Wow! eating steamed steak...so juicy..first time I tried

I've experimenting with this new cooking thingy I put together that uses steam to cook. I cook the food right on the plate or bowl.

I've been using it for only eggs(over easy) and it's great with no dirty skillet or grease. So tonight I thought I would try something real like a steak.

WOW is it GOOOODDDDD!!!!!

About 12 minutes uncovered(6 each side) and 4 mins covered.
It's medium rare like you wouldn't believe.
Too bad I chose a round cut; didn't want to ruin a $12 T-bone ya know.

I think I found my new way of cooking. yumyumyum!!!:food-smil

How does it look? Would it look scary at a restaurant?

Nice and red in the middle with juices running out with every cut.
The surface is medium brown; obviously not fried when you see it.
But none of that "burned" taste you get some time on the surface.

Some think that the fried steak create cancer causing substances; I don't know but none of that here.

Try it!!

But I'm thinking that if you like your steak well done then this may not be so good. I would have to try it. Over steamed meat might be like boiling which is a no go for me.

My only worry is to steam it enough. A skillet will kill any e-coli on the steak but I don't exactly know the limits of steam. I know it will burn the shit out of me if it hits my hand when I remove the plate. Phew is it ever hot!!!

When in new zealand on a trip one of the places I stayed was with the Kiwis at their church. They made this bread in the ground that was steamed. It was the best bread I have ever had. If anyone knows of something like this please let me know ...

We used to steam filet mignon in the restaurant from time to time as a special. It is best to make sure the steam is not too pressurized but it can be quite good. We also used to poach filet mignon steaks in cabernet wine and that was good.

You are more than safe there. The temp of steam is plenty hot to kill off the pesky bacteria.

its frying in general that CAN cause cancer, obviously when u eat loads and loads of fried stuff all day.
Its the crispy layer frying creates around some kinds of food when u fry it, ie french fries too. Also potato chips works the same way u know, the same crispy process i guess.

But all those 'could cause cancer'-things dont matter when u have a normal way of eating.

Steam cooked to MW would not work. It would be tough. I'd say no more than MR.

well you can put it in a cast iron skillet to sear it and then put it in the oven.
my favorite way to have steak is to get a nice 1"-1 1/2" thick boneless ribeye put kosher salt all over it and slap it on the grill til its medium rare. YUM

My father owns a wholesale meat company and we make the best 3 minute microwave steaks...

we start by grilling the prime New York strip or Ribeye for 1.5 minutes on each side to get it started, then it goes into a cryosealed bag with some sesame oil, salt, garlic, pepper and it's sealed up into an individual package and frozen.

Pop one of these into the microwave for 2.5 to 3 minutes and be prepared for the tastiest steak you've had in awhile. The marinade is half the trick, but you would never believe it was microwaved.

Haha. Unless you're buying organic only, you're still pumping in plenty of "poisons".

I don't know if I believe all the hype about chemicals and such doing harmful things to the body. I mean sure, I don't doubt it, but this is also something extremely hard to compare. People say "this many people didn't get cancer 70 years ago!" And yeh, that is true, but you also have to look at how many things are different now from 70 years ago. Today, people are living that never would have "made it" 70 years ago. Medical science is simply amazing.

I'll just go about my day doing the things I like doing and enjoying my life. The risk of cancer isn't going to keep me from eating steak. Steak is too damn good. And if I get cancer in 15 years at least I'll be able to say I enjoyed my steak over those 15 years. ;-)

Problem you will run into is the term Organic.
To be "certified organic" by the FDA.
The USDA requires certified organic crops "be produced without pesticides, herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, bioengineering or ionizing radiation." Farmers must use organic seeds and may not apply "prohibited substances" (i.e., pesticides, synthetic fertilizers) to the land for at least three years before the harvest of an organic crop.
Additionally, organically raised animals must be given organic feed only, kept free of growth hormones and antibiotics and have access to the outdoors.

And don't confuse the term "natural" with "organic." They're not interchangeable. Natural foods are typically made without additives or preservatives, but they may still contain chemicals, pesticides or genetically engineered components.

Other terms are scetchy at best (label laws are funny things).
