of you that areskeptical and say the car handles like shit etc I suggest you drive a neon srt4 first and then come here and give your comments. The car has the same size tires as the Z and weighs about 1300 pounds less. Trust me it is a very well balanced and good handling car. Anyone want to race?

I actuaslly think this tuner car thing is pretty cool. It is not my flavor of performance but it reminds me of when me and all of my friends were out finding anything that had a V* in it and just building the shit out of it.

Right now the Focus SVT, Neon SRT, Subaru, Mitsu Evo are the Mustangs, Camaros Chargers, and chevelles of todays youth.

Although I am sad to see the rumbling of the V8 moving on to the high price bracket the spirit of the muscle car is still alive and well.

This is the exact philosophy detroit had when the muscle car revolution was started. Take a basic commuter car strip it of all the frills, bump up the horse power and they will line up at the door to buy and go lay black marks on pavement....sounds like Detroit and Japan are going old school to me......fuck the analysts lets get back to selling cars that are fun for the kids...i love it

Jim, I think it is revolutionary. Just like the mustang cobra is. For example, the cobra has 400 horsepower for under 35 grand. No othere car can match that. If you want 400 hp in a car other than the ford you have to spend at least 50 grand. It puts that kind of performance in the reach of a lot of folks that would other wise only dream about it. Just like the little noen Srt :-)

the srt-4 actually handles great. if you've driven it, which i doubt you have, and you say it handles like shit, its surely the nut behind the wheel(THE DRIVER). you did what most bad drivers do though, went out and bought a better performing car to make up for your lack in driving skills

most of you "car buffs" are such haters. you ragged me out about one lap, and holy shit, i came in 13th overall out of 84 cars in a totally bone stock 27k piece of ricer crap(evo8) :D

You've got one fucking weird grandma. The Neon is a little sports car, with a predominantly young male and female customer base. The car is small and hard for older people to get in and out of. It also lacks a lot of the luxery features older people usually go for...that's why you see so many grannies in Caddilacs. That and they can crash their big ugly boat cars into your little sports car and only kill you. God I hate old people.

It's German engineering. Chrysler is now owned by the Germans. My dad, brother, uncle, aunt, and several other relatives work at one of their plants. Their union doesn't get on the "Buy American" bandwagon anymore since they are a fucking German company located in America now. Not to mention Chrysler moved most of their jobs to Mexico. I can prove it because I drove the cobra just before I bought this none. The cobra is fast, very fast. I had a turbo porsche and I can tell you that the cobra accelerates just as fast as that 400 plus hp porsche. The cobra is def doing 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds. And for just 35 grand nothing can touch it.

but when i pull up next to some fag punk in a riced out honda or 5 liter mustang and i see a cop somewhere at the lights, ill rev my engine and get him to race me, light goes green, he takes off, i cruise slow... then the blue and red lights go on..

Oh let me start the fun.

What's the trims on that t3/t4? Turbonetics or Garrett? What exactly is "bored," or do you mean ported? Weird how a full Garrett style turbo is never bored, ala 5-bolt Ford Exhaust housings.

Also, how are you bolting that turbo up? I wasn't under the impression Greddy made a turbo header for Honda's. It'd be really foolish to put down a N/A parts list for a FI'd car. ;)

What type of engine management is it running? How much boost was required to make 357whp? What octane gas was used? Was your AFR monitored?

Now, just so I don't ruin this thread completely, the Neon SRT-4 is great. I've been modifying 4cyl turbo cars for about 5-6 years now, so I know all too well about the addiction and mod-ability of these cars.

They've been running from 13.8-14.2 bone stock, right around 102mph. That's enough to hang or beat a stock C5 vette, with a less than fluent driver.

With a few mods, expect trap speeds around 105mph, which will be loads of fun. The car runs out of injector at that point, and it would greatly benefit from more fuel anyhow.

Mopar is releasing staged performance kits here soon that will allow up to 300hp (220hp was claimed stock, but cars are dyno'ing AT LEAST that high), so the 300hp will likely be low 300whp level, and well over 112mph traps. These come with warranties and will be amongst the most fun you can have in a 4door.

you're talking here like a lot of these options are special to this model of neon. they're not. the dodge "engineers" didn't remove all that crap from the car. i worked at a dodge dealer, and i've had friends that have owned them. basic neons are very screwy, the 4 door models do NOT have power rear windows... this has been part of the car since the beginning. they didn't cut costs here. look at a lot of mainline cars today, they don't have a key hole in the passenger door. it's common practice now. the basic neon does not have cruise control. if you look at a basic neon, i really doubt you'll find much that they "cut out" for cost concerns on this model. so, basically your cost concerns are null. it's a base model neon, with a body kit and a turbo. so, they really didn't "save money and put it into performance parts".

how american do you think that car is really? i'd venture that motor is made by mitsubishi motors. dodge & mits have been making things for each other for a long time, i can remember back to the dodge raider.

not bad times though for a little car like that. i've seen better, cheaper. friend of mine put 500hp nitrous on a stock 2dr neon. ran about 5 runs, and blew. fast though

not bad times, but i wouldn't go flaunting around all the gearheads and tuners how much better it is. find a z28 with a $300 chip and you're eating dust
