Want to feel safe, but live in a state (California) or a country (England) that has banned guns from everyone but felons? Buy a dog. Buy a gun if you want extra protection, will teach your kids gun safety so you don't have to keep it locked and unloaded and waiting half an hour for the cops to help out is not an option.
Your faithful civil servant. |

It's our constitutional right!! Enough said. We won our independence because of the right of the average man to own firearms!!

If i were you and I heard that dreaded bump in the night I would get on all fours and start barking like a dog. Ok, maybe not. Like I said, I am thinking about just putting a security alarm in and saying fuck the security deposit. (You can't take it with you, right?) Also buy a gun and take some safety classes otherwise, or marry a cop. |

i guess i just have my doubts i'll ever run in to a situation where a gun will change the final outcome when it comes to mine or my "family"'s survival. if someone came in to steal something for drug money, they're probably not going to kill me - they probably won't have any weapon at all. if someone comes in with a gun and wants to kill me, well, i'll probably either be asleep or not there. and if i am there, i probably won't have a gun anywhere near me unless i am paranoid enough to carry it around with me in my own home (you've gotta admit, that'd be paranoia.).

I have a gun next to my bed, next to my computer in my office, next to my tv in my basement. Used to have one in car but gradually became convinced that for the sake of the public safety (I have road rage) I should remove it. So now I just have an aluminum t-ball bat in the back seat.
I pray for the day the door knobs jiggle. I also got ADT but I think of that more as an early warning system so I can get to my guns faster. |

Hello Mr. [Labret], I was just stopping by to tell you left your headlights on... o god! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO [insert gunshot here] Ok, so you wouldn't jiggle the handle for that. But I sure wouldn't pray for someone to. What pistols ya got? Mines a CZ 75 Compact. Soon to be replaced with a Beretta 92 and 15 round mags. |

I have found in this situation that simply cocking a shotgun is enough to scare off the majority of would be intruders. There's something about the distinct sound it makes in the middle of a dark night that screams "Don't fuck with me".

I have a carry permit in my state and happy about it but a carry permit with no training is worse so better pay some bucks for good training

Just a thought, but you are as liable for your dog, as you are your own hands. So, if a dog hears your wife screaming, and he has his back turned, he's probably going to get bit.
Dogs will get you sued faster than anything, ESPECIALLY German Shepards, Pit Bulls, Dobermans and the like, so don't think you have an easy loop hole there. Furthermore, in the case of intruders, once you've confirmed it isn't a friend or family member, shoot to kill, and frame the scene before calling the police. If you injur, or maim, you are going to have legal problems, no doubts about it. TarPy

Okay, I was trying to be nice before, but a few people here need a hot fucking clue on this subject. Sometimes it isn't about paranoia, it isn't about your property, it isn't even about yourself or your life.
No, sometimes it's simply about NOT allowing some fucker to take advantage of you and compromise your family and all that you care about. It's about saying <i>"FUCK YOU FUCKER, YOU SHOULD HAVE FUCKED WITH SOMEONE ELSE....TIME TO LOSE"</i> and putting the fucker out of business. Shootout in front of your kids?? Fuckin A. Your kids will respect the fact that daddy fucking did what daddy had to do. Lawsuit over a dog? Trust me, that criminal would think NOTHING about tossing your beloved dog a poisoned piece of meat, or shooting an innocent animal to get what his greedy ass wants. Will he shoot your kids if they cry too loudly while he's fucking your wife and robbing you blind? ..... Why the fuck anyone would want to leave this choice up to the criminals is beyond me. People that do this, in my opinion, are more fucking nuts than the crooks. I'm not saying everyone should own a gun. I don't own one, never have, except for the odd pellet gun. But I don't begrudge anyone the right to arm themselves for defense purposes.

I have no problems with guns.. except I was always under the impression that more people die from accidents with guns than any other reason when it comes to a gun-related death.. not sure how accurate it is, but I know one thing for sure..
why would you ever want a gun in your house when there are little kids.. you are assuming the fact one day that something bad will happen - there are other preventative measures. like an alarm system, a dog, bat, etc. Why choose a gun? Accidents DO happen - i think some people forget stuff like that.. but at the same time, I do agree with the Constitution, firearms are OK, but if I ever ever had a child in my home, the first thing to go would be a firearm. - this is just my opinion |

CD.. I agree.. but why a gun..
why not a bat, golf club, etc.. - hey I would give these weapons to my kids and tell them to go free on the FUCKER and enjoy it.. BUT a gun is a different story, a gun brings death, and accidents do happen.. what if you miss the burglar when you try to shoot him, the bullet deflects and hits your kid/wife? im all for a beating, just not a gun.. does that make me a hipocrate? |

What if? What if?
Here's a "what if" for you..... What if you've never had a breakin in all the years you've lived where you live. What if your neighbors have never had any either? And.... what if tonight a crook just happens to be in your area and decides to pay you a little visit?... ya, and what if he's packing heat just in case you decide to pull something stupid like a baseball bat or some shit? What if he holds you at gunpoint, makes your wife tie you up, then he fucks your own wife right in front of you and your kids? Shall I go on? Does anyone here really fucking need me to go on?? Fuck, someone mentioned the word "paranoia".... what about the old sayings mom used to tell us kids??..... like "forewarned is fore-armed", or how about "a stitch in time saves nine"..... or this little ditty "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Anyone have any idea what these sayings actually fucking mean? Anyone??

One case, a guy was walking on the roof about to break in when he fell through a sky light. He sued because a sky light SHOULD hold his weight. He won, and got worker's comp, hospital bills, and pain and suffering. Quote:

"What do you WANT?!"
No answer, banging, peephole obscured. "What do you WANT?!" No answer, banging, peephole obscured. "I'm gonna shoot through the door!" No answer, more banging, peephole obscured. The gun goes click, the gun goes bang. ![]() Sometimes shit happens and if you pick the wrong door to be a fool at well, Darwin wins and the gene pool is a little bit cleaner. I think you were justified to shoot, particularly after a warning or two. Sucks to be forced to make that decision, though... -shane |

Is this paranoia? Maybe. But why the hell would you need an alarm? Or an airbag in your car? Or a smoke detector? I guarantee that you know at least one person who owns a gun, so long as it is legal in your country. They just don't TELL YOU because of the stigma associated with being a rambo wanna be. |

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2%. Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6%. Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44%. (yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT) In the state of Victoria, homicides-with-firearms are up 300%! The steady decrease in homicides-with-firearms that occurred during the previous 25 years became an increase in the last 12 months. The steady decrease in armed-robbery-with-firearms that occurred during the previous 25 years became an increase in the last 12 months. There has been a dramatic increase in breakins-and-assaults-of-the-elderly. At the time of the ban, the Prime Minister said "self-defense is not a reason for owning a firearm". From 1910 to present, homicides in Australia have averaged about 1.8-per-100,000 or lower, a safe society by any standard. The ban has destroyed Australia's standings in some international sport shooting competitions. The membership of the Australian Sports Shooting Association has increased by 200% in response to the ban and in an attempt to organize against further controls, which are expected. Australian politicians are on the spot and at a loss to explain why no improvement in "safety" has been observed after such monumental effort and expense was successfully expended in "ridding society of guns". Their response has been to "wait longer". |
