Obese people are often simply greedy and should not always be treated with pills, the head of the British Medical Association has said.

Dr Hamish Meldrum believes an obsession with medical labels may be stopping overweight people addressing their own problems.

He said the obesity epidemic is being mistakenly targeted with medical treatments and doctors' appointments.

Normally I just ignore the fat-hating threads, but this one is drawing me out, and here's why.....

I was walking out of an Amscot after geting a money order for some stupid eBay seller who doesn't accept Paypal and some idiot driving by made some comment about the width of my ass. Now, granted, my ass is pretty wide, but what really pissed me the fuck off is that I bet I have been to the gym more in the past week than he has been in his whole life.

Yup, I'll be damned, this fat girl works out 6 days a week, and probably eats more healthy than he ever has. (Note I didn't say LESS than him, because I do eat 6 times a day...but it's HEALTHY food at appropriate portions, and it's what my gym owner recommends. But even before I started working at getting fit, I still ate less food than most people I know-it was the types of food, and the schedule I ate it on, that hurt me.)

Ok, that's all. I feel better. Just remember, even a fat person working five times harder than you have ever dreamed of at being fit will still look fat for a good while. So for christ's sake, just CONSIDER finding someone else to pick on to make yourself feel superior, just once.

Well done... Once you have put in the hard yards and lost the weight, you will look back at your old self and the overweight people you see on teh street, and realise that the extra weight and associated health problems are a result of their own mental weakness, and why fit people just don't respect fatties.

cashbot, thanks for the encouragement, I do believe you meant it sincerely, so please consider what I am about to say. Hating people for their own good doesn't work. The repulsion you may feel towards an obese person is your right to feel, and you're right, many people feel that way. But treating someone as less than human because of anything isn't right. I'm not saying you do, I'm just addressing the way that overweight people will likely perceive your comment.

I have to say that Tony is right. I don't judge people by their appearance, or my perception or assumption of the kind of life they lead. Everyone gets my respect until they un-earn it. Even people I dislike I go out of my way to treat with the respect of a sincere disagreement, rather than resorting to childish personal attacks.....at least the vast majority of the time, lol, sometimes I slip. ;-P

When I'm fit, (note I don't say thin), I'll feel really good about the dedication that I put into myself, and I will probably have more energy and stamina, and less stress....but I can't imagine expressing my pride by disrespecting overweight people.

You are the exception to the rule then. I go to the store to get groceries and everytime I see a morbidly fat fuck, I look in their carts. Ho-hos, twinkies, high suger drinks, and not on damned fruit or veggie. And don't call it a poverty thing either, cause the poorest countries have the skinniest people.

Fat people suck dick. They are a burden on society and employers. Employers that provide heath insurance have to pay higher rates because you can't put down a damn BigMac.

You get Handicap parking spots because you can't get your asses (collectively) off the damn couch. 82% of the people on welfare in the US (according to the WSJ) are overweight, which means instead of having the potholes getting fixed with my taxes, in my town, I am paying for your fat ass.

And I'm not talking about things "from the produce section". I mean only whole fruits, whole vegetables. No pre-made "salads" with meat and cheese and crap! Just real food! Fresh herbs are permitted if you dont already grow them.

Guaranteed that you will lose weight, and be more healthy if you always shop that way. Even better if the food is grown locally.

I have yet to be able to do this myself, but goddammit I will one day.

BTW on topic, I kind of agree with the doctor, but applied to everything, not just obesity. Doctors need to address reasons people become ill and work on prevention, not treat symptoms or be responsible to answer people who are constantly fed the advertised line of "ask your doctor"...

Not to mention there are a thousand different diets people are hocking all over the world. It's not hard to see what works from some of them and put together a frankenstein diet. Last time I was at my cardiologist, and was sitting there in the examination room waiting, there was a pile of "nutrition guides" on the desk. They were from general mills I believe. He may prescribe things that he normally wouldnt have thought of, just based on someone asking him about some big new pill they saw on tv. But certainly not to me. Not unless it's absolutely required in his opinion, and I still ask why do I HAVE to do that!????

There's zero irony. I had a heart attack, and I had a stent placed in my heart. The Plavix prevents my blood from clotting the stent and killing me.

