Any handgun carriers here?

Im buying a handgun in the next week or two. Im getting a conceal permit, but dont want to shove the thing in my pants, as Im fond of my penis staying where its supposed to.

Any thoughts on a good way to carry it? Ive been told certain fanny packs are made for them, but fanny packs are horrid.

What you should get are one of those calf holsters, those seem cool and are pretty concealed. That's what I'd get, BUT then again, it depends on the size of the gun that you're getting.

Get yourself a .9 mm glock and carry it in the small of your back, there are holsters for this, you'll have to wear a jacket or some kind of jersey (even a loose t-shirt should do).

that's probably the best place you can use, a shoulder holster will call for you to use an open jacket of some kind at all times.

An ankle holster is good for your backup weapon, but not at a grasp for your main...

yes, small of your back is optimal as your shirt hangs over it and there is a niche as to not show a bulge... if you are wearing a jacket then shoulder holster is best so you dont have to fight thru 3 layers of clothes to grab your gat...

I have to disagree with both the shoulder holster and the small of your back thing. While both are comfortable, most of the time, they both have problems.
The shoulder holster sucks when you get warm. You can not just shed your jacket while in the mall. Also, as K-Man pointed out... grabbing through the layers can be a pain. In most cases you are not very calm when you have to reach for your piece. Trust me on this.

Now, the back thing. This is bar far the most comfortable place and way to carry. It was my choice for a long, long time until I was in a bar fight and I watched a friend get picked up and thrown down onto a pool table. He had a small S&W 9mm tucked in his back and when he hit the table, it pushed back into his spine. He was in a wheelchair for almost 2 years and still has trouble walking today.

After seeing that, I switched to a paddle holster and carry inside the pants on my right hip. The holster clip is small and blends in with the cell phone. I usually carry a Sig P228 which is a full sized auto and I have no problems concealing it even with just a t-shirt.

One suggestion, while in your car keep the pistol visible and make sure you have your permit handy. Here in oregon I found out how the paint on my trunk looks at a very close up view. I got pulled over for bad lane change and the police had it on file that I had a concealed weapons permit, they did not see it when they approached the car so they rpoceeded to slam me on the trunk and search the car, it was under the seat. After playing bad asses they finally let me go with a traffic warning and a lecture about pistols.

I always liked to slip my colt 380 right in my back pocket with no holster and NO round in the chamber, thus eliminating any chance of shooting myself in the ass or leg!
However now I don't need to carry one but I still keep one in my vehicle. Here in Florida it's legal to carry a handgun in your vehicle if you do it in the correct manner.

Inside the pants is the best way to go. I have had a concealed carry permit for 18 years, and have carried a concealed handgun in every way possible. Strap a gun to your ankle and wear it for several hours- i guarantee you will not like it. Shoulder holsters are impractical in warm weather, and sticking a gun in your back pocket leaves a nice signature for everyone to see. Small of back holsters suck to wear if you need to sit for any length of time, not to mention you need a jacket to hide it and can't reach the gun easy when sitting down. Get yourself a nice inside the waistband holster that you can wear on your strong side just behind the hipbone. You will be able to conceal a good size handgun with your shirt untucked in any weather.

You have a Concealed Handgun License in Oregon and you give this advice? Did you even pay attention in the class? According to Oregon law, if the weapon is visable at any time, it is considered "brandishing a weapon" and you can and will lose your license and your gun for it.

Oregon Law requires you to have your Drivers License and Handgun License ready for the officer when he gets to your window. You are to inform him that you are carrying and tell him where the weapon is. If your gun had been visable, that makes it easier to reach and you most likely would have been pulled out at gunpoint.

Bad advice my friend.

similiar in washington state.

techinically in WA...to have a handgun in a holster that exposes the handle in plain few is considered brandishing a firearm...which forces every hand gun owner to have a CWP.

