My Experience with RealityCheckNetwork

RCN was recommended to me by a friend and since I've been looking to buy a dedicated server with quality hosting I decided to give them a try.
I got on icq with their sales rep and said about my budget and got offered a server on that budget. Everything seemed so fine, knowing they offer fully managed

support on all of their hosting plans.

My content and TGP sites got transferred from the old hosting and I changed NS info for the domain and cancelled the old hosting.

There we go. I had icq support while moving, then after I switched it disappeared. My first question was - what's going on? I'm even not fully configured on my

server. The reply was like: you're not a managed customer, if you want support then go and purchase support package and will only be supported via email in a

"timely" manner. That was a news for me.

So I received a unmanaged server for pretty high price for unmanaged servers. And recently been suggested by zagi@RCN to move to another good host.

My current problem is that 15 hours ago I requested a password change to my server via email and 12 hours ago it has been completed (it took 3 hours to change a

pass - talking about support in a timely manner), and the problem is that I never received that NEW password. So in the past 12 hours I've been trying to contact via

email/icq with their support, but it appears I'm on a complete ignore.

They don't reply on icq and even via email. I can't access my server.

I have asked a guy who's customer with them to send a message to them, and they got back to him, so I confirmed I'm on a total ignore now.

Now ask me why do I feel so bad.

If you don't know me, perhaps you heard about sites I run like: sunporno.com, two-lips.com, twilightsex.com and a number of others.

Thats a bummer...
Happened to me with another reputable company too. I wouldn't be calling names tho'..

But switched to serverprovider.com and support was there when I needed it. And they got a kick ass control panel there, with all the possible options you can think off. Its been about 5 days now and not a single problem.

on side I agree with you, you get what you pay for.
But on another side.. If they told him that he is getting a managed account, how come he didn't? I'd fucking fire that sales rep who did that dirty trick to a customer.

I've been using RCN for awhile and always been VERY happy with their support, but I'll admit, sometimes you just need to call them to get things going quickly: (866) RCN - HOST :: (866) 726 4678

Their sales manager talks pretty rude and not willing to negotiate. Does it show they have too many customers now ?

Look we pay our bills on time every time ... NOBODY can tell otherwise.

We just like to receive what we paid for.
If they like us to move because zagi don't likes the deal Moisey made with us then he will have to pay us for the lost time (move to RCN after we made a deal, and the move out again, included TM3 move fees etc ...) and repay us the bill we allready paid.

We have a business to run here not a childgarden.

Good luck sir, I like your sites, very nice quality.

When your budget is better, take a look at www.isprime.com DO a search for them, only good posts about them.

Not the cheapest, but no hidden costs, like you experience now..

And FAST support, all issues within minutes...

Good luck fixing it tho

I haven't had any bad experience with RCN at all. Ben is always there to help me out and otherwise support is on ICQ 24/7. I understand hosting troubles can be frustrating so I hope it gets solved soon.

I'm not a big client at all and RCN takes great care of me so I'm wondering why they would treat you guys so badly.

Ive been with RealityCheck since its founding and never had a problem with dealing with any of their staff for issues. I've known the guys for years and you arent going to find a better tech that knows their shit inside and out.

Each person has a different view on what they see.

Our sales reps have discussed this matter with design and we thought we had reached an understanding. We believe in our service and we have plenty of satisfied customers, however if design is unsatisfied we will offer him a full refund, even though he has pushed traffic for the month.

Reaching an understanding? you mean that you told like some dictators that we have to pay extra for support or find another host.
Is that what you call "Reaching an understanding" ??

Moisey, at the start you made a deal with design. yes or no?
You never mentioned that no support was included in the deal. yes or no?
ALL your packages have it ...

Now take your responsibility and just do what you agreed ... that means ICQ support included. And please don't start that shit about only mail support ... it took 14 hour to change a simple password when we asked thru mail.

So cut the bullshit and just do what we agreed.

If not ... just a refund will not be enough ... we have other costs like TM3 move fees etc ... If you made a mistake and made a deal your boss doesn't like, well that's your problem not ours.

Cut the bullsit man ...

What you just told here is that even a f*cking virtual account has icq support there.

We talk about a dedicated server here dude, and no icq support included ??

It's like you ask a BMW dealer for a good price ... he cuts a few dollars and when the car is ready for delivery you see there is no f*cking engine in the car ??????????

This is bullsh*t and they now it ...

We have tried to discuss this matter privately with the customer but he has refused to act in a professional matter, he acted hastily and did not attempt to resolve this matter.

Initially the client was offered a discounted rate on his server, and he was happy to accept. We then proceeded to transfer his sites, showing that he did receive a managed server and support. We got him setup, and he has since updated his DNS and is pushing traffic for well over two weeks.

He could not make up his mind on what he needed done and would constantly barrage support with duplicate requests and a ungraceful attitude. This prompted us to remove managed services from his account to protect our employees.

We offered him an option to receive support but for a fee, as his requests were extraneous over any other customer. We feel justified in requesting additional service revenue from this client as he was given a special deal.

At this time, we have come to a conclusion and will be refunding him
$400 for dedicated server fees
$100 for trade script fees

This is strictly a business decision and unfortunately we were unable to come to an agreement with this client in particular.

You tried to discuss it privately with the client?

Telling us like a tyrant ... pay for support or look for another host, is that what you call discuss? It was your way or no way.

