yeah, thank them for supporting torrentsites. Im so happy they send money to People ripping off the industry. Adbrite (wich is their sister company) is on the majority of every porn-torrent site out there.

Don't have to go far to find them:
http://www.adbrite.com/mb/directory_...search=torrent Just search... it's easy to get a list, apparently nobody at adbrite is actually able to search their own site. http://www.adbrite.com/mb/commerce/p...php?opid=46694 Etc... |

I never bullshit, I'm not just saying stuff like this to start drama, that is not how I work. I don't get how you can say "their core biz hopefully will not lose its focus because as of now their show is #1."
As I see it, the adult industry NEED to loose the focus for a while, to check what goes on in the corners of the companies they hail for being "top notch" AVN is facilitating the distribution of Pirated content - its that simple. Just like a few of the big hosts have no problem with hosting the torrent sites, right next to the sites they rip off. Because to them, its just another income.

I should also point out that slogging around torrent sites looking for "proof" isn't something I get paid for. With the number of popups, viruses, and trojans these sites try to dump on my PC while I am doing it, I don't last for long.
I checked for first few on the list, and I was unable to find the adbrite ads on the site, but I was able to buy on them, which would suggest they are scamming adbrite users as well. |

ok we have 2 issues here-
1- their shows are the shit and i appreciate them 2- content misuse sucks i will voice my opinion to avn on the torrent issue. i am curious what avn's stance on this is. i can't imagine they would ignore c&d's from copyright owners either ![]() also, alex you may not get paid for this but i will try to help the cause so your efforts are not a waste ![]()

Here, let me give you the biggest one possible:
http://thepiratebay.org/top/201 adbrite all down the side, and that page is packed with copyright material. I am pretty sure the Simpson's Movie hasn't been released for web distribution. |

Sorry, let me just add this: Most copyright holders don't take the time to send C&D or DMCA notices to individual sponsors. In the case of a place like Pirate Bay, most have given up sending DMCAs because these guys just say "fuck you!".
It shouldn't take a DMCA notice for AVN to get on the right side of something that is totally killing the industry. They are suppose to be the leaders, not the fucking lemmings. |

Try and make some rough calculation on how much money they make on torrentsites. Its shocking.
Its not only money they make from people ripping off other webmasters, but since they are sending money to them, its both legalizing the torrent sites and worse, its a incentive for other people to break the law. Why should webmasters worry about Copyright, when they can make a huge amount of cash and get away with it.

It's the same with AFF ( https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/757665-aff-sponsoring-thepiratebay-post12879402.html ), Fleshlight and more. Unless people like you take a stand against this - people like you who own the right to content. People that are tired of being ripped off by 14 year old kids, and no way of getting your money back. Unless that happens, NOTHING will ever change.

KimJI, as I mentioned elsewhere, I have come to realize that in the adult business, there are two types of affiliate companies: Those companies that have invested in content and product, and those that invested only in software to run their sites.
Those companies that invested in content have "skin in the game". They have a volatile product that loses value over time. It can also be stolen and redistributed without their permission via torrents and other methods. When a torrent site steals from them, their content loses value. Those companies that invested only in software have no skin in the game. It doesn't matter if there are torrent sites, password trading sites, or any other hacks out there because THEY HAVE NOTHING TO STEAL. Who is going to steal a bunch of dating profiles, a cam girl listing, or a set of pictures of sex toys still in the boxes? Nobody. It has no value, nothing to steal. So these guys have no skin in the game, nothing on the table, so they supprt the heck of the torrent sites, password sites, "user forums" that hotlink and steal, the fusker style sites, Zango style traffic redirectors, the newgroup sites... because none of the activity directly affects their business. There is one way to make it hurt thier business, it is when people with skin in the game stop using them, stop supporting them, and stop tolerating them. I dare programs to put up a "no dating, no cam, and no text ads allowed on the same page as our content" rule. That would serious screw up those companies and fix what has been a major issue for the industry. |

are they just white-labelling adbrite?
these type of sites are a huge threat to our business and anyone turning a blind eye needs to do some digging. we will start adding the sponsors of the "user-submitted" content sites to our notices on our content. the thing is that the tube-style sites react the fastest to take-down notices. that means a lot of sponsors are sleeping at the wheel or submitting the content themselves...