Exactly my point. Same law in Oregon. WA has concealed weapons permits though. In Oregon, ours is a Concealed Handgun License so we are more limited. It sucks.
The cool thing is that both OR and WA have an agreement that lets a "permit" holder take the permit from one state, present it to the other state, and they can automatically get that other states permit. Also, the Oregon License carries over to a handful of other states without needing to register with the individual states. The only fucked up thing is that there is a gray area when it comes to the transportation of a loaded weapon across state lines. By law, I have to unload, cross the line, then I can reload. What kind of stupid shit is that?

Then there is the issue of "Bail Enforcement" officers or bounty hunters to most people. There are currently no laws requiring training or registration for this although they are currently attempting to pass them. Outstanding training and certification is available from a company in AZ.

Oregon does not allow bail bondsman to do business in the state but Washington does and any idiot who gets a job with a bail agent can carry "exotic' weapons without a fucking license. Most of the bail companies do not even do a thorough background check on their employees. This is a fucking time bomb that is long overdue for explosion. I fully support the laws they are attempting to pass on this.

Dude I never even had the chance to say anything until my teeth were in the trunk lid, The officer told me in his little lecture if the pistol was in the holster on the seat or floor of my car that would be prefered. Just going off what he told me.
I do know that the law for my county says that if you have the permit any pistols must be on the permit holders person or the permit holder must be in the vehicle at all times that the pistol is there. It does not have to be "concealed" from view unless you are away from the vehicle and leave the pistol there.

I am not sure what county you are in but the STATE law is very different. You might want to buy this book and study up a bit so you can keep yourself out of trouble. If I were you, I would contact my attorney abou that cop. Unless there is more to your story than you have let us in on.

Here in Louisiana you can carry a pistol on your person almost anywhere as long as it's visible. I used to carry a 9mm on a hip holster (I thought it was cool for some stupid reason back then). I only see people doing this every blue moon now as most places have the little sign.

A business has to either put up a no weapons sign or personally come up to you and ask for you to remove the weapon from the place.
There are several types of buildings that are listed as being off limits to weapons (most are common sense), federal buildings, post office, hospitals, banks, any place that sells ammo, any place that sells booze, schools.

Here, your car is an extension of your home and you can carry a weapon anywhere in the vehicle (visible or not). However I learned that you should tell the police, if they pull you over, about the weapon the second they appear at the window.

They also offer concealed permits here but I've heard they are so hard to get that I've never bothered applying for one.

Funny shit man.
The American goverment always says the dutch goverment sucks because we allow canabis and hookers.
But guns are really illegal here.

What is worse?
Some people smoking a joint or doing a hooker or some idiots running around with a handgun?

The playboy is hidden behind the newspaper but you can buy a gun at every store around the corner.

I never heard the US government say anything about the Dutch. In fact, I dont remember the last time anyone cared to mention the Dutch. You cannot buy a gun on every corner in the US. What the hell do you do all day ? Do you sit around watching reruns of Jerry Springer and Miami Vice - then you think you know everything ?

I actually had a guy from the Netherlands tell me that he knows all about the US because he watches Jerry Springer. Can you believe that shit ? It just proves all countries have one thing in common - assholes and idiots.

I know you can't get a gun in every store around you.
But finding a store that sells guns won't take you long.
I think you can find a place to buy a gun faster then you can find a hooker.

And I guarantee you that there has been alot of bitching about our drug policies.

You can get a Smith and Wesson Airweight Model 37 for around $300 if you look around a little. It weighs only 15 oz. and shoots .38 caliber. Its so light you don't notice it. Very smooth trigger.

I also have SIGP229, excellent gun. I can switch barrels and shoot .40 cal, 9mm or.357SIG out of the same gun.

I have a concealed weapon permit and can legally carry in most states in the Southeast. Each state respects the neighboring state's certification. In Tennessee the law provides that the gun doesn't *have* to be concealed,so if it shows when you bend over etc you don't get in trouble.

