I want in but I'm from a country without credit cards etc, and it would take me two months or so 'til I get the content / domain name registered. Would it be ok if I worked with someone else's content/domain?

Web space will be provided to all contestants. As far as content there are plenty of free content providers and many low cost content providers. This should not be a problem for serious contenders.

I don't mind paying a few bucks for the material or domain, but I have NO WAY to pay for that in such short time.. No CC's, wire transfer is possible only for receiving, no money can leave the country that way, and checks are damn slow.

okay, haven't quite absorbed all of this yet, but it looks like we're still missing some crucial elements... (unless I missed them along the way to the bottom here)

Things that are sticking out at me:

1. We got a voting start time, but not and ending time....

2. Have we figured out where the tours go after the vote? Gonna give 'em away somehow or something? Any thoughts?

3. Is the vote going to be handled purely by code, or will there be some sort of judges panel overseeing it?

4. Places.... 1st, 2nd, & 3rd sound good to everyone? (in both categories of course.... )

5. I guess if someone wants to sponsor a designer by providing content to work with for this, I don't personally see any reason why not.... I can't see why that would create any kind of a problem any more than going out and buying it would, so unless someone else can come up with a reason to not allow that, it's cool with me. But it should probably be noted or something "Sponsored by...." "Provided by...." or something like that.... because it IS a factor.... if I go out shopping and select the content I'm going to use, that's different than if someone emails you a couple of zip files to use.... no thought involved in that.

6. As far as the structure of the tour..... that's up to you. It can be a 3 page tour, it can be whatever you want.... if you wanna build a megasite, that's your choice.... as long as it's stays within the category rules....
Category 1: Pure graphics, (animated gifs are okay), HTML, javascripting, & css allowed.
Category 2: Flash.

No fucking databasing or weird plugin shit. Let's keep it simple.

7. No..... you can't submit a logo as an entry. You do a freakin' tour or you don't. And if you wanna make a one page tour, that's your choice, but you're cutting your own throat....

If some of you are in need of some content for the design. You can BORROW some from us.

But if the design are to be used after the competition with some of the pictures from us, the sets has to be bought.

I als thought that it should be a NEW design, not your best OLD design. With that in mind, I think we should setup 5 domains for people to choose from and they have to design for one of those domains. And the content should be contributed by a content provider and it has to be designed with that content. This would ensure that it's actually new.

exactly.... no pulling something out of a folio to submit.... it needs to be a fresh tour.... (fresh meaning brand spankin' new, not pre-done)

I like your idea there.... that solves the whole niche thing and all... choose from a preset group of domains and make the best tour you can from those... what's cool about that is more than one person might make tours for the same domain, and the voters would be able to make comparisons against the same point of reference....

Maybe the designs should be put on a auction on the board, and then the designer gets the money...

Or maybe LENSMAN should buy all the designs at some fixed priced (I.E 1 place 1000$ 2. place 750$ etc.)

This isn;t a bad idea and it makes sure there is a level playing field, but kinda like NASCAR with restrictor plates.

It does allow the desinger to really do thier thing if they can find content they fell they can work well with or if the domains are in a niche they excell in.

This however, and not to make this more compliated, might make a good 3rd catagory.

Since there's some nice prizes coming and all. I think (don't listen to me) it would be nice if there were some domains, like 5 Lensman said, and the design must be done to one of those sites with content provided by someone. Then the winning designs for each sites will just be chosen to be used on those sites if the sites go live, for free?. Just a primary suggestion.

Then again, if 'we' make designs for a ready domain, we should probably have some info on the sites, no?
Or can I put in the design "The site has gazillion videos of real virgins losing their virginity to Elvis and Jimi Hendrix". So if there's gonna be them ready-made domain names, there should also be a list of shit the site includes for the members? If one makes a site of his own it's easy to tell what's inside.

anyway.... moving on...

I'm just trying to sort this out and make this as non-complicated as possible here.... I kinda like the original plan.... designer chooses their own domain, content, all that..... that puts the whole process on the designer... ya know? If someone picks a shitty domain in a weird niche, then that's part of what they get judged on..... the "Brain" vote or something.... I think that's part of being creative... being able to pick a niche and choose the right content for it.... match up a domain..... all that.

is that a bad idea?

we already got 2 categories.... Flash & non-Flash.... hate to start adding yet even more to it....