Appreciate the great feedback on the show Evan. Just got back -
I am not the person to speak towards the second issue, as soon as I get back in the office I will bring it to the appropriate persons attention.

Most don't do anything because of the Cost/Benefit calculation. It will take so many man-hours to track, report and take legal action on every incident. Not every program can afford to allocate that amount of time. You know yourself how hard it is to find good people to work for you. Can you spare 15-20 man-hours a week and allocate them to this problem? The easiest and most effective way of fighting this problem is cutting the income off to the sites. People dealing with those sites should be excluded from the business. And I mean hosts as well. People like ISPrime have several of the very large forums distributing copyrighted content, and they do nothing about it. I approached them once, and they told me to bring prove of copyright violations, and they would delete the specific post. That mean I should get the legal papers to every single post on a forum with 100.000+ posts. To me that kind of reply is the same as "screw you, we are getting payed"

KimJI, you touch on what is one of the major flaws of DMCA - there is no "repeat" penalty, and no requirement for sites to prove they have the rights to content.
A site can steal content from 10 people, 1 complaints, so they remove that 1's stuff and let the rest go. Then the stuff from the 1 is re-added, and must be once again DMCAed for the new URLs it appears on. They remove it. Then the stuff gets re-added... and so on. What was the term the other day? "User generated Content"? That is what the mainstream people are calling wholesale content theft. They weakly point their finger at anonymous users and say "they did it!", not for a second accepting any responsbility for creating the very structures and systems that allow and encourage this type of theft. The adult industry needs to snap out of it's slumber and realize that the apparent industry leader AVN is neck deep in the exact business model that is fucking porn over solid. |

I agree that its one of the problems with DMCA, but its also a safety for the honest siteowners out there. BUT - if a host get notified about one of their sites distributing/facilitating the distribution of 100.000+ copyrighted titles. Why on earth should it be necessary to do all that paperwork? If the hosting company had ANY interest in the industry whatsoever, they would look at the site and see that its clearly illegal, and then terminate the account.

cool chris- good seeing you as always- on the second issue- this is the kind of issue that no matter how much money a company makes- it will eventually cost them everything.... not clean-- also competing unfairly with the very companies avn has helped in the past.

Maybe, when you write the reply, you should explain why AVN as a newsmedia, have never brought up the issue of dating and camsites making money off websites distributing/facilitating distribution of copyrighted content

AVN Official Response (and appreciation)
Hi Everyone,
First of all I want to address the subject of this thread. Thank you to Evan for the kind words about the show. As always, it was great seeing you and thanks for attending as well as tearing it up at The Players Ball. And thank you to everyone that exhibited and attended. Everyone here at AVN/Internext appreciates your attendance. I've heard only positive things from everyone that was there. Tons of new business was done- New relationships were established, old relationships were expanded, the information sessions were valuable, the parties were outstanding, the hotel and their staff as always were wonderful, the weather was great and my AVN Online team & the Internext team were attentive & helpful to exhibitors and attendees alike. Secondly, certain people take every opportunity to turn positives into negatives. As I mentioned above, Evan was kind enough to post a thank you for having a good show and it's turned into a discussion about Adbrite and AVN's relationship. So I want to be clear, again. If you remember, I posted the facts on a past thread which outlined the facts about AVN and Adbrite's relationship. https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/738041-avn-adbrite-selling-space-piratebay-3.html Quote:

