If you like windows and don't want to change then stay PC. If you are up for a change, and just want things to work simply, try Mac. I have found that quite a few people that heckled Mac owners for years have tried it and liked it. I wouldn't consider myself very tech savvy, and I know people that are, that find Mac restrictive. But for the rest of us who just want to fire up the laptop in the morning and work without issues, Mac is great.
It's funny, as people are talking about viruses, I have a Macbook (used Mac since 1995) my partner has an HP PC. Both purchased at the same time. His has already been back once for repair, and right now is being restored for having a virus. Mine has never had an issue. He heckles me all the time "ooh.. I guess the mighty Mac doesn't have that problem" I just smile and say "guess not" I also have a 10 yr old Emac at home that has never once had a problem other than having to upgrade RAM.

It's not just because there are less Macs that there are less viruses, but also because OSX is more secure, presumably in large part because it's based on the (Mach) Unix kernel. Also most malware is probably just script kiddies making variations of existing (Windows) 'viruses'.
Macs do get 'viruses' (trojans/malware) though, which is why Apple dropped their claim that Macs are virus free. |

I'm having a garage sale and just sold an 2009 21'' iMac for $650 - guy didn't even try to talk me down. Might come back for the $500 2008 Macbook Pro.
Both of these have been sitting collecting dust. Was suprised to see how much people were buying and selling them for on Craigslist. Gotta like a machine that holds keeps some value. Even if it's just perceived value to the buyer. |

Mac
Once you go MAC, you never go back
Oh where have you heard a similar quote? I totally love my MACs. As i said, there are a couple of programs no MAC guy has realized he'd make money, by creating a MAC program similar to the Windows equivalent. I even talked to a guy who did a Windows program, he was "what's MAC?" I'm not even asking for a free copy. I just need a working program you'll make millions off of and all you can say say is "Huh." Even begged a MAC software specialist. |

Programs
Why is it my Windows Office QuickBooks 97 works better than any newer Windows version or ANY MAC version?
No matter what QB says, you can't upgrade. I worked for a CPA firm, we had to have every version of QB on our computer to do year-end reports/taxes, as QB will only recognize a specific issue of QB. QB for MAC, total joke. Business opportunity. Write some great MAC programs. |

That is one of the reasons why Macs run so well. The hardware is specifically designed, put together and tweaked to run with the OS and visa versa. I see it everyday at NETbilling, where we have more than 50 Windows PCs and Macs running in our office.

I run mac and pc.
One thing that was really upsetting was upgrading from "snow leopard" to "Lion" and breaking a lot of the programs, including parallels that had windows running. The iCal (calendar) integration in with mountain lion is priceless. |

Or a MacMini for half the price - add your own monitor and keyboard.
An HDMI monitor for under $200. New MacMinis you can upgrade RAM yourself, without secret tools. |

It's not his fault Apple won't allow you to build your own. 2x the price was an obvious exaggeration to make a point, but it turns out you're paying 1.7x the price. Pat yourself on the back.

- Windows is just not that good of an operating system anymore. - Technical problems require you to make many phone calls or do lots of digging to get to the actual manufacturer. - Most items in PC's are OEM, meaning the company you bought the machine from will not support you. You have to go to find the company of the specific faulty item to get support. - Windows too is the OEM version, meaning Microsoft will not provide you with support unless you pay for it. (Crazy!) Of course you could go with a brand name like HP and save money buying it from Best Buy, but guess what. They almost always come loaded-down with dozens of pre loaded programs that all load on boot and all sit in ram and slow down your brand new "fast" machine. Don't think Best Buy or HP will help you remove all that shit either. Mac users aren't trying to beat you up over this issue. I have been a PC/Windows guy forever. Mac for the money is simply better. Mac's : - Are fast - Work perfectly. I mean perfectly. I really mean perfect-leeeee. - Have great, fast, really really fast, support from Apple. 1 Call. 1 Website. Fast. - Seem to have better designed software. You can drag and drop anything to anything almost. - Make networking a snap. - Talk to my other devices. My Macs talk to my iphone and my apple TV. I can share music with Tracy. I can start a movie on my mac, continue watching on my iphone, and finish watching on Apple TV. I can add a new appointment in my calendar and it updates my iphone calendar instantly, wirelessly, effortlessly. How easy Macs are to use is years ahead of how each a windows pc is to use.

