I found a great solution for our house. She usually sleeps in til about 2-3pm...and I usually wake up VERY early cause of my insomnia (about 4 hours of sleep a night)...so I just bust ass from about 9am-1pm and get everything done that requires tons of attention...then when she wakes up I can do shit with her and do that half assed work thing at the same time

I get the same thing..... "Quit playing on your computer", "Who are you talking to now", "You pay more attention to your online girlfriend than me"..... and so forth, lol. That's why I have an office now

If I am working at home I go in the den and shut the door.... she knows I'm working for real then. I finally showed the gf what all I do online and that chatting with people IS a part of my job.... she is a lot more understanding now.

Set yourself a strict schedule for WORK and only work. During those hours, she can phone you, and you will be home on time, and even come home for LUNCH break as well ;)

Seriously, seperate work from non-work in no uncertain terms somehow. Get a hat made that says AT WORK and wear it while busy or something.. Get a door for your office.. a home intercom.. something so there is a clear line.

my wife doesn't mind the fact I do look at naked girls all day, just cause I love her and would never think about being with another woman...we are secure like that

but oh shit...the one day I found this kickass wallpaper with a naked chick on it...that lasted about 1 hour...i guess it is one thing to do work and sort pics and design shit with girls on it...but a static wallpaper is way different to her...

i have done that...i even tried to show her how to do shit...she didn't get it one bit..she couldn't understand any code or anything...but back then still that didn't matter

the biggest impact was when she saw income go down cause of fucking off with her all day....when the women see that income go down, THAT is what they understand the most

I not only caught heat for that EVERY SINGLE DAY, but she would look over my shoulder every time I started typing trying to see who I was talking to and what I was saying.

I'm like 'Can you see the room full of employees? Do you like your Coach and Gucci purses?? Then LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE AND LET ME WORK!!!!'. Drove me nuts and she never could get over it, eventually one of the things that split us up. Next time I have a serious gf I'm getting office space so I can just get out of sight.

I am like three months away from where you are. I am getting a new house built with a private office over the garage only accessible through the master bedroom. I cannot afford a week of down time. My wife is also a "stay at home mom". Hopefully, she will understand that I will not be able to help around the house until I am fully settled in my office.

OH man, I feel for ya.. My ex gfriend was that way.. Even back in the day when I was solo and pulling down mad personal cash, she was then and until I left her set that I spent time online to just chat, bs, etc.. It's all fun and games moreless to her.

Damn damn damn glad Kristin isn't that way. Well, not really at least.. She just says I should work more and play less golf. I don't think 2 hours a day at the course is to much to ask

i have the same problem, just because i work with a learned skill i am not "working as hard". maybe if they werent fucking around in high school trying to look pretty they would also have a skill.

many people think because you work at home it is much easier, but i have spent over 8-9 years learning the skills i know today. i would like people to spend that amount of time learing something then come talk to me.

my ex was really bad for this, just because i get to set my own hours doesnt mean i am not working. i sacrificed long time ago and i deserve to work from home. "come grab me from work you are at home" like they can just phone me in the middle of the day and expect a ride.

1) Make a designated office spot in your house
2) Randomly bitch about nonsense, and how difficult your current project is.
3) Tell her to fuck off on days you feel like you have a lot of work
4) Show some physical wearage by missing some sleep and having it show

A lot to do, but probably worth being able to work out of your own home.
If all fails, choke the bitch. Hope this helps.

It's not just a wife thing. My husband and I bought a house last year and he seems to think that I have tons of time for house projects in between working. He doesn't understand why I can't paint, plumb, stain, plant, weed, mow, blow, etc. while I'm working.

Now that the money shows how much time I'm spending on the house he's getting better about helping on weekends and evenings.

It's really a matter of setting up a system that works for both of you and sticking to it. When hubby works from home it's hard to remember not to interrupt him with little projects or questions I have. But as long as we're reminding each other nicely, it works for us.

Just make them feel little guilty , they will be quiet. The other option is getting an office space outside of your home. But I would rather invest that rent into something that would make me more money .

He has a wife who doesn't have to work, gets to live in a fabulous house, and spend her motherly time with her children. Her husband pays all of the bills and doesn't have to spend all of his time away from the house just to make shit money.

But yet, she complains.....

I had a woman just like that. She would complain and complain all day about what I was doing and how she wanted me to help her do shit around the house and I told her straight out that if she wanted some equality, then she could get up off of her lazy ass and go to WORK! But that never happened. She'd rather complain and then stick her hand out for some money.

So I told her she had to go and after a bitter divorce, I'm not looking back. I'm not about to let a woman and NAG me into an early grave because she wants to bitch about shit that isn't even fucking important. I have better things to do with my life.

Now she gets up and goes to work every day because she HAS to in order to pay her own bills. She wants me to come live with her and pay the bills but I told her she could keep that shit. I'm gonna move to her city, get my own place, get my children everything they need, and spend the rest of the money on ME. And I make sure to rub it in too when she complains about her job and then I tell her about how easy my life is right now.