The Lipitor is to get cholesterol in line so less plaque is clogging my arteries. My diet has changed drastically since the attack, so I'm hoping I can get off the lipitor ASAP. I may be stuck on plavix for the rest of my life though.

I also take an aspirin a day, and lisinopril and metoprolol, both of which I believe I should be able to get off of. He's going to tell me on Monday I hope that I can let those expire.. I'm hoping!

I REALLY hate taking drugs

I had a heart attack because I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day, and sat at my computer for 16 hours a day or more and the rest of the time slept! lol

Yes the smoking and sedentary lifestyle made me unhealthy, no question about that. But my eating habits have been pretty damn good which all the doctors agreed with. I already eat whole grain wheat bread for example, and 1% milk, dont add sugar or salt to anything. Been using Splenda in my coffee for years and years instead of sugar. Etc.. the list goes on. The cause of my attack was absolutely attributed to my smoking and my sedentary lifestyle, plus family history.

There is a long history of heart disease in my family. My father died of a massive heart attack at my age (42), and my mother at 67 after a severe stroke.

About my post, yes I admitted that I havent bought ONLY what I said myself yet, and I bet you havent either, hehe. Not many people use produce stands these days, but we all probably should. However you will always find fresh fruit and vegetables in my house, and decent cereals with whole grains and low sugars.

You can try to pick apart my eating and such, but theres not much to find there. I was in a situation where it was operation and drugs, or death. Not hard to choose. Doesnt mean I have to like it though, or that my diet was bad.

If you're reading this and you smoke alot, sit at the computer a lot, and dont get off your ass and MOVE everyday, then you are in sorry shape. You should wake up and get off your butt and throw away all of your smokes and ashtrays immediately and continue, or START eating properly.

I have to say that Tony is right. I don't judge people by their appearance, or my perception or assumption of the kind of life they lead. Everyone gets my respect until they un-earn it. Even people I dislike I go out of my way to treat with the respect of a sincere disagreement, rather than resorting to childish personal attacks.....at least the vast majority of the time, lol, sometimes I slip. ;-P When I'm fit, (note I don't say thin), I'll feel really good about the dedication that I put into myself, and I will probably have more energy and stamina, and less stress....but I can't imagine expressing my pride by disrespecting overweight people. __________________ Need Hosting? Employers that provide heath insurance have to pay higher rates because you can't put down a damn BigMac. And I'm not talking about things "from the produce section". I mean only whole fruits, whole vegetables. No pre-made "salads" with meat and cheese and crap! Just real food! Fresh herbs are permitted if you dont already grow them. Guaranteed that you will lose weight, and be more healthy if you always shop that way. Even better if the food is grown locally. The Plavix prevents my blood from clotting the stent and killing me. The Lipitor is to get cholesterol in line so less plaque is clogging my arteries. My diet has changed drastically since the attack, so I'm hoping I can get off the lipitor ASAP. I may be stuck on plavix for the rest of my life though. I also take an aspirin a day, and lisinopril and metoprolol, both of which I believe I should be able to get off of. He's going to tell me on Monday I hope that I can let those expire.. I'm hoping! But my eating habits have been pretty damn good which all the doctors agreed with. I already eat whole grain wheat bread for example, and 1% milk, dont add sugar or salt to anything. Been using Splenda in my coffee for years and years instead of sugar. Etc.. the list goes on. The cause of my attack was absolutely attributed to my smoking and my sedentary lifestyle, plus family history. There is a long history of heart disease in my family. My father died of a massive heart attack at my age (42), and my mother at 67 after a severe stroke. About my post, yes I admitted that I havent bought ONLY what I said myself yet, and I bet you havent either, hehe. Not many people use produce stands these days, but we all probably should. However you will always find fresh fruit and vegetables in my house, and decent cereals with whole grains and low sugars. You can try to pick apart my eating and such, but theres not much to find there. I was in a situation where it was operation and drugs, or death. Not hard to choose. Doesnt mean I have to like it though, or that my diet was bad. If you're reading this and you smoke alot, sit at the computer a lot, and dont get off your ass and MOVE everyday, then you are in sorry shape.
