1.6% chargebacks this month - worst ever with ccbill.

Hi there,

This month i've had a freakish amount of chargebacks, some people are charging back months of membership. These are total scammers i can tell by looking at their countries and the usernames they've chosen.

At 1.6% this month, i'd heard it was bad news to exceed 1% with ccbill.com

I'm only on 0.3% for the year and have been under 0.4% year on year for around 4 years now.

Anyone else gone over 1% with ccbill before?

There really need to be something done about this chargeback process, it's really quite unfair to the webmaster and the processor.

thanks for any info

I would love to support you, but this month is my best with CBs this year. I was at 0.4% last year and now Im back at those numbers. The start of the year was a little worse(still far below 1%), but its over now.

Yeah, as i said i've never gone over 0.4% in previous years.....however i just want to know if anyone has gone over the 1% and what happend?

Do they put the scrub on real hard, or do they increase the processing charges...or worse close you down?

How big is your VISA chargeback percentage? How many chargebacks are that totally per month?

Talk with CCBill. But i doubt there is any worries until you had over 100 CBs and for some time.

Hi again,

Thanks to everyone for the replies that's very good news that i need 100 cbs to get me closed down.

I'm just a small fish so it's just 14 cbs for the month so i guess i'm not going under right now. But i was worried there for a moment. I was even considering adding a $1 sign up option for today to get the ration of cbs back down.

thanks again, can always get a good quick answer on GFY.

True, even though no billing will confirm it officially.

Longdong, the problem your facing is probably since your doing less sales over all when a couple of scammy customers chargeback 6 months at once, say 2 x 6 months = 12 chargebacks then bang your chargebacks are all screwed up for the month.

The one thing you have to watch out for is if your near 1% chargebacks then the processing company will probably up the scrubbing on your account. We hit .6% once over a year ago (when a few customers chargedback 6 months worth at once) and boy we sure noticed a 25-30% drop in sales overall that month cause of the extra scrubbing that was happening. I'm almost certain the processors have a few different scrubbing levels and if your near or over 1% i'm sure you go into the highest scrubbing area.

Anyways i'm sure you'll drop back next month. And no idea if CCbill auto scrub I just have a pretty good hunch Paycom do after seeing it first hand.

Cheers

Matt

Did you check to see what kind of a chargeback it was? If you go into Cancel Reason, and then Chargebacks, the subscription numbers beginning with a number 1 are credit card chargebacks, the numbers beginning with a 6 are checks. About 95% + of our "chargebacks" are checks, and not actualy charge cards. Now I'm not sure, and I would love CCBill to clarify this, but when determining if you are over 1% threshold, do they count all chargebacks or just credit card chargebacks, because Visa can't be up in arms about checks since they have nothing to do with them.

I know CCBill used to have a policy to not allow CBs on a charge 60 days or older (give or take a week, but I think it was 60)

In fact, they were so adamant against it, the support people couldnt allow a 60+ day CB if they wanted to (the system wouldnt allow it)

but that was several years ago.. dont know what they do now

I got CBs for charges older than 60 days...When the customer calls the bank and says he didn't use the card, ccbill can't do much about it.

Hi again.. ....

Seems that there is such a thing as chargeback reversal. I mean if the ip matches the home address and cvv2 matches etc etc how can they be allowed to claim they didn't make the transaction. Someone broke into their home and just used their cc to buy a porn membership to my site? or else their son/husband used their card without asking....in which case they can foot the bill not me. A lot of these chargebacks i can see their username using up gigs of bandwidth which im sure would be the same ip they used to join and which matches their home address.....and some of these fuckers have been using up bandwidth month on month for free....aarrrgggghhh

I'm certain 3rd party billers could could follow these up. I know 99% of it is visa/mastercards fault but 3rd party billers should have a department that gets on top of these chargebacks and gets the reversals done, if that's not workable i'm certain there must be a company out there that just specializes in that kind of fraud. I know its not their fault really since i'm sure they don't like to loose their % of the sales, i guess it's cos porn is so sick and disgusting all the billers just have to kiss visa's/mastercards ass just to be allowed to process throught their systems, therefore they don't dare kick up too much fuss over the blatant fraud taking place.

Even before a chargeback can be made their bank has to make a chargeback request, giving the company an opportunity to refund or else contest this request. I'm certain that's how it works or it does for companies that ship out physical goods. I can't believe that with any transaction that is not point of sale related the customer can just say "nah never used that service or ordered that item" and the bank can just take the money from the merchants account.

Sure if it's like from some 3rd world country then yeah it's prob not worth going after it since it's a genuine fraud, but with the scrubbing databases these days not many of those get through.

I've heard of companies that buy chargebacks but i'm guessing that's only if you have your own merchant account,....ah well it's not just the lost money it's the feeling people are just getting away with fucking you over, all of the surfers out there are starting to get way to familiar with the chargeback scam......after all why pay when you can just say ...nope never joined/bought that?

Anyway i know next month when hopefully chargbacks are back below 0.4 it will seem less important. But then it will be some other poor webmasters turn to be getting a good fucking from these scammers. It's a pitty egold is not easier for people to get their hands on. It's the long winded process of getting hold of the egold that puts people off i'm sure, or some other system where chargebacks are not possible. ..ah well new month now so fingers crossed...thanks for all the replies....good luck to all the hardworking webmasters out there.

I know what you mean but most Creditors and banks will contact CCBill in the event of a CB and CCBill is always happy to fax them proof the disputer used their CVV2, matching info, etc....

In a perfect world it would be 100% but I guess <1% is all we can hope for