Which goes back to my original point that Yo Adrian is FUCKED.....And then if she divorces him, she'll call him a "dirty pornographer" and that he "hates women" and blase blah....It happened to me.

hmm I feel lucky after reading this thread. My wife knows where the money comes from. She rarely complains, I work at home but she knows we have 35 employees and that they need me from 9-5. I suggest a good open honest conversation, or a therapy, if you want to keep your relationship happy

Sometimes they just want to know that you are paying some attention to them, No one wants to be ignored. I just try a little give and take. Also one of the benefits of working at home is no commute time.. think about how long it would take you to get to an office, and spend that ammount of time each day workorking on something your wife wants. Its all about give and take. And yes CHATTING is part of your work. You can also when they ask you to do something say I am busy rigth now but when I get done I can help you with what you want. Hope that helps, There are a lot of good things and some bad things about workign from home. I have been doing it for 8 yeas now and am super happy witht he extra free time I get from not commuting !

We are on a team and each of us plays different positions in order to win.

My wife fully understands my need to work and NEVER complains about me working wile she cooks dinner etc. She also is a great digital video editor and sometimes I make dinner so she can work late

HOLY CRAP this shit can drive me insane sometimes. My gf got used to eat already, but I had my share from her, pretty much just like you described. When her mom visits it's even worse. To some people the notion of being home means laziness, etc.

In the past 2 weeks we've tried to implement a new rule where at 7 PM the door to my home office closes. It's great! Not only do we spend more time together, I find that I'm more productive during the day and sleep much better. Try it.

I recently told her, AGAIN, my work schedule is Mon-Thurs 9-5pm, Fri 9-12...

as soon as I get further on a few projects I'm going to do the outside office thing...last time I brought it up (few years back) she begged me not to cuz she'd never see me, bla bla bla, personally I think it's unhealthy to see eachother TOO much, sounds like you're suffering from that...

the only saving grace for my situation is that recently she went back to work 4 days a week, prior to that when she was doing the stay at home Mommy thing life was MUCH more hellish on the work schedule...

good luck to you, set some boundaries, explain to her that 'sales and customer support in or OUT of the house requires chatting'....psychologists CHAT, mechanics CHAT, doctors CHAT, insurance salesmen CHAT, real estate agents CHAT...if she wants you to get a NON-chat job, that's called being a MONK...

oi...anyways, good luck again, and work on setting the boundaries and/or getting an outside office

I'm like 'Can you see the room full of employees? Do you like your Coach and Gucci purses?? Then LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE AND LET ME WORK!!!!'. Drove me nuts and she never could get over it, eventually one of the things that split us up. Next time I have a serious gf I'm getting office space so I can just get out of sight.

MetaMan I AM WEB 2.0 Industry Role: Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 28,682	i have the same problem, just because i work with a learned skill i am not "working as hard". maybe if they werent fucking around in high school trying to look pretty they would also have a skill. many people think because you work at home it is much easier, but i have spent over 8-9 years learning the skills i know today. i would like people to spend that amount of time learing something then come talk to me. my ex was really bad for this, just because i get to set my own hours doesnt mean i am not working. i sacrificed long time ago and i deserve to work from home. "come grab me from work you are at home" like they can just phone me in the middle of the day and expect a ride.

My husband and I bought a house last year and he seems to think that I have tons of time for house projects in between working. He doesn't understand why I can't paint, plumb, stain, plant, weed, mow, blow, etc. while I'm working. Now that the money shows how much time I'm spending on the house he's getting better about helping on weekends and evenings. It's really a matter of setting up a system that works for both of you and sticking to it. When hubby works from home it's hard to remember not to interrupt him with little projects or questions I have. MY GF bitches about it time to time. but I tell her unless I sit infront of my machines, I can't help her through college or let her go shoe shopping . Just make them feel little guilty , they will be quiet. The other option is getting an office space outside of your home. But I would rather invest that rent into something that would make me more money .

She rarely complains, I work at home but she knows we have 35 employees and that they need me from 9-5. I suggest a good open honest conversation, or a therapy, if you want to keep your relationship happy Sometimes they just want to know that you are paying some attention to them, No one wants to be ignored. I just try a little give and take. Also one of the benefits of working at home is no commute time.. think about how long it would take you to get to an office, and spend that ammount of time each day workorking on something your wife wants. Its all about give and take. And yes CHATTING is part of your work. You can also when they ask you to do something say I am busy rigth now but when I get done I can help you with what you want. Hope that helps, There are a lot of good things and some bad things about workign from home. I have been doing it for 8 yeas now and am super happy witht he extra free time I get from not commuting !

I recently told her, AGAIN, my work schedule is Mon-Thurs 9-5pm, Fri 9-12... as soon as I get further on a few projects I'm going to do the outside office thing...last time I brought it up (few years back) she begged me not to cuz she'd never see me, bla bla bla, personally I think it's unhealthy to see eachother TOO much, sounds like you're suffering from that... the only saving grace for my situation is that recently she went back to work 4 days a week, prior to that when she was doing the stay at home Mommy thing life was MUCH more hellish on the work schedule... good luck to you, set some boundaries, explain to her that 'sales and customer support in or OUT of the house requires chatting'....psychologists CHAT, mechanics CHAT, doctors CHAT, insurance salesmen CHAT, real estate agents CHAT...if she wants you to get a NON-chat job, that's called being a MONK... oi...anyways, good luck again, and work on setting the boundaries and/or getting an outside office __________________ Investor with 5m - 15m USD to invest.
