it's worth it to me. Depends on what you like and what you use the computer for I guess.

The iMacs are getting refreshed soon and the new versions should be released sometime around Sept/Oct according to rumors. If you can put it off I'd wait until then.

Just get a MacBook. Then you have a nice laptop that you can also use as desktop.

I've been using my MacBook for years, both as laptop and as desktop (with keyboard, mouse and monitor). That way you just need one machine.

I bought an iMac this year and it's pretty badass. I do think it's a bit overpriced though. If you're not opposed to using windows it may be worth checking out some competing PCs to look for one with the same specs but cheaper.

If you do get an iMac, wall mount it ;)

One of the nicest computers you can buy yourself is the Apple iMac 27". It is simply amazing. Not only is it fast and slick, but it has by far the most amazing display ever made.

I have 2 of these on my desk both running Mac Mountain Lion. If you are used to Windows and nurvous about getting a Mac, don't be. At first it is very similar to Windows, but you'll soon realize that it is much nicer and easier to use.

Tracy, who takes care of accounting, runs both Mac OS/X and Windows 7 at the same time on hers. She has it configured to run Windows as a window itself. You won't believe it but it runs perfectly. I love it.

I used to use PC's forever but now almost never. Its that good.

The only complaint I have is the size of the mouse. I am 6'3" and have large hands and I find the mouse to be smaller than I would like. But who cares because the mouse is amazing, can be configured for 1 or 2 button operation, and is multi-touch sensitive allowing you to control your Mac with gestures (which is awesome!).

Buy a mac buy a mac buy a mac.

I've been using PC's since 1990 and a few years ago I decided to get the 27" iMac mainly for video editing. I messed around with it a little and then it sat on my desk for a few months collecting dust before I took some time to learn it. Since then I bought a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air for Chica.

Mac's make PC's look like junk. I can't open a browser without getting some kind of virus but haven't had a single issue with a Mac and it doesn't even have an anti-virus program.

I still have a PC to run one program that isn't available for Mac's yet and if I didn't need that then I would shit can the PC.

I agree 100%. You will be amazed at how well all of the apple computers run and keep running. I just upgraded my 8 year old Mac pro only because it is slow now in comparison. I still have a running Mac g4 tower (about 12 years old). That still runs perfect too. They are amazing!

If you already have a good screen, a more cost effective option would be a mac mini.

Get a Mini, Buy a cheap huge, non-Mac display, Get Parallels to run those programs that there is no Mac version. Such as ACT, MS Office 97 (the newer versions and Mac versions are shit.) I also use an email screener, Mailwasher. They had a Mac version, but not for Lion. So I had to revert to the Windows version. Mailwasher is better than automatic email filtering. Those always seem to filter out the emails I need.
I also use a Windows database system better than any other. but IBM owns it and hasn't updated it since 1995. Makes Bento, Filemaker & MS Access look like Poo.

The ergonomics of needing to hover your hand over the pad is just completely fucked. Looks great... But I feel tendinitis setting in quick!

I said there were only 4 programs, some smart programmer hasn't done yet,

Let's see, I have a Mac problem, I go to the Apple store & they fix for free. No going to Best Buy and paying hundreds to not get my Windows computer fixed.

Other than the 4 programs, the Mac programs are better.

No starting to do work, except Windows wants to daily upgrade my software, meaning I can't work for a couple of hours. Slight exaggeration, but seems that way.

Oh and did I mention all the wonderful viruses Windows gets.

And if I ever get into something bad, there's Command+Q to stop a program or Force Quit. In Windows, good luck, because if you turn off the machine, you may lose everything. And I mean FUCKING EVERYTHING!

I can understand that retards need someone else to "fix" their computer when they have messed it up, but non-retards can easily fix it themselfs.

You'll only get viruses if you run shady softwares or surfing the wrong sites with the wrong browser. Install a decent webbrowser + a antivirus program which you should have on any computer and you're pretty much safe.

You can force-quit any application with CTRL + ALT + DEL...

Judging by your reply you seem to have as much computer-knowledge as my grandpa, nothing wrong with that except that you share your worthless opinion in a thread like this.

There are times when the computer is locked up CTRL + ALT + DEL won't work.

I once worked at a company, where we were buying expensive, crappy Windows software and the lead programmer told me to copy a long file name to our server. I said "why not just F2 the name?" He said, using F2, you copy the entire file. I said sorry, I meant Control F-2, only copies the file name, an old DOS trick. Guess since I know some DOS, I'm as old as your Granpa.

Ok, for those saying Apple is more expensive. Let's take a look...

Dell.com (The cheapest mainstream PC manufacturer?)
They're cheapest laptop with the newest i7 CPU is the lower end Alienware M17x (base price $2,549). Let's upgrade the CPU to the 3820QM (up to 3.7GHz w/ turbo - what Apple uses). Upgrade to the 512 SSD. And then Let's leave everything else the same.

Total price: $3,324.

