Worst thing about low carb diets.. you tend to eat the same few things over and over. Or at least I do.
Low carb is sort of a misnomer, and many of the diets, especially Atkins, over simplifies things. Carbs = bad, is an incredible oversimplification.

Really all you need to do is change the kinds of carbs you eat. Removing bleached flour, refined sugar, corn syrup and fried foods is enough of a change to make a world of difference.

Diet Coke isn't much better then regular Coke. The calories aren't your problem as much as the sweetener excites an insulin reaction.

Why, because it contains the word "diet"? That sounds stupid, but that's the common perception amongst society and it's simply bullshit. It's less worse then regular Coke, but it can still make you fat.

Caffine does not impact insulin, only sweet things and things that eventually convert into glucose incite an insulin reaction. Most artifical sweeteners qualify, except splenda.

Are you kidding? They'll gain weight on a diet that small. That might work for a woman, but for a man that's near starvation and the body will store everything it can get its hands on.

Let's start over, if you want to calorie count. Spend a week eating normally and count how many calories are in your normal diet. Divide that by 7 and you get your average caloric intake. Decrease that by 100. If you don't start losing weight, then decrease by another 100. Once you start losing weight, stay with that level.

To gain weight, I need about 3,000 calories. To lose weight, I need about 2,500 calories. I've found that when I get around 2,000 and below that I don't lose weight, because I'm gaining fat and losing muscle.

So start it now and 2 years later end it ;)

n' god damn, I read briefly through these posts and some of the diets you guys have mentioned are horrible. you guys CAN'T expect to lose weight by starving yourself or only eating 3 meals a day. you have to eat 5 TO 6 SMALL portioned meals a day, this'll raise your metabolism (which in turn burns more calories)! this is because our genetic foundation was based on humans who scavanged the land (we were meant to be ACTIVE people, not sedentary) and ate when they could.
Fuckin A! Thanks for the back up!

This guy was already in shape, he just got fat for some reason. Either an injury, he got carried away with his bulking phase, or some other such thing. When he went back to his regular life style of weight lifting and running triathalons, or whatever, the weight naturally came off. This happens all the time with diet "before/after" pics. You'll rarely find someone who wasn't already an athlete posing in these pics.

Bullshit. This is a bodybuilder pre-season and at contest weight. This guy took his before pictures at the peek of his bulking phase, and started his diet and cardio to shred for an upcoming show. You see changes like this in bodybuilders all the damn time. Lee Priest is a classic example of a fat ass in the off season, and a shredded beast in the contest season.

I work out everyday because I dont' get any excercise spending so much time on the computer. It was easy for me because I used to excercise and weight lift regularily actually, religiously before getting online for the sake of competitive sports (highschool/college).

If you've never worked out you'll find it EXTREMELY difficult but it's worth it in the long run. Take it slow in beginning, don't kill yourself. Your muscles are going to ache for days whether you take it light or hard.

The word diet doesn't mean jack shit.
The 'diet'coke we have here isn't even called 'diet' coke. Light mayo isn't really that light either.. no shit? I'm really not that stupid, don't talk to me like I am an uneducated guy who thinks having diet coke with my big mac meal is gonna make me thin

Oohh ahhh.. you know your nutrition shit, you think you're the only one? I *know* what I'm supposed to eat, but maybe I just don't have the intrest in watching everything I put in my mouth. counting fat/protein/carb ratios.

I'd rather enjoy food and be a fat slob, than eat celery and Brad Pitt body. That's just me. No need to patronize.

Also, what's with the 'fucking A' shit to our weight loss bet? I'm not trying to become mr.universum, and I'm quite sure eros isn't either.
There's no damn harm in betting which can lose more weight in 4 months. Money is a great bait to start weight loss especially for me, when I really have no motivation for health reasons like Eros seems to think he has.
I have no problems with my health (yet atleast). 4 months isn't exactly a 'fast' diet anyways.

You annoy me tremendously. I mean it. I'm sure you don't mean to, but you come out like you're talking to a bunch of idiots that don't know anything. I'm a fucking adult.

What's so funny?

I have low cholesterol, normal blood pressure, I can do sports, have sex etc..

Fat doesn't mean unhealthy by default you know. I know I have a higher risk of getting a stroke than you probably.. then again, I'm 25.. I don't think I'll get a stroke.

the part that i found funny was "like Eros seems to think he has". stated as if eros is a lost cause regardless lol.

Annnnd, you don't necessarily know that you won't get a stroke. A 23 year old high school teacher died of a stroke recently and he was around 5'7 250.

i'm not trying to impose any views on you... i believe to each his own. It just angers me to see people who WANT to lose weight, but resort to such stupid methods.

right and fat also means fat heart which as to work extra, not to mention carryng all that weight around. my boyfriend too has normal cholesterol, blood pressure, has sex and played tennis last night for 5 hours, but the doctor still told him to lose the weight because it's not good for the heart among other things.

No shit? Boohoo.. smoking's bad for you as well as drinking. Doctors recommend you'd stop both of those too...

oh definitely. if anyone who is overweight tries to fool themselves by thinking they can get away with it without paying some sort of physical price sooner or later, they're in for it.

Naturally. You pay for your actions sooner or later no matter what. People still smoke even though they know it causes cancer. People still drink even though it harms the liver. People eat fatty foods even though they make them fat. So I'm guilty, sue me.

We're going to die sooner or later anyways, I'd rather live to 50 and enjoy my life than to 80 and be miserable and worry about every single thing.

Now, losing weight is more like a challenge for me, to see if I can do it. It's not something I feel I *must* do in order to survive or feel better about myself. I have very high self-esteem as is, and I don't think that if I lose weight to normal standards anything in my life will change (except consumption of food most likely)

That being said. I hate fat people who try to convince everyone how they're normal and should be treated equally. I saw this program on bbc with fat chicks who were furious about how people treated them.

Tough luck. If you're fat, live with it.. or lose weigh.

well that's good... like i said, to each his own.

but have you ever really given it a shot? n' i don't mean by following some diet in a lame fitness magazine or some fad diet like Atkins or South Beach... a real fitness plan, which worked, and you stayed on it and were healthy, at normal weight, etc.. etc... ??

if you haven't, then how do you know you wouldn't be *as* happy, if not happier than you are now with yourself and your life in general?

because, a real fitness plan is not like a pair of handcuffs on you, restraining you from doing the things you want... granted, there are restraints from particular foods, but the foods you can consume can taste even better than all that junk food. and it's not something where you have to play such specifically close attention to what you put in your mouth.

otherwise, if you HAVE been there, then I can totally respect where you're coming from... but if you're just basing your opinion from all of the horrible diet stories ya hear about, then you should really give it a try.

i'm not trying to be some annoying asshole fitness buff fitness trainer ;) but being that significantly overweight really can reduce your lifespan, which i'm sure ya know.

2. An article in Utne Reader claims, "researchers believe that any kind of sweet taste signals body cells to store carbohydrates and fats, which in turn causes the body to crave more food" (Lamb 16).
Also, if you read the rest of the articles, these artificial sweeteners are like poison to your body. Really bad stuff.
