Underage Webmasters in Vegas.

What's your opinion on people under the age of 21 attending a convention in Vegas?

IMHO...

There are webmasters who are well over 21 that are not mature enough to handle this. However, underage drinking is always a problem and that opens the event sponsors and the venues up to legal problems. The majority of the problems that I have seen from those under 21 are isolated to people from the U.S. It would seem that the minors in our country are not advanced enough to know how to act appropriately. I have underage friends from Scotland who come to these things and they manage to maintain control and act like adults.

Putting the drinking issue aside?.Vegas is a gambling town with a 21 years of age requirement for that. Minors are not even permitted to stand and watch. With the sponsors stepping down their parties this year....This is going to leave fewer and fewer places for minors to hang out without forcing them into public places and increasing the risk of bad publicity.

Your thoughts?

God remember the days when the only concern was models being under 21 - now its webmasters - hate to think when Im buying a drink I have to ask a potential client for an ID scan!!!

Aaron, you are starting to sound like a cranky old man. Didn't you ever get drunk before you were 21?

Do you really think that someone else's actions will reflect poorly on YOU?

There are trouble makers at every show. Most of the ones I've ever seen are way over 21.

I've been drinking since I was 13, and I think drinking laws are bullshit. I'm more irresponsible, immature and wreckless at 21 than I ever was in highschool.

bullshit . . . the govt does not send anyone anywhereinvoluntarily. If they don't want to go to Iraq, they shouldn't have enlisted.

Rarely will they be sent to Vegas

I know it sucks when you are on the outside looking in... and you see all these grown adults making total asses of themselves and ruining a good thing for everyone... and you're standing there wondering why you're not allowed in just because you're not of age yet.

However, that being said... I don't know why webmastres can't have more dinners... more actual conventions that don't include drinking. You know? Events that everyone can attend regardless of age or drinking/partying habits.

It seems as if every single webmaster get together has to be a mind blowing party. After 13+ in a year, it starts getting kinda old for everyone, except for the under age webmasters who can't attend a single one.

For those having parties... BE CAREFUL... its bad enough you are responsible for adults that drink too much and cause harm... just imaging the trouble if a person under the legal drinking age is caught and rats you out.

Yea, it sucks... but I would card people at the door... just cover your ass as much as possible.

That is a sad and true statement, The drinking and gambling age should be reduced to 18. There are a hell of a lot of mature 18yr old individuals. The 21 age barrier does nothing really to make the person more mature, its just an artificial plateu some forward thinking polititians picked out

Yep.... totally agree. Alcohol can turn the most sensible people into idiots. So, I would like to make a suggestion... Don't serve alcohol at these parties... just serve joints... imagine... everyone would be so melow and peaceful and we would all get along.

But I guess that would be in a perfect world...

It's called being responsible and you are not one to preech to me about that.

Yes, I did get drunk as a minor...But I did it in the privacy of my own home or the homes of others. I never put anybodies business as risk.

I know you well Steve...You and I both know that you do not want the publicity of posting in this thread. I suggest you back off me and stick to the facts and the specfic question at hand. Your input is welcome but WHO IN THE BLOODY HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO QUESTION ME ABOUT THE USE OF ALCOHOL?

As for it reflecting poorly on me....If I were the one responsible for supplying it...Yes, I do believe it would reflect on me. I would be happy to post some specific examples of a sponsor (Guess who) that has a reputation for this sort of thing. Just because most people are too afraid to post about it on the boards does not mean it is not an issue.

Is this where I get another ICQ from you telling me to keep my mouth shut?

for me it goes like this:
18+ => Mature

i know many people (even 16 or 17) who got more sense of business and entrepreneurship than 50% of some of the morons around here.

a friends friend is 17, his father opened up a business for him until he turn 18 next year. He does more than 500k a year in sales on his non internet related biz and knows what he is doing.

not bad for a 17 year old if you ask me

so what do we learn...
its sad that a 20 y o guy can not legally drink or gamble in vegas
but hey - thats nothing to complain about
it's a law and you gotto live with this.

It is a issue and we are having serveral parties.

Many underage webmasters can handle themselfs and its not a problem. Others, regardless of there age seem to think conventions are a free ticket to act like an ass. This has nothing to do with age.. assholes are asshole regardless of the date they were born.

I hate to be checking Id's at our parties, but we will have someone doing it before drinks are served to them. What they do in htere own rooms is up to them and I dont give a rats ass, but we are not going to allow underage drinking at our events to the best of our ability.

I drank before I was 21 for sure.... but that was on me. I choose to drink and did not put anyone else in a bad legal postion by doing so.

I'm not going to jail because someone cant handle themselfs.

Well then those forward thinking eligible voters who are adults between 18 and 21 should find and elect a candidate who shares their viewpoint.

Yea there are some underage that couldn't control anything! Up until this July I was underage, but always controlled my self if I had any drinks any where, hell, I would be able to get server drinks at a place in SoCal with out a problem! But there are people that take advantage of being able to get drinks!

Yes, if alcohol is being served then having someone at the door to check ID is probably a good idea. It's not really that hard to flash your proof of age as you enter, and for those that do have a problem with it, you probably don't want them in the room anyway.

Why not treat it like any 18+ club would? Let 18-20 in with big marks-a-lot X's on their hands and wristbands for those 21+?

That way if something were to happen, at least you can show that you were proactive in detouring the underage from drinking.

Depends on the person... not saying he is wrong... not saying he is right... just saying you cannot always trust these models. Hey, I am local with LS, I have interviewed models with stories too... but until I see it first hand... that is all they are... stories.

Hey, I am not a real big fan of LS or steve... but right is right and unless they have actual proof.. then it is best not to make accusations (not sure the spelling) and not just heresay from a model(s).

i forsee several pages on this thread
Not likely from that reply. Steve is far too concerned with playing political games to get in over his head in this thread. Trust me...He is already kicking his ass for posting here.

Now...I will back off the Lightspeed thing at this point. The rest of you can ride that hores as much as you like.

Oh and Steve...I have owed you $181.00 for almost 2 years now. In Montreal last year you told me you wanted it in content. Rockhard and I discuss it when we see each other at the shows but he has yet to contact me to claim it. I have a lot of new stuff that I have not made available to the general public yet. Have him get ahold of me and you guys can have an early go at it.

You can get a pass to internext if your 18+... so yes I think that if youre 18+ you should be allowed to go.

That way if something were to happen, at least you can show that you were proactive in detouring the underage from drinking.
Better yet, the under 21 crowd could be corralled into a special roped-off section of the party, served diet pepsi, and have a big "L" put on their foreheads in magic marker.

Part of me thinks I'd rather hang out there! Probably a nicer crowd

Hypothetically speaking of course.
Aaron, 7512417. As for Steve, the dirt flows in on this guy daily without me even lifting a finger. You see, he rubs alot of people in this biz the wrong way, and has alot of skelatons. Of course, when it comes down to it, he only owns 50% of lightspeed, his wife owns the other half and does all the books;-)

who the fuck cares? worry about yourself and what you do. if you are a grown man and care about what a small group of 18/yo's do you obviously lead a very boring life.

as long as they arent running around acting like punks i dont think there is a reason to care one bit. omg they had a sip to drink, someone call JESUS and the ANGEL police!

@ whiny old men