Just as HotMovies, Gamelink, Effex Media, etc. do for other companies. Neither company owns any part of the other. In conclusion, not a single person posting to or reading these threads has EVER made the effort to email, IM, call or come up to me in person to discuss or to point out a single individual site that they feel should be removed. So why is that RawAlex and KimJI? Why have you never called or emailed me in an effort to help police this issue and to proactively fight piracy? Is any of your content being pirated by AVNads publishers? If so I would be more than happy to address those with you, your attorneys as well as ours. I'm here 65 hours a week and I attend many of the shows. I'm available to discuss this with anyone, but frankly, I don't have the time to respond to every post about everything that relates to AVN. We are a large organization with multiple magazines, events and websites with which I am involved in. I take great pride, as does everyone at AVN, in helping anyone inside or for that matter outside the industry with anything they may need. AVNads has proven itself as valuable asset to many adult companies looking for traffic and/or revenue from selling ads. So what do you really want to do? Do you want to keep jumping on threads like this where someone has something positive to say? Do you want to keep bashing AVN and AVNads on an issue to which we have been proactive and attentive to? How about picking up the phone and calling me like a real business person does. Like Evan and many other professionals would do if they had an issue with AVN. Isn't that the truly professional course of action or would you rather keep going down this path. Your call. I'm available anytime. Thanks, Farley |

Farley, with all due respect, I checked the information on avnads and adbrite not long ago, and the DNS servers were the same, the network was the same, and the support phone numbers were the same.
Adbrite is a partnership between Pud (the owner of fuckedcompany.com) and investors. He also created AVN ads: Quote:

Adbrite.com and avnads.com are on exactly the same IP nubmer, 64.127.126.24 So quit with the bullshit. I call bullshit. I say either you are lying, or your bosses are lying to you. Enough already. The people getting ripped off by torrent sites should be freaking out by now. |

It have been documented again and again that AVNADS and Adbrite is the same. Same support number, same IP, Same DNS. Don't feed us this bullshit. Also. - I have emails you several times regarding this, but never got one single reply. - I don't make phone-calls, because phone-calls cant be documented - I bring this discussion into every thread because YOU refuse to give us a honest answer. And I will keep doing so until you fix the problem. - If you think this will go away by giving a bullshit reply like above, they you are either naive, or think very little about the general webmaster community AVNads.com = IP Address: 64.127.126.24 Adbrite.com = IP Address: 64.127.126.24 Remember the AVNads /adbrite email we got once when you started working together? farley- thanks for stepping up. i think we all want to think avn is transparent but at the end of the day, it's a business.
pointing dns has nothing to do with ownership of a domain. millions of parked domains rely on their registrar for dns and the registrar does not get accused of owning those domains... anyway, a lot of webmasters here think adbrite is into some filthy shit. maybe you can find a more ethical provider ![]()

Thanks RawAlex for the call last night.
I enjoyed our lively discussion and appreciate your professionalism. D$- As always- Great show! Thanks for bring The Players Ball back to Internext again. Sushi dinner felt just like old times. KimJI- My email works for everyone else that's made the effort so I'm not sure what the issue is. RawAlex thought it was important enough to pick up the phone and I think we came to relatively mutual understanding. AGAIN, neither company owns any part of the other. We have oversight of AVNads.com and can request that sites are removed if we choose to do so. Adbrite acts independently of AVNads. If they chose to keep a site then that's their decision. Do you understand the Private Label concept? In an example that gave to RawAlex I said think of it as if i have XYZvod.com which is a white label of Gamelink. And on my site I want certain content removed that I or my clients feel is objectionable. Gamelink accomodates this request but choses to keep it on their site. Am I then responsible for that content on their site? In another point I made, I said let's look at who's buying traffic on these torrent sites. Are they not as much to blame as the torrent sites themselves? If no one buys the traffic then sites would cease to exist? Shouldn't webmasters band together to agree not to support these kinds of sites? I did make the promise to RawAlex to contact Philip Kaplan personally to discuss this issue. Who here who is upset about Adbrite's practices and has sent a formal complaint letter? I'd be happy to look at them and re-send out their behalf. AVN has taken steps to remove sites which appear to be pirating content. Yes Adbrite choses to take these sites as publishers. AVN can and has recommended that they reconsider accepting these types of sites. As I said I will discuss it with Philip but its incumbent upon the community to look at all aspects of the situation. I'm open to discussing this on internet radio (if D$ wants to facilitate it, I'd be happy to participate). I also told Alex that we'll look to January's Internext to create a panel which would focus on piracy and that we'd be glad to have him participate. Again, let me say thanks to everyone that came to Internext and feel free to contact me if you need anything. |
