Okay.... I thought this was a cool idea... not to prove anything, but just for fun.

why the fuck not.....

How 'bout a good ol' fashioned GFY Graphic Designer Showdown..... :thumbsup
Nothing mandatory of course... anyone that wants to participate is more than welcome, and anyone that chooses to opt out, that's cool too.

Okay..... this may need some tweaking.... I'm just wingin' this here right now. And since we've all got other things going on, I modified the original formula a little.....

The Rules:

Must confirm participation by noon May 31st.
Competition begins at noon June 1st.
You have from now until then to prepare, or get a jump start if needed.
Can be any niche of your choosing, but must be an adult tour.
Competition ends June 7th at noon.
Tours must be uploaded & online when voting begins at 1pm June 7th.

One week.
One site.
One vote.

One week (7 days) to create the baddest fucking turnkey tour you can.

You use your own domain..... your own content..... doesn't have to be existing... you can have custom shoots done, or buy new or whatever.... but one week total time. On June 7th at 1pm, the tours get put to the test on a GFY wide vote. Voting will be on the following categories:

Overall Concept
Detailing
Skill
Clarity
Overall Flow
Color Matching
Kick Ass-itivity :eek7

Again..... if someone can come up with something that should be added to this thing.... anywhere in this thing..... speak up or shut up.

The Prize:

Top five winning tours could be auctioned off here or something.... or donated to someone or whatever.... perhaps Lens or someone would like to sponsor this event with a prize?? Maybe a button spot for a week or something?

just a suggestion guys..... some sort of prize would be a nice incentive to kick ass.... and I ain't Gates.

anyway..... if anyone wants to get in on this..... let yourself be known. Throw down the glove in a post and let's do it...... (and if we don't get at least five, then fuck it....)

IM IN.. i replied in the other thread too....

the only problem i have is that with different content.. and different niches it's like comparing apples and oranges.. if you really wanted to see what people can do with a project.. we should get one of the content providers to sponsor it with images.. so we all have the same set of 20 to choose from and perhaps even the site name to work off.. other wise the playing field isn't that level.. if you want more flexibility maybe two or three sitenames/genres to choose from...

either way im in.. :)

okay.... things are occuring to me after the fact here... so.....

Rule Amendment #1:

If you choose to participate, you MUST be the Designer. You cannot BUY/AND/OR CONTRACT a design from someone and post it as your own work.

I BE in maybe by that time i can design something worth a crap :)

Can I steal a design and post it as my own?

Rule Amendment #2

No Required Plugins in the design.
ie: Flash, Quicktime, etc

I considered that bhuto..... was one of the first things that came to mind.... BUT...... I think that by being able to choose any niche, that invokes maximum creativity.... makes it more challenging... :Graucho

A tour can't necessarily be discounted because someone doesn't like feet or something..... the particular niche isn't the point.... the design of the tour for that niche is what will separate the men from the boys...... :winkwink:

wtf??? flash is viewed by 96% of people - if we're pulling out all the stops and getting creative, and people can get their own content and choose their niche, then why not flash? c'mon you pussies. if we're going to play.. lets play.

theres not a thing horrible about flash... it's like saying html is horrible because you've seen bad html.

saying no to flash is like saying it can't be IE compatable.. more people don't have IE than don't have flash.

okay bhuto..... I'm struggling with this.... for several reasons...

namely, you and I both know that gifs can't even compete with Flash....
secondly, Flash can code up much more than anything done in html or java...
thirdly, not all designers work with Flash.... unfair advantage right off the bat...
fourthly... you were the one talking about apples and oranges.... c'mon man... Flash is like, Corvettes to '72 Pintos...

but ya know what.... go for it man..... use your stinkin' Flash bitch.
BUT...... you can only use pieces of it. You MAY NOT do the entire interface in Flash. And don't do over 50% of it either..... that's fair. (not really.... but it's as close to fair as it's ever gonna get)

The flash designers should go have their own competition.

LOL :).. ok ok.... how about a flash section/prize then? where it doesn't compete with pure html/gif?.. or maybe a size restraint.. ie the flash page can't be bigger than a html page.. (120k or whatever).. i'll settle for 40-50% flash.. but it would be cool to put the full mettle in and at least have a seperate section.. theres a bunch of flash designers here who would be eager to show their wares..

Okay.... I agree.... limiting the Flash is pointless.....

so.... let's split this..... (it's the only way)

2 Divisions/Categories.

Category 1: Pure Graphic/HTML
Category 2: Flash

If you do Flash work in your tour.... ANY Flash work..... you are automatically in Category 2.

The voting needs to be separate because they simply don't compare. So..... we got two votes.

Call 'em whatever you want... "Best Flash Designer" & "Best Graphics".... whatever..... I don't care.... as long as they're judged separately.

And this way, you can go balls out on the Flash too.

Now that's fair. :thumbsup

oh look..i agree.. flash IS apples and oranges.. plus you can do more with the filesize in flash.. but i thought that while we're being free and creative.. but yeah.. keep the flash seperate or down to even 20% - and have a seperate section for flash.. if there were a flash section there would have to be different judging rules though.. like extra points for small file size and whatever...

why don't you get people who want to be in the contest put something on the table as well

so the grand winner wins a ton of stuff

Keep it free. :) I want to see every single person who tried to brag about their design skills in this, regardless of how much money they have.

Winner gets bragging rights on GFY anyways. That in itself is a HUGE prize. :)

how about the entry fee is that along with your submitted tour, you must also submit your version of one GFY banner/button.... Lens gets his choice of which one's he wants free of charge. :winkwink:

Because, it makes it more fun. :) The real designers should have no problem competing with ANYONE who wants to enter.

Be interesting to see who steps up to the plate and who finds an excuse to get out of this. hehe.

Since there prolly will be alot of designs made i think we should do something with them as well.
