You have the right to defend yourself, but overdoing it will probably not look good to a jury, especially when they have to consider the racial tension element of a not guilty verdict.

You people that are saying OMG so harsh are not hearing the fact that this man shot a kid. The kid passed was passed out, and the guy reloaded his gun and took time to shoot the kid FIVE more times.. The guy doled out a bit more justice than he should have and he's getting what he deserves.. "Life, WITH the possibility of parole!"

You don't shoot someone who's running away from you.. that's manslaughter.. Anyone with a weapon should know this..

Excessive force is a two way door... normally used for police, but does equally bleed over to the public.

Back in school we did a mock trial similar to this situation. Its all in the reload and shooting after there was no threat like many have said.

cops get away with excessive force all the time. if someone were to rob me, and i had a gun, i would shoot them no matter if they were armed or not. i wouldn't shoot to kill though, just a couple of times in the legs or something.

People do fucked up things under stress. Your state of mind would probably have gone from one of fear, to anger in a few short minutes. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

The pharmacist did probably mete out a little more "justice" than the situation called for, especially considering the fact that the perps were kids; HOWEVER, when you are an armed robber, such are the risks. And, their ages may not have been noticeable from the point of view of staring down the barrel of a gun.

When you are victimized the way the pharmacist was, the adrenaline surges. Cops deliver excessive force all the time in similar situations and they are trained professionals --and they are also rarely prosecuted.

Given the extreme stress that the pharmacist experienced, I am not convinced of his criminal intent.

That's what I'm thinking.

Adrenaline can make you do some shit, and there is nothing wrong with making sure they were dead. Pumping more lead into them would be one of those methods.

Personally, I feel if you can catch someone on your property, you should be able to kill them as much as you'd like until the police get there. Then they take the body away and that's that.

Where I live the police actually tell you if someone comes in to make sure they are dead. You get into less trouble if they are dead and on your property (or in the road). It's common for road accidents (car + bike) to have the car back over the bike person, sometimes a few times, to make sure they are dead. Costs less. 80% chance the ambulance staff will steal their organs if they live anyway, so they are fucked either way. Go figure.

He should have gotten maybe a small fine for shooting the kids after they were dead / unconscious or maybe an apology to their family - not life in prison.

Better to pick a career as a robber than get 8 years of education as a pharmacist and work hard to create your own business I guess. Seems there's a lot more protection for you in the legal system as a criminal.

She pulled up in her car into the parking lot and told the volunteers to feel free to ?Kiss the big black a** of a millionaire? referring to the Wrongful Death Suit she filed against the pharmacy and Jerome himself.