Get a snubnosed .38 in your pocket. It will get you out of a tough spot and to your bigger weapon if needed.

Im actually a really good aim but I recently shot a Highway Patrolman's 357 and I couldnt
hit a dirt mound 6 feet high ( I wish I was exaggerating ). Five minutes after shooting
the 357 I shot a S&W .45 with a 7 1/2 inch barrel and had a perfect group.

SIG357 is right on with the .38 but I swear I personally couldnt hit the pavement with
a short barrel gun. I dont get it.. give me a rifle, shotgun, or .45 and Im dead on but
I shoot like a blindman if you hand me a snubnose.

Most encounters happen at point blank range, within 3 or 4 feet. Often the gun is not even fired. If you are carrying a gun make sure it is one you will always have with you. Heavy guns tend to be left at home. Some people are very accurate with snubnosed .38s. Practice will cure the problem.

Maybe you can answer a question for me... I was in the market for the P229 because of the optional barrel feature you have mentioned. When I went to the gun store, they informed me that although the gun is available in all 3 calibers, only the 9mm and the .40 cal barrels are interchangeable. They told me that the SIG357 barrel will not work on the other two models because of a small variation on the frame of the SIG357 version. Your post says differently. This is from a very reputable gun shop. Are they incorrect? Do you actually own all 3 barrels and if so have you used them?

North america's AIDS rate is several times that of the netherlands.. in fact according to this: http://www.overpopulation.com/faq/he...h_america.html http://www.overpopulation.com/faq/he...ds/europe.html

the US has a 4.5 times greater proportion of AID sufferers compared to the netherlands.... so you get AIDS/HIV *AND* a Beretta AL 391

drug laws in america have a lot to do with your aids problem too... because of the BS "war on drugs" you don't have things like needle exchange programs which severely limit the spread of aids amongst intravenous drug users.. America's fastest growing proportion of AIDS victims..

you probably haven't seen much regarding America's interfering with other countries drug policies because it's not exciting enough to show on CNN or whatever, your drug czars are totally fucking out of line interfering in other people's business.. when Australia wanted to liberalise our drug laws further, your fuckwits over there lobbied the pharmaceutical industry to hold up our morphine contract (Tasmania provides vast amounts of medical opiates to the US - worth millions and millions) and made tearing motions until we backed down.. because any backdown in the western war on drugs makes america look bad or out of step..

So any country that dares step out of line gets their internal politics rubbed on the nuts..... time i think we send a crack team of aussies over there to mess with *your* drug politics and get you to drink real beer! :P

i also think you'll find that because the netherland's prostitutes are legal, they're better regulated and use more protection than their US counterparts.. just like here in OZ.. you can't even get a blowjob without a condom..

Sleepy, the reason who have problems hitting the target with "snubguns" is because the shorter the sight radius(distance between front and rear sight), the more your errors in sight alignment are amplified.

Your nick fits you well.
I guess when something beside jerry springer and david letterman is on tv you are sleeping.
We have less drug addicts and we have less HIV infected people and less murders.
Beside that I don't think it is fun to make fun of HIV.
I don't say we are better then the USA or whatever but don't say dumb things mr. zzzzz.

Gotta agree with you, SR.
I moved to Amsterdam 20 years ago, from a country even more gun-crazy and violent than the States, and I'll never leave here.

Bullshit, everytime someone from the Netherlands gets the chance, they take a cheap shot at the United States. This thread is a perfect example. The thread has nothing to do with hookers or drugs but you turned it into a chance to put America down. Dont try to act like you dont hate Americans because I know better. I have people in the Netherlands who work for me and they already told me how your country hates Americans. You take a cheap shot at my country, Im going to take a cheap shot a yours. You drew first blood.

bhutocracy, your stats would really prove me wrong if todays date was 1998. Netherlands HIV problem has gotten to the point where they have seriously considered outlawing prostitution. They have also considered testing potential immigrants for HIV and basing the application for citizenship on the results.