Apple.com
Let's go with their low end 15'' Retina display (Base Price $2,199). Upgrade the CPU to the same. Upgrade the RAM to 16GB. Upgrade to 512 SSD.

Total Price: $3,249

So, With the Dell you get a 17'', 3.7GHx CPU, 16GB RAM, 512SSD. For $3,324.

With Apple, you get a 15'' Retina, 3.7GHz CPU, 16GB RAM, 512SSD. For $3,249.

They're very close.

See, what you imbeciles seem to miss when you compare price is that Apple doesn't sell low end models. When they upgrade their line, the old ones are out the door. That's it. They don't have cheapo models. So when you go to those other PC manufacturers and compare prices, you need to do so accordingly. Not just pick the cheapest model from manufacturer XYZ and compared it to Apple's most expensive.

Apple isn't actually that expensive compared to other manufacturers. It just "appears" that way because they only sell higher end models. So to the laymen it seems like they are expensive.

If you get one, I used to train for Apple support and work with the engineers so I can fix any problem that happens with it.

Also look into Bootcamp or Parallels.

They are overpriced, though. One trick that they do is set refresh rates to 80Hz+ so that they look better in comparison to regular PCs...

If there is an OS or product update coming soon, people will be talking about it on Apple's forum

They have way too many OS updates, btw. Most are basically to say sorry for the last one..

Much cheaper actually as a Windows OS upgrade for Ultimate is $167 (best Amazon price) vs $20 for OS X

Is it worth if something is 2% or 5%, or even 10% better and 50% or 90% more expensive?

To me - hell no. To you? Choose yourself.

Nobody (except imbeciles like you say) is comparing mac with some specs and PC with WORSE specs, that would be just plain stupid

I do not know where do you get those numbers, maybe that specific dell is actually some specific model (+ its 17 inch vs mac 15 inch, I would like you to take 15 inch dell), but my cousin works in a computer store and he says that SAME specs macs are usually about 40%+ more expensive than same specs macs.
PS: I vouch for that because when I was buying my laptop I looked closely into this comparison thing.

I can get a brand-new computer every two years with top-of-the-line hardware for half the price of a Mac. I'll continue doing that.

No comparison. The mac will be much faster, have better operating system and last 5x as long. At NETbilling, the Macs last forever and the PCs typically have to be replaced every couple of years.

Almost none.

The ONLY compatibility problem we had was with Quickbooks, the accounting software. For some reason we were not able to import our old Windows QB data and were told that we had to run the windows version of Quickbooks.

So what we did was install Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/ca/) on Tracy's mac first and then Windows 7. This solved the problem. Everything else runs PERFECTLY. PER FECT LEEEE...

Its really not a better os because it only has to work on what 5 models all built by the same people who made the os. Where windows has to work on over a million combinations.
I have laptops over 6 yrs old sitting in drawers and I could pull out and they work fine. 4 gig of ram on over $1000 laptop is a fuck job without a kiss.

Why would you want to run any computer for longer than a few years? You need new hardware for the new software that is out.

I have 10-year-old PCs sitting around as well. They work fine.

Current Mac software runs perfectly well on 2007 (5 year old) iMacs.

And it runs perfectly fine on brand-new video editing software?

Comparing specs is not the best way to compare value. A harder to quantify but just as important comparison points should include usability, design, and ascetics.

The iMac 27 is a beautiful machine. It is a slim case of polished aluminium and glass, that sits on a single pedestal / leg, and has zero cables except for the single AC cable. A PC is at least 2 big items with at least 7 cables poking in and out.

The operating system is slick and fast, and unlike windows, is not prone to viruses and other security nightmares.

Getting tech support is a cinch. Getting a person on the phone to help is super fast, and best of all you have only 1 number to call.

All of the above ads tremendous value to me as a person who LIVE on their computers. There is no way I would trade a couple of hundred dollars "Savings" buying a PC now. An iMac is much better value for the money.

Yes, get a Mac. You will never have any problem using it, because once you have one you'll just spend all day jacking off over it while kissing 27 inch jpegs of Steve Jobs.

Indeed. Sorry to say it but Mac users mostly are retards. In fact a few hours with the shiny bouncing icons and other Toys R Us nonsense of OSX and you'll feel like you're losing braincells too.

The HP will probably run OSX too.

Then you're obviously doing something very wrong. The tiny minds of Mactards will never comprehend this little fact, however often it's explained, but Macs are PCs, architecturally. That's why you can run Windows on an Apple PC and OSX on a HP PC.

Carry on imagining Macs run on magic fairy dust though.

Oh good. We've not had a thread where people argue pointlessly about which OS they like the best for at least a week!

I believe the new iMacs are coming out in a couple of months... they're due for an upgrade since it's been a while

IMAC is by far the best computer I have ever owned. AND Because Mac geeks always have to have the latest and greatest its easy to find nice hardly used IMAC's for cheap. This way you can see if you like an IMAC for $800 - $1000 instead of a brand new one @ 2k+ then if you like it buy a new one in a couple years when apple releases new versions of its products.
