As a mom of a 6 year old and a 13 year old, the question I must ask is why the heck does an 8 year old have an email address anyways?
You said she doesn't sign up for anything online so why does she need one?
People might disagree with me, but the internet is NOT for children period. I don't care why kid's sites there are online, the internet is NOT kid friendly!
If you must allow her one for some IMPORTANT reason, ditch the one she has now, get her a new one and YOU read her mail BEFORE she gets to see it!
