I didnt send them a dmca , i just posted an example of some names they might wanna remove from their search engine as a suggestion.. Its a pretty safe bet 99% of the names on that list content that showed up would NOT be posted by the copyright holder..

Its pretty simple , you cant host content you dont have permission from the copyright holder.. they can simply remove the names from that list that they DO have permission from the copyright holder to post.. ( cough cough ) if they want..

We both know its fairly obvious that the program would be basically unsellable without advertising items that are copyright directly beside it..

Do they charge the surfer a membership fee like a paysite does in order to view the content? Last time I ever went messing around in usenet it was free.

Every particle of my being as a webmaster says that it is fundamentally wrong to take or accept content that doesn't belong to you, set up a pay site or any type of pay interface, and then charge surfers money to view content that you don't personally own or have rights to.

Ya, sure, some may post a COUPLE pics to the newsgroups in order to get some traffic, BUT we're not talking about a couple pics here.

So lets see, I steal your content, put it up on a site, charge people money to access it easily and you think just because your url is on the content I stole from you that the surfer will join your site? LOL

GUBA may not be hosting the content (maybe some I'm not sure), but they are still profiting from someone elses work without prior permission. I guess because they're on newsgroups they are public domain? Fact is, sites like GUBA are nothing but thieves that don't want to have to really work to make money.

"hey! lets start a site where we make it easy for people to get all the porn they want from newsgroups and charge them money for it. Sure, we didn't buy the content or have the right to use it, but it's already all over the net so it's ok for us to use it to make money."

Defend them all you want. They are still thieves no matter what people say. It would be different if it was like this - They make a site that lets people access newsgroups BUT it's very specify.. (and it's free to join) when the surfer does a search it brings up 2 or 3 pics according to their search.. What the hell's the point?? Ok, no when the surfer clicks a link to a pic it brings him/her to an html page with the full size pic and a link like "See more of XXXXXX here".

So they would make money of sales to the actual site where those pics came from and there would be no stealing involved. Ya, they wouldn't be able to make an affiliate program, but hey, it's better than being a fucking thief and they would still make money.

Tell me, how is it NOT theft? Because they don't have the content on their server? Who gives a shit, it's still theft. They are just providing a way to easier access what is already there (on newsgroups)? Ya, and they're making money from other people's content.. If other webmasters started using stolen pics to make money we would get fried so why should it be any different for guba?

Oh but it's all the owners of that content putting up all their video and pic set for branding purposes so it's ok to use it..Tell me another one. At least 97% of the content posted on newgroups was posted by a surfer that joined a site, downloaded all the content. Is that what you would call the owner? Funny though, a webmaster cheats on a gallery submitted to tgps he gets blacklisted and in some cases his name is fucked.. Than we have guba who uses unlicensed content and make money from it, but that's ok? Fucking pathetic. Personally, if I owned a pay site and saw all my content on GUBA I would hired a hacker (easy to do around here) and have their server(s) fucked up badly.

Fred, it may or may not be legal within the limits of existing laws, I consider that opinion unconfirmed at present, but what I do know is that a thing can be "legal" and still be morally wrong either in whole or in part.

I'll "deal with it" by having nothing whatever to do with it, at least for now. And unless something or some piece of news comes along that changes my mind on this I won't be recommending them to anyone either, and will state publicly my opinion about this whenever and wherever I see fit.

Yes, they host the content locally on their servers, so they have to charge for bandwidth used.

Usenet is free, anyone with a decent ISP can download a news grabber and use their ISPs news servers. They are just not as reliable as these other services.

look at web.archive.org, they save images to their servers, or Google Web Accelerator which downloads the pages to their servers "to speed things up for you". Obviously GUBA is not alone, and crying won't do anything about it, especially crying on a message board.

GUBA needs to be banned from GFY, this is insane they are still allowed to advertise here. GFY is promoting theft of content and supporting their efforts to take money away from adult webmasters.

Those services aren't set up like pay sites, charging the surfer a membership fee to view other people's content.

Maybe you missed what I said earlier, I'll restate it for you..... Every fiber of my being as a webmaster says that it is fundamentally wrong to take, collect or accept content that doesn't belong to you, set up a pay site or any type of pay interface, and then charge the surfer money to view what amounts to content that you do not personally own or have rights to use.


That should be clear enough for you, shouldn't it?