Why would they though? It wouldn't save the consumer much money, but it would cost Apple alot more in support. Plus quality control would drop too.

I used to be the support staff for my parents (who are not tech savvy at all, Mom barely knows where the power button is and loses the cursor frequently) and had to field the weekly tech questions about why their computer does this, or wont do that, or getting some weird error message, or Dad tried to install some program and now something won't work. So when it came time for them to buy a new computer, I suggested that they go with a Mac. The only time I get questions now are for Printer/ISP issues. It's saved me a lot of time, and their Mac is now 6 years old and it's basically for surfing the net, skyping and printing photos.

Not sure what you mean by comparable monitors. In my sample I simply picked a monitor equal to the Apple Cinema Display. About premade PC's only my very first was premade. I have built my own computers for about 10 years now. It is not necessarily cheaper but I get the quality I am after, and a PC that is not preinstalled with all sorts of crap. Not that I would ever buy one, but just for the fun of it I tried to configure a HP workstation, to see what I would be able to have for the same price as the Mac Pro listed in my other post. ![]() ![]() With the 20% eCoupon code the total price is $10,749 vs $10,348 for the Mac Pro. A quick compare: Mac: 2 x 3.06GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (12 cores) HP: 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2650 20M Cache, 2.00 GHz (16 cores) Difference: New-gen 16-core Xeon cpu vs old 12-core Mac: 64GB of DDR3-1333 SDRAM (8x8) HP: 128GB of DDR3-1600 SDRAM (16x8GB) Difference: Double up on memory Mac: 512GB solid-state drive + 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive HP: 300GB solid state drive + 2 x 600GB 15k RPM SAS Difference: Smaller SSD but better 2nd drives Mac: ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB HP: NVIDIA Quadro 5000 2.5GB Difference: Dated ATI card vs proffessional high-end 3D card (card is $1750 at Newegg) Mac: Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) HP: HP Promo ZR30w 30-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor A tad bigger screen but no real difference. One can do their your own conclution, but I am sure most not wearing iGlasses can see Apple do their utmost to take peoples money. |

I still use Windows 7 on my PC and on our Accounting mac machine (running Parallels). Windows 7 is excellent, I agree. I still think OS/X is better. I am speaking from experience as I use both. No, just Fast. You can't compare hardware speeds because the hardware is not the same. The only true way to compare is if all hardware is exactly the same. No, I said runs PERFECTLY (FOR ME). I can't speak for others. Of course there will always be issues with any hardware and software. What I am saying is that I have virtually no problems with mine. The only problem I had was getting 2 iMac27's to work as a single desktop. A single phone call to Apple had the solution for me in less than 5 minutes. *That* is service, and that is peace of mind. No. No problems for me. MEEEEEE. I am speaking for myself, MPGdevil. Do you own a Mac? Are you speaking from experience? I have both PC's and Macs. Alright. You are losing out on a product that you might actually like by closing your mind off to it. Thats too bad.

Sure it may be fast. If I was to use my computer for 3D/CAD or any heavy hardware dependent work, I would choose to build my own PC though with newer and better (faster) cpu, memory and graphics for the same price. You should be able to compare render times between the two systems. For most daily work you would not notice any difference though. Quote:
There are more PC users with problems compared to Mac because the number of users are about 9:1. Having PC problems isn't necessarily a reason to chose Mac though. No I do not own a Mac and have not tried OSX. I might like it but I doubt I will ever end up with one. Partly because of their prices (I think they screw over their customers), and partly because I have always loved to build my own systems. Every summer I upgrade my PC with new hardware, so I need the flexibility. Quote:
I have owned both the first iPad and iPhone3 GSM. I was impressed with both since it was my first experience with a tablet and smart phone. Last year I then wanted to try an Android device and bought the Samsung Galaxy S2, and suddenly the iOS looked static and boring to me. A lot of more options to personalize the phone and the whole UI experience was as fluid as my iPhone. At the end of the year I will most likely buy a Windows Phone 8 and a Windows Surface Pro tablet. A lot of people think the interface is ugly, mock Microsoft and hope they fail. I like trying out new things and just the opposite I hope they get success. The more competition the better for all us consumers, whatever it is iOS, Android or Windows. |
