fuck it.. anyone bounce their head to sleep?

...i dont give a fuck no more...

all my life i have banged my head on my pillow to goto sleep. when i was younger (between 1-10 years of age) i would bang my head and hum really loud to fall asleep.

but now, i still cant shake this shit. i always thought i was the only one but i decided to hit up google and found there are quite a few people who do this. some people said it went away, others are 47 and still do it... which gives me no hope.

i dont know why, but i cant fall asleep without bouncing my head on my pillow, and it bothers me that i do this. It bothers me because its kind of embarrasing. I do not want to one day be sleeping by a girl who i love and sit there boucing my head, it would not only annoy the fuck outta her sleep, it would kill me inside because i find it quite embarrasing.

has anyone else done this or still do? i have been searching all night to find if there is something out there to stop this but have failed, and now i am resorting to you guys, hoping that just maybe one of you had/has the same problem and might know what to do to stop it. please help, if you have any info on this feel more then welcome to share, i dont want this to go on for the rest of my life, but i cannot sleep any other way...

I bang my head to pantera, but i 'hump' when i am trying to sleep - yup, basically hump air. The humping is not a sexual thing, its just like "fidgeting" but i always do it before i sleep... when i was young it would take me hours of daydreaming before i slept. i dont remember if i humped then.

first of all, fuck anyone who doesnt want to understand you - when i have been in the occasion to be asked "what the fuck are you doing" i answer "thinking about your sister" or something to keep their minds busy.

you're just now making step one, seems to me, realizing you dont like it and want to do something about it - do more research, see sleep doctors, im sure its a nervous habit that can be broken

Here's an idea:

Get your hands on a little hormone called MELATONIN, drink down one pill (3mg) about 30 mins before going to bed. Then read a book or do something to keep yourself awake. Just try to stay awake, you'll fall asleep.

Otherwise, i find your situation rather comical

mikey, thank you for your post

xclusive, yeah, but its not even that they wont respect that, its i dont like it, i dont want to be a bother to my mate when she is trying to sleep (not that there is one now, but when the time comes)

it shakes the whole bed, especially being 175lbs, the bed is gunna move, it will bother the fuck out of them.

i found more info on it though, it does in fact have a name.

RHYTHMIC MOVEMENT DISORDER (RMD) also known as "jactatio capitis nocturna"

http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/rhythmove.html

What is Rhythmic Movement Disorder?

Rhythmic movement disorder is a group of stereotyped, repetitive movements involving large muscles. usually of the head and neck, which typically occur immediately before sleep onset and are sustained into light sleep.

Also known as jactatio capitis nocturna, headbanging, headrolling, bodyrocking, bodyrolling, rythmie du sommeil. The term rythmic movement disorder is preferred as different body areas may be involved in the movement activity.

What are the symptoms?

* Rythmic body movements occurring during drowsiness or sleep
* At least one of the following types of movement is present

o The head is forcibly moved in a back and forward direction - headbanging type
o The head is moved laterally while in a supine (lying on the back, face up) position - headrolling type
o The whole body is rocked while on the hands and knees - bodyrocking type
o The whole body is moved laterally while in a supine position - bodyrolling type

oh well... its just something that has been bothering me because i feel i should have out grown it by now, and i just fear i may never, which can result in problems in relationships, due to causing restless sleep to my partner..

but mikey, thank you very much man, it does mean alot that someone here is willing to share their story too.

I can't say I've ever banged my head against a pillow to get to sleep. I've been banging it against a wall this morning, though, but that's only because I've got jury duty today.

How do you fall asleep bouncing your head off a pillow? It seems like that would keep you up forever. The humming I understand. I do that sometimes.

If the head thing is voluntary then just don't do it. If it keeps you up for hours because your head isn't bouncing then just stay up until you're exhausted. After a couple weeks you should be able to get normal.

You just need to be strong and STOP. If it's involuntary and it starts as soon as you lay down without even thinking about it, you should probably visit a doctor.

it may have been voluntary at one point, but its been going on almost* every night since i was a baby, which turned it into my way of falling asleep, i believe it may have to do with i am never tired, so i would have to wear myself out, and to do so while laying down, i would bounce my head. im unsure, i dont think i do it while i sleep, its mainly before i goto bed, and it hasnt been everynight, it has cut down alot in the last few years, but i still just cant shake it.

i do sometimes wake up doing it though, but that has become rare.

its only when i lay on my chest though, obvious fix would be to sleep on my side (i cannot sleep on my back... dont know why) but the problem is i will just roll over on to my chest. i tried to sleep all sorts of ways, and i always wind back up on my chest. damn me

my pleasure - i dont consider it anything to be embarassed about - i dont mind it - but you do, so im quite confident you shouldnt stress over it, just check into how to break the habit. for one, excercise will make you tired as hell and fall asleep faster, but at first you may need to consciously tell yourself "ok - im not going to shake my head anymore"

its just a habit - if you want to break it, you will. most habits take about 2-3 weeks to get into or out of ...

p.s. - were neighbors! well, im in west palm ... how'd the hurricane treat you? i got blown out of my fucking house ...

Thank you for posting this link. My son does the same exact thing and for the longest time, me and my wife have been lost as to what was causing it. Again, thank you. I had the same outlook as you did. I thought it was something isolated. He also does the same thing when he is playing XBOX and in a tense situation.

once again, im very pleased that bringing this up could help someone else, makes me feel much better about it.

great link..

I've always either rubbed my feet together so they were in contact with the sheets or rocked my whole body when I was trying to go to sleep. Not as extreme as the head banging but annoying to my husband sometimes.

OMG that is funny, my ex boyfriend used to do that all the time! It used to drive me nuts.. I would be trying to sleep and all I could hear was bang, bang, bang, bang, bang on the pillow, and the bed would be shaking.

Glad to know somebody else does it too

PS I still loved him I highly doubt that this little thing would cause relationship problems, it doesn't last that long every night.
I did laugh at him though because for the longest time I couldn't figure out what the hell he was doing.

Sleep habits can be broken, just don't do them like others have suggested. I always slept on my stomach and could not fall asleep unless I was on my stomach. Well....then I got pregnant and sleeping on a stomach the size of a basketball just doesn't happen anymore...so I had a few sleepless nights but I adjusted. Now, I can't fall asleep on my stomach even if I tried.
