There are alot of reasons to go to a certain church other than the man preaching from the pulpit. Alot of denominations change pastors every few years yet the make-up of the congregation stays the same....because people are loyal to their faith/denomination/community, not to the preacher.

The funniest thing about this is that Bush was calling in guys like Falwell, Robertson and other loons for weekly meetings on policy. These are guys who believed New Orleans was hit by a hurricane because it allowed gays to have parades and stuff.

When Obama starts calling on this Wright guy for policy advice, then I'd be worried.

i think that when you put it all in the context of his wife's comments, her thesis at princeton, his buddy the terrorist etc... its all just as disturbing.

more disturbing still is that he seems to be the best choice.

Not a whole lot. If I recall correctly...since you left the board...I bought a boat and had it remodeled into a party boat...but I grew tired of it and sold it fairly recently. I dropped around fifty pounds (not by intent) and have under gone several surgical procedures and seem to be OK now...but I am not putting on weight back on very rapidly. That about sums it up.

He isn't the best choice. His record is fairly untarnished, but only by virtue of his inexperience and lack of a legislative record. I'd say there's a 10% chance that he'd be the best president ever, a 25% chance that he'd be a huge disappointment, and a 65% chance that he'd be wholly unremarkable. Obama becoming president would be much like Microsoft appointing the fun new guy from marketing as the new CEO. Sure, it could work - but it probably won't.

She wouldn't be as popular as a JFK or a Reagan, but she'd more than likely do the job, and do it at least fairly well.

McCain is a bit of a problem. He'd improve the image of the US abroad a lot, even if he probably wouldn't be as successful as Obama or Hillary in building new bridges and rebuilding old ones. Economically, he'd probably do quite a bit better than Bush, but since economics has never been his forte, it's doubtful that he'd do as well as Hillary. Still, he's more of a known value than Obama, which at this time is probably rather important.

I had been ill since July and all that they have found is I was severely allergic to the allergy medicine Singulair. Been have some stuff with my heart although I am healthy and have a .008 chance of a heart attack. haha

I can kick my daughter's butt when we work out at the gym so I guess I will survive.

Got laid off from my job so I am working on online stuff and my house until I find something else. Should have the house on the market by May.

Yes a party boat. I thought it might relieve me from boredom and it did for a while...but I did not feel up to taking it out daily and learned that a realible Captain and crew are hard to come by...so I sold it. I invested a ton of money into it and almost recouped when I sold it. Yes I am still in Oregon and I am probably here to stay. No the surgerical procedures were not serious and I may have to have another in a couple of months. My esophagus closed up due to scar tissue and I could not eat any solid food for about a year...thus the loss of weight. I kept thinking it would get better...which caused me to delay seeing a doctor...but it got worse instead of better.

I stopped being a 'patriot' when I started to travel internationally a lot and realised that most people are patriots - irrespective of what country they're from. I've been to Russia, and trust me, they outdo Americans when it comes to patriotism. Only they aren't quite as obnoxious about it. And they're equally entitled to be patriotic. Because patriotism is all perception. Your country is the best becuase you think so! Woohoo!

Back to the original point .. people will attend a catholic church and still use birth control (I personally know people who do!), but people won't attend a church that preaches racist rhetoric if they don't agree with it ... they will go to a church more in line with their values.

Anyhow Americans deserve Obama ... and I guarantee you will get a hardline republican with a huge majority as soon as Obama's term is up. Once the world starts taking advantage of weak leadership and America gets trodden on for a few years people will get sick of the pretty speeches and clean softy-softly president. You need someone in there with a giant set of balls, and Clinton is packing twice that of Obama.

I guess what I'm saying is that I think the people bashing have been hypocritical, especially conservatives. Now my question is why is the Rev. Wright issue so horrible, but taking military advice from a man who believes we were attacked because we have gays in our country is OK. Speaking in front of a racist University is fine? Is it because Rev. Wright is black? Is it because his Church is "different" than your classic white Church? It seems that race and xenophobia are the prime components of why this is a big deal and what President Bush did was not.

I don't see why her thesis was wrong. She spoke on the racial divide in 1985 at a school that was almost exclusively white at the time. The society and culture surrounding the University had to be odd for a young, black woman in 1985. After reading it, it seemed like a fair assesment of how she felt about going to school there. I would imagine I'd have had the same sentiment if I went to an all black inner-city school as a white male.

Nonetheless, it was a thesis written in her early twenties. Who cares?

If you want to bash politician's wives, look at Cindy McCain. She was a drug addict and a thief in the 90's. Still, I don't see why that would change my vote for McCain?

These are guys who believed New Orleans was hit by a hurricane because it allowed gays to have parades and stuff. When Obama starts calling on this Wright guy for policy advice, then I'd be worried.
