WTF ... did you miss this??

[10:44] EMG Ethan: Hello Chris
[10:44] prodiac: hows it going
[10:44] EMG Ethan: It's going ok, how are you?
[10:44] prodiac: alright
[10:45] EMG Ethan: I wanted to arrange for Joel to pick up that server again...
[10:45] EMG Ethan: actaully both servers
[10:46] prodiac: Okay, will you be cancelling service?
[10:46] EMG Ethan: Yes, but not until we pay the bill
[10:47] EMG Ethan: I assume the billing problem has been worked out, right?
[10:47] prodiac: I dont have that information, Jim talked with Billing, thats all I know, but I will find out information on if anything needs to be done before the servers are picked up, and I will get back to you shortly
[10:47] EMG Ethan: Ok, thanks Chris
[10:50] prodiac: Okay we will remove them and give them to the noc guys at the datacenter with instructions to provide them to Joel when he comes, I will let you know when they are ready for him.

At this point we removed the server like requested.

Now does this look like anything that was posted?

I would think it's a pretty obvious assumption that they should stay online until they are to be picked up, ESPECIALLY when told the contract won't be cancelled until it's paid up. Even with those logs I would be pissed if my servers were offline.

You need to step back and look at the big picture here. We never once shut off your server for non-payment, infact left them on even though we were not paid.
YOUR OWN EMPLOYEE requested we shut them down. Maybe you should call your guy and ask him?

Joel from SI will be posting shortly with how he found the servers when he arrived at the data center... he plugged them in there and waited for them to come up.... guess what? they did an fscked? 2 servers. why? cause they were not shut down, they were yanked from the power supply.

Because they're not using a journaling file system.

Been with phatservers far too long and they have been nothing but good to me.
Even if it were a simple miscommunication, there is no reason for you to be trying to drag them through the mud in an attempt at trying to keep yourself in the limelight.

Shutting down a Linux server by pulling the plug will never cause problems. Thats why you use Linux.

Seems pretty cut and dry that Epic did not make a mistake. NO Where in there does it say pull the plug right now. It says " Not unitl we pay the bill "

thats all i would expect from this shitty company. I professional response in a situation like this from them would have been great.. But that didnt happen.

I am openly admitting my company missed an invoice for $300. no one is disputing that.

my issue is the way it was delt with.

do you just yank the fucking plug ona server when a customer tells you they are leaving?

honestly?

Nothing like cutting out the most important part of the conversation:

OK we will remove them. When?? NOW?? Before the bill is paid??? Nope. He is clearly told NOT to do anything until the bill is paid.

In my opinion both sides made bad communication and decisions. I just didn't think it needed to be further muddied by selectively quoting the conversation

Notice where chris says i will get back to you "shortly" wich was 3 minutes later saying everything was worked out and the servers would be removed.

Stop trying to make something out of this that isn't.

Root passwords did not work, and by the time they needed to come down Ethan was not around to provide them. The boxes were powered down. nothing "yanked".

[10:46] EMG Ethan: Yes, but not until we pay the bill

This very easy to understand. Ethan says they will pay the bill and asks if billing has been worked out. Chris says he doesn?t know but will find out. He finds out, and tells Ethan they will remove the machines and get them ready. Which means Chris talked to Billing/Mike, all is good, so Chris tells him he will take the machine down.

Pretty damn cut and dry.

You guys do understand that they took the machines down, to get them ready for YOU, without you having to pay the bill before hand? That's good business, not bad business.

IE: "but I will find out information on if anything needs to be done before the servers are picked up"

Seeming the servers were taken down, as stated:
[10:45] EMG Ethan: I wanted to arrange for Joel to pick up that server again...
[10:45] EMG Ethan: actaully both servers

This means, we are coming down to pick the servers up, both servers.
