If someone brings me flowers or a gift on the first date, I run like hell. That's someone trying WAY too hard and making a first date into a production when all it is is people getting to know each other.

It's the third date when you do that stuff because if you can make it to the 3rd date, chances are you really like each other

And DON'T take a girl to the movies on a first date - again, you're supposed to be getting to know each other so sitting in a theater where you can't talk pretty much nullfiies that

Both replies are great additional advice - I was waiting for someone to say it too.

Also, KRL is married (I don't know about Dave or the others, or their life circumstances so this may actually have no bearing at all) but KRL being married shows that being a big gentlemen right away can lead to a long-term relationship; though for all I know KRL's been married for 8 months, and only knew the girl 2 months prior to that. ;)

Don't talk about yourself. If you absolutely have to talk about some accomplishment do it in a manner that she has to press you for the details and never make out like its a big deal (works esp well when it is a big deal).

Don't talk about past relationships.

If you are going to be the nice guy and be respectful and bring flowers etc, be careful not to fall into the trap of being the nice asexual guy. Those are the guys that chicks call to talk to when their MAN is being difficult. You can be the nice guy but at the same time communicate to her that you want to sex her and that you know wtf you are doing in that regards.

On first dates one of the best ways to communicate that is to establish touch in a non threatening way, early. Like touching their hands, brushing the hair off their faces, sitting close up and speaking close to them when it is loud with music etc.

Listen to what they tell you. Women will tell you what they want and how they want it, the key i think is to listen and ask the right questions that ask them to reveal themselves.

Having tatoos and piercings can also be a big help
