If real the solutions have been given and a truly resposible parent would have taken the advice by now and this would not be an issue any more. But then a truly resposible parent would also have had enough guards in place to start with. There's plenty of software to filter e-mails against adult content as well as general browser content.

If you are truly as intelligent and logical as you think you would have realised that coming to this board is in all likelyhood not coming to the 'soruce' at all. To taint all people running adult sites with the same brush as that of a spammer shows you are far less than intelligent and logical. That is extremely untrue. Spammers send blanket e-mails to AOL and several other ISPs, based on random word generations, so it is possible to get spam to an address that no one knows exists.

Also, if you use a small local ISP with bad security (I used to work for one), they might be subjected to blanket spams of every dial-up customer at the ISP. This is easily stopped if an ISP actually knows what they are doing and isn't operated out of some one's basement. It's pretty rare these days though.

I know for aol you can go under the master account of aol you can block all emails except for people you list. It was a really handy feature for getting rid of all that crap in my email box. Also I think there is additional email controls in aol that might beable to help. It is sad your email was not removed and none of the people you listed cared to do anything about it.

I read most of this thread and here's the simple way to deal with this.

First, understand that spammers are spammers. I have an email address that only a couple of people know about and I still get spam to it. Spammers will send out blanket spams in hopes of finding any real email addresses they can.

By replying to the unsubscribe list all you have done is confirm that this is an actual live email address. Chances are they have now sold that email address to other people so the spamming has just begun.

You have two real choices here.

1. set up all the filters in the email program you are using to filter out anything even remotly adult related. this should take care of any problem you have

2. call you isp, explain what happened and get her a new email address. Don't give it out to anyone who's not a family friend. Many buisnesses will sell emails to companies who then sell them to other companies and so on. The gap may have sold thier list to someone else who then sold it 5 companies and in ends up in the hands of a spammer sending adult material. I have ICQ and nothing in the ICQ info makes any reference to where I live or what I do for a living. All it is is my nickname and that's it. And yet I still get adult spam ICQ'd to me.

after this do #3
3. calm down. I know you are upset but you need to understand that most of the people that make adult sites are normal people you meet everyday. With the #'s growing chances are you know someone that runs some adult sites on the side and you just don't know it. Many of them are people with kids and many of them are good, normal people. You aren't going to shut down the web, nobody is going to go to jail and a hit squad isn't going to kick this guys door in and eliminate him while he sleeps. Spammers are a very small # of people with large technical abilities. the best way to deal with them is to just use the tools at hand. Read the help files to lock down you system so you kid can't get to any adult sites and adult material can't get to your kid and problem is solved.

Does your kid have a profile set up? That is a very easy way for people to harvest emails.

And I assume your child has never gone in a chatroom? That is another easy way to harvest emails.

Now that the email is on a list, its only a matter of time before it gets on more lists. The best thing to do at this point is just get a new email addy for her. And make sure her email is not published on any school pages or any other types of web pages. And do not set up profiles for the child, and never enter chat rooms.

Nothing is foolproof, or spamproof. But you can try, and when you fail just dump the email and get a new one.

But then a truly resposible parent would also have had enough guards in place to start with. There's plenty of software to filter e-mails against adult content as well as general browser content. To taint all people running adult sites with the same brush as that of a spammer shows you are far less than intelligent and logical. To expect a spammer to automatically hang-out here is totally daft. There's unfortunately loads of the nasty little turds out there and only a percentage read this board. Re-read the 1st posts, take the advice given and stop complaining because you have not until now taken your daughters protection seriously enough no matter how you try to deny it. You have been given advice on how to so do it this time. If not real (which still seems more likely) the thread's achieved little other than to show you that if you aren't an adult WM yoruself the vast majority truly dislike unsolicited spam as much as yourself.
