Need help regarding Sedo

Hi guys,
I had an old domain that was posted for sale on Sedo. The domain is no longer for sale and I forgot to removed it from the market place. Then I received this email from Sedo telling me that someone had accepted my Fixed Price sale.

And that Sedo is will assist me with the transfer to the new buyer.

Is there a way for me to cancel/refuse to sell the domain? Any help would be appreciated on how to proceed.

Dear XXXX,

We are pleased to inform you that a buyer has accepted your fixed price offer for your domain, xxxxx.net!

Sedo's transfer team will assist you with this transfer to ensure that you take the actions necessary to successfully complete this transaction.

For the security of the transfer, we will never email you directly regarding a transfer request. Specific transfer details will always be posted in your Sedo account. Each time a new message is added, you will receive a general notification message via email.

Your transfer specialist will be following up shortly with the next steps of the transfer, if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please feel free to contact your transfer specialist via the Transfer Center. Please use the link below to access this page.
Further information can be found in your Sedo account

Yes, ignore it. You know how many times I have bought shit at fixed price and it never happened? A lot. Sedo doesn't enforce any of their rules, so don't sweat it

Thanks for replying Pipecrew I'm relieved that I can just ignore the SEDO message. I was worried they could somehow auto transfer the domain out of my account at GD.

If your domain was in their distribution network and the buyer came from GoDaddy they can. Most smart markets DomainNameSales, Afternic, etc... are moving to distributed listings where sales can happen instantly across many different registrars. So it depends where the buyer came from. If he came from a Sedo distributed listing at GoDaddy then yes GoDaddy can transfer it. If the buyer came from Sedo then ya can blow it off and worst that could happen is they close your Sedo account or release your details to the buyer. They release them in case you wish to take legal action. I have a nice list built up over the last 10+ years of deadbeat buyers/sellers.

Lesson here is keep up on your listings or make them all "Make Offer" if your not going to keep your listings up to date so you don't have to worry about instant transfers as the future will be an increase in aftermarket distributed listings that are fulfilled straight from the registrars.

Thanks for the advice ErectMedia. I'm honestly not sure if the buyer came from Sedo's distribution network or GD's network

The first message (above) I received was on Dec 25.

I received this 2nd message on Dec 26

Dec/26/13payment received
Payment has arrived in Sedo's escrow account.

We kindly ask that you do not start the transfer process until we contact you with instructions to do so.
Please note that Sedo does not operate on weekends and national holidays, and that your Transfer Specialist will contact you on the next business day with instructions on preparing the domain name for transfer to the buyer.

The part that worries me is this part in Sedo's site:

Current Status:
Domain sold. Transfer in progress.

Latest Update:
payment received
Sale Price:
999 USD
Sedo's Commission:
200 USD
Net amount to be credited:
(more details)
799 USD

The "Transfer in progress" part is the worrying part. For anyone who has sold on Sedo, is it normal for that status to appear if you (the buyer) is the one who has to manually transfer the domain? Essentially is that a default status message that is displayed when the Escrow payment has been paid to Sedo's account?

I know on the domain offer page if the offer came from outside Sedo it would say something like...

Please note: This bid thread was initiated through our SedoMLS Partner . This partner is not supporting the display of comments at this point in time. Unfortunately this means you can't enter a comment with your offer for this name. We apologize for the inconvenience, we are looking to add this feature in the future. You may leave feedback here.

not sure if they just buy it now if the page tells ya or not as I never list my own domains at buy it now pricing.

It doesn't say the bid was initiated through a SedoMLS partner. Not much was mentioned in the Sedo domain offer page.
The timing couldn't have been worst as the BIN was accepted on Dec 25 and the payment came through by Escrow on the 26th. I just got home this morning and got the messages when I checked my email.

When I click on the domain in the search page, it gives me this message:

This domain is already registered and not listed for sale at Sedo. However, a Sedo broker may be able to assist you to get the domain you want. Contact a Sedo broker to learn more.

So not sure where to check more details about it.

Definitely going to take your sound advice and pull all of the other domains off Buy It Now just to be on the safe side.

You as the owner and seller should have last word if sale or not....

I sure hope so ialreadyknow. It would make sense that as the owner I should have the last word because the domain was put up with the BIN over a year ago. I know it doesn't excuse me from my obligation to be more alert and removed domains that are no longer for sale. But I wish sites like Sedo have a time limit for for sale domains like (1 month listing, 3 month listing, 6 months ) listings instead of having domains up with BIN indefinitely.

It might have come direct from Sedo then if you don't see a message like the one I posted on the offer page. Wait for them to contact ya about transfer and tell them your excuse whether that's...

I don't own it anymore and forgot to remove the sales listing
I developed it and don't wanna sell it anymore but forgot to remove the sales listing
I just like to get offers and talk to people but have no intentions of ever selling anything

If they close your account fuck it as their gonna lose their GoDaddy distribution deal in a few months anyway so Afternic or DomainNameSales will have have a longer reach moving forward.

Fixed price is good for lower end, 100% sure I wanna sell this shit as it can make sales instant if they are in the distribution network.

For any really good/high value domains better to have make offer as offers should be more frequent on better domains so no need to tie yourself to a fixed price which you may forget about and not adjust over time.

I hope it came direct from Sedo. I don't think I ever got an offer via GD's network before.

Yeah I heard that with the acquisition of Afternic by Godaddy, GD is ending their partnership with Sedo soon. I think they might close my account as you mentioned. I can understand their point of view if they end up closing my account as it looks bad for them if sellers just don't follow through with BIN sales. or vise versa when Buyers don't follow through with purchases.

I agree with you about Sedo's BIN being good for smaller domains that you don't care about and it's convenient that it automates domain sales. For any mid range domains or higher domains, "Make Me Offer" is a better way to go.

Transfer in progress is the default and shown regardless of whether a domain is transferred out to a different registrar or pushed within the same registrar. If you're worried about it automatically getting taken out of your GoDaddy account, try to transfer it out. You can go into your GoDaddy account and instantly approve a transfer out after submitting the auth code with the receiving registrar. With other registrars, you would typically have to wait 5 days after submitting the auth code.

As a buyer, I'd be pissed you didn't hold up your end of the agreement to sell at the fixed price. It's really your own fault for neglecting to update the price or status. Consider the repercussions to your reputation if the buyer outs you for being a less than ethical businessman. If the sale price is not significantly less than fair market value, then sell it and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

just sent sedo a message that the domain already has been sold. Else they have to return the money to the buyer.

it's pretty lame that you are wasting people's time like that, it's not like you were in the middle of some negotiation and you backed out at the last minute... you listed a domain on sedo, buyer bought it, paid for it, etc... and now you back out of the deal like nothing happened...

I would just honor your end of the deal and sell the domain for the price you agreed to...

Something similar happened to me once. Just ignore Sedo's emails. They will keep bugging you for a while saying that it's like 'legally binding' etc. But just ignore them and they will get off your back after a while and return the payment to the buyer.