We asked for a nice rate and you gave one ... managed service icq support included. Yes or no?

It's normal that after a server move support is more needed because all have to be in place as needed ... correct? tell us what was that support about
Do you think we need support if all is okay?

Then you started to ignore us and then the bullshit started.
Because of your post where you made yourself look like J.Christ himself I have to post a bit of the ICQ logs.

This is a some of the icq conversation ...

23:58] zagi @ RCN: hi
[23:58] design: hi
[23:58] zagi @ RCN: yeah just wanted to get in touch with you and explain about the unmanaged service
[23:58] design: go ahead
[23:59] zagi @ RCN: we can't provide support on a 5mbps server for $400/month as that is not our business model - we are more than glad to provide network connectivity/server to you and will be held responsible for all of that
[00:00] zagi @ RCN: it is your responsibility to manage the server and all day to day operations such as user/password additions, domain/email/stats packages additions, script/database installs and more
[00:00] design: sounds like you're ready to let me go
[00:01] zagi @ RCN: just trying to explain to you that the service we provide we can not do it for free as we provide top notch work that covers all your bases
[00:02] design: this was not mentioned when I was getting a server with RCN. nobody ever mentioned its going unmanaged and your site says ALL accounts are going on same level of support. no matter if its cheap virtual one or dedicated server.
[00:03] design: this is why I tried to deal
[00:03] zagi @ RCN: yes but you have a special plan, 5mbps for $400
[00:03] design: and asked for good price.
[00:03] zagi @ RCN: we can't support your infrastructure currently
[00:06] zagi @ RCN: i think your best bet is to switch to another good host
[00:06] zagi @ RCN: there are plenty that will do $400 on 5mbps
[00:07] zagi @ RCN: you can continue to email us [email protected]
[00:08] design: how much is managed solution, sir.
[00:09] design: how so?
[00:09] zagi @ RCN: this way everyone is happy, we dont want to force you to pay more for no reason and we also would prefer to receive requests over email -its the best solution
[00:10] design: please talk more nicely to me. im still your customer duud
[00:11] zagi @ RCN: ok i hope i didn't say anything bad
[00:11] zagi @ RCN: just email for future support once you are certain of what you need and we'll assist you in a timely manner so long as its a proper request
[00:11] design: no, but you didn't reply on my question.
[00:12] zagi @ RCN: the support package for ICQ is $150/month
[00:13] design: http://www.realitychecknetwork.com/d...Mbps%20Special does this plan include icq aupport
[00:16] design: hello ?
[00:21] zagi @ RCN: yes
[00:21] zagi @ RCN: it supports ICQ
[00:22] design: so will it cost more expensive for me ?
[00:22] zagi @ RCN: if you go ahead and signup using that form we'll activate it as of now, and charge you starting next month the specifed rate
[00:40] design: are you RCN sales rep ?
[00:50] design: ?
[00:56] zagi @ RCN: yes
[00:56] zagi @ RCN: im a manager

So this is how it goes at RCN ...
You ask for their best rate for a managed (icq support included) 5Mbit server ... they give you a nice rate and you're happy.
They move your pages (very nice of them actually)
Then some problems pop up and you need support, off course we like our sever to work as needed. That's what support is for me thinks.

So then they pop up on ICQ and they just say that they can't give icq support anymore hmmm .... (ever heard anything like this?)

From there shit started ...

So don't act like an angel here ...

I have you on ICQ now, let's see if we can settle this ...

They sound very professional to me...

Some of you are really something, do you actually know what you talking about?

We have lots of servers on other locations dude ... the way they (RCN) act is very new to us.

RCN has always been great for me too. I have their 800 number on speed dial on my phone, whenever I call shit gets done right away. In my opinion RCN is a kickass host.

I hosted with RCN since 2003 and I have NEVER had a problem with them as you're stating that they were rude. I disagree that they were being rude, and I do think they were trying to be as professional as you allowed them to be, according to your ICQ message.

I WILL say this though...a few days ago I decided to move my sites to another company BECAUSE last week they decided to change my plan as well, and charge me a lot of extra fees, which they just all of a sudden tacked on. Now, once they found out I was moving...they called me last night and said they had removed the fees and had some problems with updating their stuff...so the plans got screwed up. If I had not paid 200.00 to move my sites already, I would have stayed with them, despite someones screw up. They've always been very nice to me on ICQ and pretty much took care of any issues I had right away. So all in all in 2 years I've had only one issue with them...and because of the way it was handled...I decided to move my sites. I felt it was unprofessional what they did, without warning me...but I also understand it was a mistake, but what's done is done.

If you don't know me, perhaps you heard about sites I run like: sunporno.com, two-lips.com, twilightsex.com and a number of others.

couple of weeks ago they added 6.50 to my account for going over my 10 meg limit in each email account for each of my 10 domains.....

when i looked.. i had like 10 kilobites worth of emails in each....

i messaged them and they said "oh sorry.. was some kind of error... and were like... we'll take it off of next months bill" ... obviously i was going to stick with them for longer then 1 month... but when you fuck up like that.. you refund it right away.... no matter what.. its like going into a pizza place... ordering food.. with 2 slices missing... and they are like... oh.... come back next time u buy a pizza.. we'll throw in the extra slices...

they also disabled my option to add ftp users to my account... and that caused a lot of headache because it delayed my web developement on one of my projects...
