If you're a vegan...

How sooner do you get exhausted and hungry? Consider you jsut quit eating meat.

I dont remember any energy loss.
Just like non vegans you have to balans your diet and make sure you get enough proteins.
Most western people are somewhat overweight and a well balanced vegetarian diet will make you lose some weight and thus gain energy.

I've been leaning towards vegan since August. Lost almost 20 lbs and feeling great. Still eat "a little" meat once or twice a week but 99% of my diet is animal product free.

I don't feel exhausted or tired eating this way. I feel more energetic in fact.

Good luck!

I tried it when I was dating a girl who was vegan. She had been a long time vegan and after following her diet for 2 weeks I could not even walk up the stairs to my office due to the energy loss. I managed to walk half a block to the nearest burger shop and ordered the greasiest item on the menu. I instantly felt better.

If you are going vegan for social reasons (animals being abused on factory frankenstien farms) you can just switch to grass fed beef or bison. At least the animals live a good life before they are slaughtered Plus the meat is very healthy to eat vs the grain fed animals which is not natural at all.

I went vegan for about 9 months just to try it and see how it went. I lost weight without counting calories or even trying and felt great. I also had plenty of energy. Most people actually get far more protein than you need to be healthy and normal so as long as you make sure to include some proteins in your vegan diet you will feel great.

The problem I found is that it is a pain in the ass. You can't really go anywhere to eat and there are almost no quick and easy foods you can make yourself. It was this reality, plus the fact that I sometimes found myself dreaming of meat and missed it that caused me to stop.

If you do it right, you will have at least the same energy you do now and probably more.

A few top level MMA fighters are vegan (Jake Shields, Jon Fitch, Nick Diaz) and they train about as hard as any athletes around.

Hey pat,
Sorry but I have to disagree. Most vegetarians I know are over weight because they eat too many carbs
. I don't eat red meat but I'll eat fish, turkey and chicken.

A vegetarian can still get plenty of protein, those guys live around 7 years longer on average than meat-eaters, but obviously life can be tricky for the vegan

I'm pescatarian and never experienced any energy loss. If anything, I gained energy. Be sure you eat 5-6 times a day, intake enough protein and don't overdo it on sweets.

Why not full vegan/vegetarian for me? As mentioned before, there are very few quick prep foods, and going out to eat is a pain in the ass if you are limited to a vegan diet.

And I am also overweight myself.
That is what I ment with the well balanced diet. There would not be too many carbs then.
I tend to compensate my bad urges with other stuff and you probably know vegetarians that do the same.
The "average" vegetarian is less fat then the "average" non-vegetarian

i would never go vegan, it could be one of the most unhealthy eating plans ever. fact is, we are realizing the 2 most important macronutrients to be proteins & fats (after water, obviously) and the vegan diet is simply carb overload on top of lacking protein and fat. it's not natural at all.

That's not entirely true. A vegan diet is very hard to do right, but a vegetarian diet is pretty easy to get all the nutrients you need and it's not all carbs. It is also easy to get all the proper fats you need.

The issue is that most people have no idea how to eat properly, vegetarian or not. So obviously when people become a vegetarian, they just eat garbage food because they have no idea what they are doing. But those same people at garbage when they were not vegetarians, they just happened to get some of the nutrients they needed by accident when they ate anything and everything.

But like all things, if you don't do your research, you will probably not yield the benefits and may even do harm. Same with lifting weights, if you don't bother to learn to do it right, you will probably not see any benefit and will probably end up hurting yourself. But if you research it and learn to do it right, you will get the results you want.

Vegan is definitely VERY hard to do right. For an athlete, I'm not sure if it even is.

I'm with you on that though, I would not suggest anyone just suddenly switch to a vegan diet without having a complete knowledge of diet and nutrition.

yup, i would think anyone that has a sound overall understanding of nutrition would see that veganism is more about politics/beliefs than diet.

If you are a vegan:

You are an idiot.

Walk up to a mirror and look at your dentition (That's TEETH to the unenlightened among us).

Incisors, canines, molars...............................

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentition

Canines and incisors for tearing and cutting, molars for grinding.....................

You're not a fuckin' cow; you don't have two stomachs, you are designed to be omnivorous; that means you eat plants, vegetation and MEAT!

You can play all the games you want with it but if you become a vegan you will be denying your body many of the things that it needs to be an effectively functioning organism.

Now stop trying to be a touchy-feely-looney-leftie-veggie and go out and get some food like THIS:

And don't forget the wine:

You could get your source of protein from foods such as beans and nuts. However, it's probably true that humans have certain sharp teeth so that they can chew meat. Recently, there is a popular caveman diet where people eat meat similar to what cavemen ate and lose fat. Good luck.

Red meat is very good for you as long as the cows or bison are grass fed. Seriously try the grass fed bison sometime. If you can get your hands on a bison heart you will realize what you have been missing.

With age you may feel a need for feeling EASIER, lighter, some kind of feeling that you get too much and do not use it. Taking a huge dump or colon cleansing helps but that's not the way of doing it correctly.

Ethical reasons may come afront too, but I wouldn't call it a real reason for myself.

My daughter is a vegetarian, which is an old Indian word for bad hunter.
She eats eggs and milk products.

If this is just to feel better, small adjustments in your diet will do that, I have cut out a lot of the crap I was eating and have lost 45 lbs, I'm going to start going to the gym soon as I'm moving to LA and have a buddy I can work out with.

If you are going to make the change, you have to be creative when dining out, my daughter can even go to in and out burger and order the grilled cheese which is the burger with out the meat. Most recipes like taco soup can be made without the meat and taste just fine . I even made spaghetti without the meat balls, then added after I served her.

I eat vegan about 3 days a week, fish couple of times a week and then chicken or pork.

A big bastard steak about once a month as a treat.

I never feel full or energetic after I eat vegetarian. I always feel incomplete, like I need a piece of chicken or steak to round out the meal. Also, I get hungry again within an hour or two of eating my meal.

think about that

The few people I know that are as muscled as that eat every 2 hours all day. And they don't eat rabbit food either.

Oh me too, he's clearly an exception to the genetic rules. I eat meat, I love the shit out of meat. I did curb my intake of red meats a couple years ago when I realized ground turkey tasted better than ground beef or pork, to me at least. I eat mainly chicken, fish, turkey, and sometimes pork.

Even though my alltime favorite food is a big fat greasy med rare cheeseburger!

I'm a vegetarian. Can't quite yet muster up the will power and self-discipline to go to vegan stage. Maybe one day.

Anyway, the TS' question would probably be better aimed at FRUITARIANS since vegan fare has enough high energy foods. Hard to get the same energy level when on a fruit only diet

i only eat a little meat now because I feel its better to keep a balance. But after you do the raw diet for at least a month, you feel so good its amazing. Everyone hates on it because when you go on a raw diet all your supressed emotions come up and most cant handle it.
